People seriously need to get a grip. The young boy has been handed a 3 year deal at Villa and has already featured in games this season. He had a good loan spell with us and settled in well. He may not get 20 goals but I guarantee the next 60 shots we have, we will convert 15-20 of them. That's because this boy will chip in with a goal or two, an assist and his movement and work rate is deadly. Great signing Dyche, need another though in the midfield area. Win on Sunday PLEASE!! COYH!
Get in. Happy with this. Yes it's only until January but who's to say it wont get extended? He'll slot straight into the team and was a well liked person amongst the squad during his time with us last season. Hopefully he'll start up front with Sordell against Birmingham on Sunday. http://www.watfordfc.com/page/NewsDetail/0,,10400~2432656,00.html "WATFORD have bolstered their attacking options today by the return on loan of Aston Villa striker Andi Weimann. The Villa forward - who scored four goals from 10 starts (and nine sub appearances) for the Golden Boys last term - returns to Vicarage Road on loan until early January. Having tasted first-team action at Villa Park last season, an ankle ligament injury marred his Premier League progress just as he'd been involved in Villa's first top-flight game of the season. However Weimann has already been involved under new manager Alex McLeish when he came off the bench during a 2-0 Carling Cup defeat of Hereford United this week. The forward represented Austria at the Under-20 World Cup during pre-season, and has now taken the chance to once again further his first-team experience by rejoining Watford. Andi Weimann will wear squad number 18 for the Hornets and has signed in time to be involved in Sunday's clash against Villa's arch-rivals Birmingham City."
I think we need a creative midifelder, if only McGinn was back we'd be fine imo. Sordell ST with Wiemann behind him is fine, with Deeney and Iwelumo there as well.
Sordell doesn't put in the same work rate as DG did. Weimann is more like DG in his work rate. DG was a great player because he played for the team and not himself.
The Messiah returns, The answer to all our problems... :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: ... We hope. (On a serious note, happy with this, however i'd still like us to go for someone in the mould of Cody MacDonald or ALF, on a permanent deal).
Happy with that, another good option. Rotherham rejected an offer yesterday for ALF, not sure by who just said un-named Championship team
Happy with this, I think he was a very good player for us last season. Also chases down every lost cause which is good. Still worried that he wasn't that prolific for us but hopefully him and Sordell will step up this year.
Not a great goal scorer, hard worker yes but not what we were after. If we have had to rely on what we had before rather than Ross Wilson finding targets off his contact list then its a worry for the future
This. He's not the answer to our lack of goals. A good player, an asset to the team, I agree. We still need a proper goal scorer. Edit: Hopefully Dyche will also stop this crappy chipping the ball to the forwards now we've signed another midget.
Exactly my thoughts. It's not that I'm disappointed as such, he's a good player, but I just hope that he's not the only striker we bring in because he's definitely not the goalscorer/poacher we need.
I do think this is a good signing. Hopefully we'll be able to extend it, come January! The main problem Weimann encountered last season was that he was playing alongside DG, whom is too similar to Weimann! They both made the same runs, and neither had a very good understanding. The reason i'm happy with him re-signing for us, albeit on loan, is that he'll link up well with Sordell. Weimann is a clever player, his movement is excellent, and he'll score more than he'll miss. We don't know if he's an out-and-out striker, because he was playing in the wrong system under Manky! Manky was too short-sighted to see this, he dropped Marv, and our form dipped rapidly! I bet he scores on Sunday.
I recall one game where it worked brilliantly and set up a goal, think it might have been Derby at home or away but can't remember, but I think that's probably it! Have to totally agree with Bubble, I've seen Weimann play for Villa reserves and he's actually very similar to DG, he wasn't able to show that last year because he was playing with him! In one reserve game against Chelsea he scored a cracking long range effort from an awkward angle, and then a real poaches effort at the far post. Villa rate him very highly for a reason, can't wait to see him again!
A Villa playing signing on loan and his first game back is against Blues..he is bound to score. A few quid on him to score is a must.
Sheffield United away last year it lead to Sordell's goal apart from that i can't remember it working!
Glad we have managed to get him again, and that at least gives Dyche some breathing space until January, when the headaches will surface again. I've been banging on about getting him back all summer, and he'll be a good player for us over the next 5 months. Hopefully Dyche will also get a permanent deal done before Weds, but it looks like we've missed the boat as Bassini did not allow enough money to be released until now. You snooze you lose......another obvious lesson that has needed to be learnt.
Lol @ the transcript of his Q&A session. Someone asked, wait for it: what do you think of the pedestrianisation of norwich city centre?
its a great signing but its not going to fix the problem. whats going to happen in jan will we back to where we are now If he does really well for us they might want him back or another club might come in for him. I would be much happier if we sign a player not loan one
Are you ever happy though? I think Weimann is a nailed on cert to score against Brum, and will hit 9 goals by Jan, by which time we'll be comfortably mid table. However you (and a few others) will be mongering doom and gloom.
I'd say it is pretty likely that his loan will be extended unless something goes disastrously wrong in the four months he is here for. He isn't exactly the goal scorer we need but I feel he will be able to bring the best out in players like Sordell and set up goals as well as scoring a couple.
Do I know you? I'm not "mongering in doom and gloom", I'm happy with the signing of Weimann, however, I don't see him being the poacher/goalscorer that any idiot could see that we need and it worries me that if he does do well he could quite easily p*ss off back to Villa in January, completely destabilising us and massively disrupting our season like losing Mutch and Taylor did the same time last season. So for those reasons I'm not wetting my pants in excitement over it.
Very pleased at this signing. He won't be the same player as last year, he'll be better with more goals in him. Few of us would have had Aghbonlahor back after his loan, but these top young players improve in leaps and bounds. More likely to get a hatful than some league 2 hotshot.
Agreed, everyone seems to have forgotten that he's a young constantly improving player. He's been staying late in training practising finishing with Darren Bent too, Andi will get 15 goals if he stays here the whole season, mark my words. I think we'll sign another striker anyway.
you are so right ...its not fixing the problem if he does well villa might want him back or another club might want him
Quite happy with this signing I think. Like Moose says, he could well be a different player this season. He and Graham were strikers in a similar mould, and it never really works if you have two of the same playing together up front. I feel he could work very well with Sordell when given the chance. The only thing that concerns me is if he becomes our best player. During matches, that would be great, but if he has a cracking spell with us, then come January, bigger clubs might come in for him or dare I say it, Villa might want him back. Anyone remember what our team was like when Adam Johnson went back to 'Boro? We were absolutely shocking. Completely clueless on the pitch. Weimann is a temporary solution yes, and I think a good one at that, but we will need a permanent solution come january. We can't have the boy on loan forever.
