after an absence of 15 months from live poker and indeed very little poker, went to a live tournie two weds ago, met me brother - didn't do great knocked out after the break was pretty rusty. Should have made one call but folded to a very big bet pre break, but did the same to the same chap after the break and got him to fold but that was really that. Wednesday just gone -43 runners - came 6th and net profit of £70 - lost in an attempt to steal blinds worth 24k with ah 7h... chip leader thought for a little while and called with pocket 6's flop 10, a, 6 turn and river no good out. I love poker but have to be in the right mood to play. If I've had a bad day or am a bit tired, I always do badly. However, if I'm chilled out, something on the TV, (online poker only), and the mood is right I always tend to get down to the last few, (30 player tournies). What I'd like to know is, in live play, how do you manage the long bouts of no action between getting a playable hand? Do you watch other players for weaknesses, look for a steal, listen to music, have a chat or what? I'm finding I play turbo poker more and more as I simply get bored with the longer games and then do something silly because of need to play.
fink its more each to their own at live tournies - some players just don't shut the feck up, some listen to their music, some sit in total concentration with a stone wall fix, some make idol chit chat, watch the footie or whatever on the box, some booze a little - the time passes though - can't stand online poker - i get bored so so quickly and even more frustarting in a feww hundred toournie and doing well the feckin site disconnects or such like ( didn'tgot good connection). The fing about live tournies is the characters involved -you get some real gems of c...unts, absolute hilarious. OldManRay could tell you lots of Stories about live tournies and great stories too. He's the resident poker expert imo and his wise words, should always be heeded. Taught me quite a bit i must say from the old poker thread on here.
