http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,1807_1834258,00.html "Boothroyd claimed some of his players "choked." He said: "We do not have the technical players, we do not have the physical players in some departments but we will have a go. That is what we have done and why we are in this brilliant league. "But today we have not competed, we let the occasion get to us. Some stopped working and started to choke. Too many of my players choked today. "We never believed. If you don't believe you have no chance. We are bottom of the league and the fans see my name and cheer my players. That is what they are like. "I expected a backlash [after Liverpool's 6-3 Carling Cup defeat by Arsenal]. I felt they were fragile and we needed to impose ourselves. But we let them off the hook. "
Where's the quote for that from? He's doesn't sound quite as harsh in the comments made in the teamtalk article.
He didn't look, or sound happy on sky. Not even Aidy could find positives which says it all about the performance. He also said some of the players had words with eachother. Also it sounded like the £8mil bid for Ash will be accepted, (though he said he'd talk to the board and player).
lol...we were rubbish, i don't even think we were that good...back 4 were very poor today, Macca was back to normal.....Then he brings the Goal Machine Hendo on.....hope i bump into jesus in Mcdonalds, i'll ask him for a miracle.....hope the pubs got plenty of beer tonight.
Please say he at least goes to Villa or Spurs- for Ash's sake as well as my wallet's! I've put money on him going to Spurs and Villa, but not West Ham and skybet don't take bets on transfers over the weekend.
Saying that his players choked and did not compete (which is how I would paraphrase it), is not the same as his players being rubbish and that he won't stand for it. Firstly, he says nothing along the lines of him "not standing for it" in the article, even though he probably thought it. Also, "not competing" and "choking" is a bit more of an understated, empathetic criticism of the players than just straight-out labelling them as "rubbish". His "rubbish" comment was said in a different, 3CR interview, so I guess this debate doesn't particularly matter (fun though).
perhaps it's not a good idea logging on this soon after the game. Perhaps i should have a very stiff drink first but that was sh1t today. Lucky not to of lost by 6 or 7. Sheffield united game was poor but today was so much worse. We can't pass, we panicked in defense we had no midfield no shape and please tell me why we buy 3 new players to help the fight from the drop and only one makes it to the bench.
I was surprised none of them started. However we could not expect Williamson,Hoskins or Moses to come in and save us. There were other areas of concern as well today.
I am getting tired of all the BS on why we lose week in week out, when will the man at the helm stand up and take some responsibility?
His local radio comments are normally more frank than the nationals: Yes afanof was quite right Aidy said those exact words right at the end of his 3CR interview with Simon Oxley - just before that comment Oxley said to Aidy `I know you and you won`t put up with that sort of performance and Aidy said `your right`. He also said `did you throw the teacups around?` & Aidy said there was no point he just told the players calmly that he was giving each of them a DVD of the game (which he was going to watch twice over the weekend) and wanted an individual report from each on their performance - if he didn`t get the right answers he would be dealing with those concerned`. Talks tough doesn`t he?
You mean Aidy? What do you expect him to say...."its all my fault the players did not try and play as I would like"? Her was not happy and accepeted it was a bad performance rather than hiding behind excuses like some managers.
Interesting method of dealing with it. We need to keep the faith with Aidy, no one at all could do things any better than he is for us at the moment. He will try everything to get us a victory. If we don't win it is because the players are (unfortunately) just not good enough, and thats why they have to try that much harder and why he will act tough on that performance. Liverpool's tactics today were probably not what he expected, and although i thought we could have won today, they are a quality side (as their recent league - not cup record suggests).
From the Watford site: Two goals from Peter Crouch and one from Craig Bellamy condemned the Hornets to their first defeat of 2007, but it was more the manner of the performance that irked a downbeat Boothroyd. "It was unacceptable and I have to say that our supporters are quite within their rights to express their disappointment tonight, they pay good money to come and watch their side and they don't deserve a response such as they got from the players. "There will be a period of reflection tonight and I've told the players to go away and look at the DVD and take a look at themselves. "There has been a reaction in the dressing room and the players, between themselves, have spoken up and dug one another out on a few issues. People here have to be accountable. "We were not the Watford side that I know and I can't identify with that today." The manager was able to draw few positives from today's display, but was at pains to point out that Watford's fate won't just rest on a result against top-tier opposition. "The good thing about today is that we weren't expected to beat Liverpool. They're a top four team and our season won't rest on results against those top sides. "The irritating thing is that the last time we played a top side, Arsenal, it took a wonderful goal from Robin Van Persie to beat us. "But, we've got to score more goals as again it's been another nil. We need to make sure that when we get the chances we take them and we didn't do that today." On the subject of Ashley Young and the continuing speculation over his future Boothroyd moved to confirm that the club has fielded a renewed bid for his services from an unnamed Premiership side. "It's £8 million now for Ashley Young. The bid came in yesterday and I haven't had chance to sit down with the Chairman and Chief Executive, because I wanted to focus on the game. It's on the table and that's as much as I can tell you. "I think Ashley has been very focussed, I have kept him informed all along and we have chats where if he wants to get anything off his chest he tells me and I have the same relationship with him as the rest of my players. "His performances are a total credit and he's mentally very focussed which, if anything, puts his value up even more. A lot of young kids at 21 might not be able to cope with what he has had to cope with. Big valuations don't faze him and that's very, very important." Sounds a bit like `family at war! Why? He did not say we 'were unlucky and will stay up etc' Sounded quite angry if I am honest compared to usual. It is up to Betty to pick the players up and motivate them for the Villa game. He is a good man-manager and clearly thinks very highly of himself but I do fear its a lack of experience that will cost us
What are you on SuperHorns? He got it wrong today big time, pity he doesn't admit it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they don't admit it to Aidy after having done their homework, then they're going to be given some proper hairdryer treatment from the sounds of it.
