Portsmouth and West Ham are looking at him according to Tribal Football.. 5 million is being quoted.. Would be a great loss if he went..
We need to keep him, he will be quality next season. He will be as important as Ash was last season. I doubt Aidy will let him leave. Portsmouth and West Ham have made enquiries about Watford youngster Hameur Bouazza. (Daily Mirror)
It was also on the BBC rumours as being in the Daily Mirror today (not that that makes it any more reliable )
Yeh Tribal is not a reliable source. We cant keep getting rid of our best players, not really at a top price because we dont even invest back or if we do we dont get a suitable replacement. We should be selling the dead wood eg Mahon, Kabba etc
All those who would let him go have a think... Think if you'll ever see that money again! with the finances for the development (supposedly) boxed off the the money should be re-invested in the team..... but somehow I cant see that happening, I may be proved wrong when we splash the Ashley cash in the summer, but I dont think so. We should keep him, otherwise you'll see F*** all in return. Love to be proved wrong though..
I had a think - Hammer didn't keep us up, blows hot and cold, doesn' t always track back. A few years ago he was one of our brightest potential with his pace. He has had one decent season - £5 million would be a great price for someone people wanted out a year ago anyway. Murmured a year ago,"Let Swindon have him for 100k", "he hasn't made it now he never will, let him go", Ash 8 millon hammer 5 million Marlon 7 million Poo2 5 million Gav £2.50p ( joking Gav - ) £25 million transfer pool - knock £5 million out as safe keeping and non footie side. Leaves a £20 million budget for next season, plus say in reserve £10 million from sky revenue/parachute payments. In total we could lose 3 more big players but have a transfer fund of £30 million. Could £30 million buy us promotion and keep us up? or can Hammer, Marlon and Big Dan stay and get us promoted and then keep us up?
I think the most we would get is: Bouazza £3m King £3 Shittu £3 Young there was alot of hype regarding him, he is young, both footed, england under 21 etc thats why we got a good price. A one off for Watford.
The thing is - as we saw with Collins John - we may not be able to attract players nomatter what money we have - not without paying them silly wages. And you should write: 30 mio or Hammer, Danny, Marlon AND 8 mio - coz the Ash money we either way. But in my mind - we won't be able to attract players better than the 3 you mention for those positions. Keep them if we can and uy to strengthen elsewhere on the pitch.
If Aidy can be relied on in the transfer market with £30 million it sounds promising. Although having said that, we could end up with 60 Steve Kabbas!
Whilst I do not think we can attract better to join us, regardless of how much cash we have, it's not productive to have a player unhappy at the club. They do not perform to their potential and they cause unrest. We should have money left over and we should be getting players in first before selling on.
Thing is Paddy who would come to us? Truth is we already should have more than enough dosh to attract players of sufficient calibre for what we want to do. Bouazza may blow hot and cold but when he's on fire he was the only Watford player this season to put the fear of god in opposition defences and take the game to them.
Exactly...we can offer all the money in the world but are we actually attractive enough in terms of playing style, size of club etc for some of the top players people want us to get?
Hope we keep Bouazza but he isn't as vital as some people seem to suggest. On his day he is great but will he be good in the Championship where you get less space? Remember it was just over a year ago, when we were in the Championship, that we thought he'd never make it with us. Imo he looked better than he was because he was willing to take people on but his crossing isn't great, and i feel we can get an equally good league 1 winger (e.g someone like Kris Commons). Though in an ideal world he'd stay and we'd sign someone else anyway!
He had a decent end to the Championship season when he came back from Swindon - only interrupted by a dislocated shoulder.
Selling Bouazza now, even for £5M, would be completely meaningless. He has just signed a new contract to 2010. This season he's been one of our best players, he's only 21 years old and our top goalscorer. The fact that he can play equally good on left wing and up front makes him even more valuable. So, unless he really wants to leave and gets unhappy (which I don't think will happen), DON'T SELL!
A good player, but if we were offered £5m!!! arty1: arty1: arty1: I'd be with paddy, and I'd even add bells to the gift wrapping!!!
It's all about the money for some people. So, let's sell King, Bouazza, Shittu, Priskin, Carlisle & Rinaldi for £20M
True but we are a selling club, and although i wouldn't sell those players, they have (with the exception of Rinaldi) cost us under £5 million and it would be good buisness (even if you are only joking). We could also sign equally unproven players for £5 million and be left with £10 million profit, but hopefully we are in a position where we can hold onto our good players and sign slightly more established names!
What's the point in all this profit if all it is used for is to tide us by til the next time we somehow get promoted? I agreed with selling Ash because the price was obscene and by selling him we now have the financial basis to reject bids for others. No one player makes a team and I genuinely feel selling him safeguarded others. But if go and sell everyone it'll be pointless. Absolutely 100% pointless.
5 Mill for Bouazza..... if the money went to the transfer kitty then brilliant, sell him and bring in another 2 or 3 quality players with the money.
Since when did you get 2 or 3 quality players for £5M ? Selling Bouazza would be a horrible, horrible, mistake.
We already have a massive transfer kitty... we just CANT sell our best players. People have banged on about Reading having this settled club with players that have played with each other for more than three years. AIDYS EVEN MENTIONED THAT MORE IMPORTANTLY. Selling our best players sticks us right back to square one. Hamaur stays end of... we've no one else willing to take on players in like him, tommy trys bless him but in case you lot havent noticed, we've lost Ash, Maccas as good as gone too and losing Boozer would seriously weaken the wings.
Got to agree with KJ. What sort of message would it send out to other players (and the club and oens we might want to buy) and the fans if the board decide to sell our best young player for no great reason? A lack of promotion ambition for sure. We won't get some silly offer like for Young either which the board can make an excuse for.
KJ - this debate is based on rumours of Marlon wants to play premeirship footie and so does Big Dan and the rumour of the two clubs looking at Hammer. So be it - if these players and clubs can find each other and we get silly dosh it won't be the end of the world. We could buy HH back for £500k and paint him black and call him Luther ( thats Marlons place sorted). Big Dan we can spend £5,000 on 500 top quality bricks and some solid cement - thats Dan replaced and Hammer - we can buy Macthemuff from palsarse for a few quid and let them have Macca and Kabba as well. Squad sorted. bar a goalie to keep Rich company and possibly a left back as cover, but I'd give young Parkes a chance next season.
I agree with those who say selling our assets is a short term solution and would be a mistake. We should have enough money now to strengthen our squad and build on what we have, not asset strip. We struggled to attract players of quality when we were a Premiership club, so how would we attract anything other than a couple of merceneries, with a pocket full of cash, weakened squad and a fire sale mentality. We may be able to bring in a fortune in transfer fees, but we will never see that reinvested into playing personnell. It takes a great deal of work and some trial and error to find really good players (just look at some of our recent transfer dealings). We already are short of 4 or 5 of sufficient quality to compete at the level we wnat to, so why get rid of some of our best players unless we really have to.
