Well, since we had all these contracts lying around in preparation, we might as well use them for something.
Mmmmmmmmmm This worries me Cart horse and Angela are better than championship average but will get torn a new one in the top flight. We all know we are suspect at the back but good up front. Mmmmmmmmm Squad players only in the survival quest. Mmmmmmmmmust do better. Time is of the essence
9/10 times the top 6 tear everyone a new one, we only need to concern ourselves with the teams from 10th place down Carthorse and Angela with Prodl and (say) Hertaux should be adequate for the task
Early on, most of our defensive problems came from full-backs and by the end of the season we weren't really having defensive problems.
One way of distracting us all from not many making many new signings..just sign up all our existing players on longer deals!! Seriously though, good news. Had a great season and looking forward to big things from him this campaign.
Mmm, because they played in the Championship last season they couldn't possibly play in the PL. Cathcart will have suitors in the top half of the PL after next season if he can stay fit, he's mustard. If you can't at least see that he'd be good enough for the Prem then, I don't want to sound harsh, but you're clueless.
Personally I think it's important not to venerate the PL too too much. Yes, it's a very tough league. Yes, the standard is higher than we've been used to. Yes, the top teams have some of the best players in the world. But when all is said and done, it's still football..still eleven v eleven, same rules, same sized goals etc etc. We're not being promoted to some mythical league in the sky where none of our current players will be able to compete. Any of our current players who can do the basics right and consistently, such as Cathcart, should be more than capable of doing well next season against a higher standard of opponent. Equally, I'm sure our forwards will still get goals next season. Yes, it's a step up but in not so sure it's as big a step up as some fear.
As Brain Clough famously said: "God would have used A4 instead of grass if the game was played on paper"
And I think it was Charlie Austin who, when asked if he was confident of scoring goals in the PL after Qpr's promotion, said 'yes because the goals will be the same size!'
I remember talking to one of my girlfriend's family members and he said that if we didn't go up we wouldn't keep Cathcart as there were clubs interested. Not sure how he knew that tbh although they are from similar areas of NI but great news anyway!
Lots of quality new defenders coming to the club it seems but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Cathcart still plays in most games next season.
Some bloke on Twitter who knows someone in the Belfast press, has quoted Cathcart as saying... " Watford? Ive not sure Ive heard of them. Ive certainly not received any kind of offer from them whatsoever, let alone have I signed anything. I have no intention of leaving my current club Watford so why would I have signed a contract for this club you say are called ...Watford? " ....forum goes into meltdown
