Reports coming from Watford indicate that Plymouth Argyle are interested in taking young striker Moses Ashikodi on-loan.

Argyle manager Ian Holloway is supposedly keen to take Ashikodi on trial to prove his fitness before committing to a season-long loan.

The 20-year old striker, who celebrates his birthday today, joined Watford from Rangers for a nominal fee in January and made two substitute appearances in the Premiership for the Hornets last season.

Ashikodi has also made one appearance from the bench in the third round of the FA Cup for Watford, scoring against Stockport in a 4-1 win.

The 5-foot 10-inch tall striker was born in Nigeria but has represented England's youth teams in several different age groups.

Ashikodi started his career at Millwall where he became the youngest player to make the first team, making his debut at just 15 years of age.

However, Ashikodi's Millwall career turned sour when he reportedly threatened a team-mate with a knife during an incident at the training ground.
Ashikodi subsequently left Millwall and joined West Ham United.

Despite scoring regularly for the Hammers' reserve and youth teams Ashikodi could not break into the first team and moved to Gillingham on-loan, making 4 appearances.

In January 2006 West Ham released Ashikodi and he was snapped up by Glasgow Rangers but only made 1 substitute appearance in 12 months at Ibrox before moving to Watford.

After his three substitute appearances for Watford last season Ashikodi moved to Bradford City on-loan in March and scored two goals in 8 games.
Ashikodi's loan spell was cut short in April after he broke his leg playing against Brighton.

The Plymouth Vital Opinion: If this story coming out of Watford is true then it highlights the market that Argyle manager Ian Holloway is forced to operate in.

Ashikodi is only 20 and has had six clubs so far in his short career. Argyle already have similar young strikers with potential like Cherno Samba, Ashley Barnes and Reuben Reid so there doesn't seem the need to borrow young strikers from other clubs.

There's also Ashikodi's fitness to consider after breaking his leg just two months ago.

Will Argyle be Ashikodi's seventh club?

Nobody will buy a player with a broken leg.

Forgot they have the championship manager legend Samba at Plymouth, he would know Ashikodi from Millwall days when they were both hot prospects. I feel a loan to a league 1 side would be better as he would be guananteed more games there (Southend as part of possible Eastwood deal? has been mentioned). Can't see him being first choice at Plymouth, could just be a wasted year of his career, he needs to start playing regular first team football like he was doing at Bradford.

If Holloway buys a player with little first team football and a broken leg I will eat my pants.
