Lots of Watford Twitter (ie random fans) now tweeting/celebrating as if it’s all but confirmed. But Nico Schira is one of the least reputable sources on Twitter so all seems wildly premature to me.
Pretty sure this is the same guy that said Penaranda was going on loan somewhere but then went to a totally different club. Or maybe Penaranda was going to be a main stay tab Watford last season, then went on loan. Something like that anyway.
Saw the Q-Tips, the quiffs (WBGS Band) and the Cure at Cassio college in 1979 I think... Fantastic gig, well the Cure were
According to The Wobby, AY appears to be back tracking on his previous burning desire to come home to Watford. He is now saying it is 50/50 whether he stays at Inter or moves to Watford, but reading between the lines his preferred choice would be Inter if they offer him another year. He was initially saying something like he would walk back to England to play for Watford again, but now that original enthusiasm appears to be waning. Furthermore according to our very own Markoa in the post above this, Inter Miami, David Beckham's American outfit are showing interest in him too. If all of this is true and he does indeed end up not coming back to us, I will not only be disappointed that he didn't come home, but I will be disappointed in him personally as well.
Hopefully we’ve learned from our last stay in the PL that we should be only be signing players who want to play for Watford. I’m not saying it will be anyone’s dream move, or that they’ll all plan on retiring here, but they need to join with a desire to work hard and show their talent. If Young doesn’t join us after all, it’s because he wasn’t as keen on playing for us as he pretended and therefore would be no great loss. No passengers.
Disappointed in him personally? Why? Everyone has the right to choose what they want to do in life. Even more so a footballer reaching the last years of his career! If he wants to spend the last year or two in Miami, earning a good wage and not stressing too much about keeping a club like ours in the PL, then good luck to him! I’d much rather he joined us of course but it’s a bit much to go further than that! The guy doesn’t owe us anything. We profited very well financially out of him at the time, and he gave us some great memories along the way. He doesn’t have to come back!
In a way, talking about coming back here for the last few weeks is quite a shrewd way of telling the world he’s on the market. Inter won’t be insulted as we’re not a threat to them and he has history here. So no bridges burned there. And meantime he’s making it clear he’s open to a move.
Personally I’d rather we sign him than not, but he is ancient and there can come a point in their thirties, in any players career (regardless of how well they’ve been playing up to that point) when their ability suddenly drops off a cliff. We’ve seen it happen plenty of times with our own players. So it’s one of those where I wouldn’t be too unhappy either way if he signs or not.
Ancient???? If a player looks after themselves they can still be decent at 40, Sherringham and Giggs proved that.
Those are very much the exceptions rather than the rules though aren’t they? He’ll be 36 when the season kicks off which in footballer terms is indeed ancient. Contrary to the likes of Sheringham, Giggs etc, if I were to list all the players who retired before 36, or had dropped out of the top level by 36, then it would be a very, very, very, very, very long list, wouldn’t it?
I agree he has the right to choose another club, but the way he was talking just a short time ago about wanting to come back and play for us even if it was in The Championship, had got my hopes up and I would imagine the hopes of a lot of other Hornets too. Therefore if he now chooses not to come back I think I have the right to be disappointed in him personally for getting our hopes up and then letting us down, that is of course if he indeed does choose not to return to us, but hopefully he will not let us down and be with us next season
If he comes back to play for us of course I will clap, but if it is for another team it will be a boo from me.
I played Joely Richardson at Temple Fortune. Extraordinary eyes. Paul and Stacey Young used to live at Ashendene, off White Stubbs Lane in Broxbourne.
Gino D'Acampo broke into Paul Young's house and stole loads of stuff, including irreplaceable recordings of his late wife's voice. What is it about the name Gino and pure evil?
I agree, but Young looks to be one of those players that has looked after himself and still has a couple of good seasons in him.
I worked as an extra for several years until relatively recently and sometimes you'd have featured roles - no dialogue, though, sadly - the character and his existence is part of a joke in the opening sequence of the first episode. I had to fight quite hard to get them not to cut my at the time mid-length hair into a mullet...
