I maintain he'd be a short sighted, panic buy. Being a great professional is all well and good but he isn't as good as he once was, he doesn't have the pace he once had and he is very much in the twilight of his career at 32. If he's going to walk away from £100k or so a week at Man Utd then it's going to be for a long contract on lesser wages. We do not need to be lumbered with a 34 year old, £40k per week Ashley Young in a couple of seasons time.

Just as well or he'd never leave Man U for Watford. He's still better than what we've got.

Not saying much when "what we've got" is effectively nothing.

Further to my last post (why can't I edit?) - I never suggested it would be a good signing, just simply that there's no way he'd be on anywhere near 110k a week if he joined us.

On a 2yr deal at affordable wages or a loan where his wages are supplemented by Man Utd, this would be a great signing IMO. Yes, he may be 32 but he's the type of player who always looks like he would look after his fitness. Plus he can play both sides, has played further back too at times so isn't a shirker defensively. And if he came, being a local boy an ex player, there's an affinity with him to try and invest in th club again as opposed to someone similar who may be coming for a last payday. I'm not blinded by him being an ex-WFC player one bit, I'd be happy by what he offers and the fact he has played at a consistently higher level ever since leaving us.

I would take him. Not sure we're worried about, we can afford to pay high wages on a few players. Young would provide quality balls from both flanks, and score a few goals himself. I doubt we will get better.

Bloody hell Nath, do you like anything?
Experienced Premier League player who crosses a ball as well as anybody. An upgrade on what we have and English. If on loan we would
Pay a percentage of wages, if perm he would take a drop.

I would happily take him back if we could fit him in or around our existing wage structure, otherwise the long term risk is probably too great due to his age.

This deal could happen if there is a sell on clause, I am also pretty sure I read previously his family are in Herts, so this adds up on more than one level.

I like the fact even more he is an ex player & see that as an added bonus, it adds value knowing what we know about him & having previous links to the club is a good thing.

I've explained clearly why I don't think he'd be as good a signing as others do.

There have been plenty of players we've been linked with that I'd be happy to see sign, Lennon ahead of Young being one of them, as covered in that thread.

23 appearances last year, 26 appearances the season before.

I don't mind you being negative which you nearly always are, as sometimes it's needed to balance things out on here. But spouting bull**it just to suit your constant need to whine is plain annoying.

    Ashley Young is a:

    Premier League experienced
    International experienced
    Homegrown
    Local lad
    Versatile
A winger (a position in which you say we need upgrading because you DESPISE Amrabat)
    A winner

And by Mourinho's own admission, useful to a Manchester United team with ambitions WAY beyond ours yet somehow he's not good enough for you?

There you go again, just proving yourself to be a moaner. Lennon has played less games than Young over the last two years, for a ******* team yet you'd rather sign him despite not wanting Young as he's hardly played?

    Baffling mate.

Or we could just pay him within our wage structure and give him a signing on fee for the difference. For some reason that's less.

    IT'S BREAKING NEW GROUND!

If so then you're an absolute nutcase.

Even though Young is 32 he still has decent pace and because of his slight frame should have a slightly longer career than most players - he's much more of a Giggs than a Rooney. Plus the quality of his deliveries in the final third will still be better than anyone in our squad bar Pereyra.

It's not less. I'm not saying it's right to do this but it's a way of getting a transfer done without p*s*ing off the rest of the squad. We do it. Other clubs do it.

I'm sorry, what relevance does Lennon playing for a "*******" team have? Overall in the Premier League he's been more productive than Young over the past two seasons, which is surely actually more impressive when playing for a "*******" team?

Admittedly I originally only looked at league appearances, he has played more than I realised when including European and cup competitions, but I stand by my other points. He's already 32, he's on a huge wage at Man Utd, he's not as quick as he used to be, and I don't believe he's what we need.

That's my opinion, you're free to disagree with it, but as usual opposing opinion to the general consensus simply aren't tolerated at all on here. Yawn.

I think you just have an aggressive writing style which comes across as 'I'm right, end of', intentionally or otherwise, which is leads people to correct your 'facts'. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, if we all felt the same life would be dull and this forum would be a load of people agreeing with each other. That would be very dull and we would lose the hilarious attempts at put downs that I enjoy so much.

As I said early in the thread I think he would be a good signing, short term but better than what we have and still a good player, and I think he could add great PL experience to a number of the youngsters we have signed. Money is my concern, whilst I'm sure he still has WFC in his heart he probably doesn't in his wallet. Ronny Rosenthal of yesteryear (bit of a stretch).

    My opinion, no facts involved.

  20. Thanks mate. In the spirit of your own reply, and with no malice or offence intended, I think you are a total nobend. Though your opinion is entirely valid.

where do people pluck these wage figures from ? its all guess work

Is he better than we have - Yes
He can play 1 of 3 up front, Wide left, left wing back.
He can take free kicks, adds pace and can carry the ball up the field and take pressure off of the defence.

I would say its very very unlikely that we would sign him on anymore than a 2 year contract for a nominal amount though

I'm sorry but what is all this nonsense being spouted on here about wage structure and Deeney's made-up highest earner clause? Is there any reliable evidence to support the wild notion that has somehow become fact on here that he has a highest-earner clause? Do we actually know with certainty the wages of a single Watford player? Can you point me to a real source?

It seems to me that we don't know a single player's wage bill and nor should we, because if we know a player's wages then so does the rest of the squad, which is extremely unhealthy for a dressing room. And if a player demands a wage increase because he wants to earn more than everyone else then they deserve an immediate release from their contract, regardless of who it is.

Agreed, in real life you generally have to be desperate to accept a best nations clause. This is football which is not the real word but as a 'progressive' team surely we would be mad to do so in the expectation that we will gradually sign better players as we go.

Only good thing that has happened recently is that Deeney's b*llox are on the mend!

Do we not have youth in our squad to bring in rather than another aged journeyman? I seem to remember some promising debuts last season.

I want no winger until we have at least a striker. What is point of Richarlison and Young crossing the ball to statues in the box. May as well not have a winger without strikers

Decent wingers score goals as well as create them. Even our "statue" strikers might score one or two if we have some half decent balls going into the box rather than the crap our wide players served up last season.

A few goals maybe but half the problem last year was our strikers wanted crosses on a sixpence. They need to move towards the ball and expecting it to land on their "ducking" heads.

Sorry - I get frustrated. I do not remember a game last year when I thought the opposition had such an immobile front line

  34. NathWFC

I think the problem was with both the wingers and the strikers. Our final ball/crossing wasn't good enough and neither was the movement of our strikers. We need to address both urgently.

Spot on. I find it bizarre when people seem to solely blame the strikers when they can hardly be blamed for not getting on the end of ball which is fired in miles above or behind them.
