http://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/football-star-in-ram-raid-terror-at-hampstead-home-9383630.html Look at the last line: Watford FC said: “Merkel is not with us now so it is nothing to do with us.” Seems like he is leaving then/has left. Disappointing as he would have been a good option as he has already had half a season to get used to the English game. Seems like it will be another summer of chopping and changing. Chances are he wanted to leave
I'm pretty shocked at that quote. It's not like commenting on David James and his bankruptcy. This is a guy that left us last week. I would take from this that he genuinely was one of the parties involved in the mutiny.
That is an awful bit of PR from the club basically saying I couldn't care less as he doesn't play for us. Possibly should have said "this is now in the hands of the police so we are unable to comment but Alexander Merkel is fine"
If he has left us then I must say I think that's quite disappointing. I felt like he was probably one of the better players at the club. All he needed was a bit of time & he could have developed into one of our starting midfielders for next season. Oh well.
Maybe we did say that and more, but an experienced or poor journalist only quoted a selection of the club's response after the club were asked what support they will be offering the player following the attack.
That is terrible. I am genuinely ashamed that was our response. It sounds like it could have been traumatic for the bloke.
I prefer to believe the Observer's take on it where the club said they don't comment on player's personal matters.
Whilst I have sympathy for anyone who is burgled what I found most disturbing about this story is that Alexander Merkel who isn't good enough to get into a pretty poor championship side is being paid enough to rent a house in Hampstead and drive a Maserati. Great players deserve all the rewards they can get. Absolute rubbish like Merkel should not.
Further details regarding this incident are starting to come through. The official site is now reporting that Merkel cut his toe in the scuffle.
Wasn't he with AC Milan and probably on a nice wage at Udinese. Not all footballers blow their money gambling and even the lesser paid footballers in League One/Two will have a nice car/house. Does seem a harsh comment at the bottom - caught somebody on a bad day I think.
All I can deduce from that quote, and the fact he was dropped altogether for the Huddersfield game, is that his time here ended sourly. Maybe that's because of the holiday issue, maybe something else. Or it's a misquote and total non story.
What a load of old women you lot are turning in to! ... since when does any company comment on an ex-employee's private life? BE MEN
Once again Nani has brought in a player who isn't up to the physical demands of this league Gavin Mahon would have fought them off
Another Fancy Dan foreigner not up to fighting off intruders. It's like Paolo Vernazza all over again.
What the **** has it got to do with you how he can afford such things ? You are a major ******* if that's the only thing you found disturbing.
Merkel is class and will settle at a bigger club than us ... it's how you use them that counts and we didn't
Completely agree. Showed enough for me to want him back next season. Not surprised by Meldrews comment
It has a lot to do with me because it appears to be a perfect example of why we have players who lack the hunger to die for the shirt in the Championship. If you want to worship and cheerlead such people then that's your prerogative. If you look at twitter you can see that others are also expressing the same opinion as myself. Who do you think YOU are? People have the right to criticize the club.
I'm actually with Meldrew on this one. I saw the Leicester team arriving at Vicarage Road in their Primark tracksuits sharing a Renault Megane. That's what we need.
