You are right, it was fantastic! Pipian Colorado, slightly nutty taste with some squash and potato on chicken.

    Celebrating the US goal:

This was the light barrage just after the first Mexican goal.

During the fight on the field (which mysteriously involved no discipline for the instigator) the Mexico fans started throwing things again and didn't stop until the US fans were evacuated in the 82'.

Wanna know what was in those cups?

Are you sure? It's not what you think, even if you are thinking the worst.

i'm going to new york this september for a little while. as i understand it, the trip from the south west to the north east is only 20 minutes by car so you should pop by and i'll by you a beer

I had to negotiate hard but in the end but it took 2 very romantic evenings, a nice dinner and a movie, and 8 hours of manual labor plus a myriad of other various and sundry promises to get my leave to fly to Salt Lake City to see the US beat El Salvador in the very very worst officiated match I have ever seen.

SLC is so clean it's freaky.

Being at the England game at Wembley yesterday I noticed massive support for Beckham every time he warmed up, and that was by the section of hard core England fans. I think there's a definate backlash of English support after the hard time he's had over there Fitz. It was certainly the most cheering I've seen for him in recent times.

    Interesting...
I am glad that he is playing with England, and have always known him to be the kind of character that plays with more heart than the typical English player of today.

I just don't want him to play part time for the Galaxy anymore, and that's the point of what most thinking US fans of soccer want. Of course there are always some around trying to exploit his vulnerable and frankly dimwitted nature for their own attention, but I can't imagine that to be a new phenomenon.

charliesays, it is very unlikely that I'd get to 2010, unfortunately. US employers are not very keen to let you take long stretches off, and no one here cares to understand about international soccer. I'd burn nearly 2 days coming and 2 days going, so four days without even seeing a match...Not to mention the spousal factor, which is rather severe at this point.

I'll probably save up for Brazil.

It's gettin' hectic...there may be a fight for the US to get out of the 4th place spot which has to go into a playoff with the CONMEBOL 4th place finisher for the final spot in South Africa:

Flying in at the last minute with no foreplanning whatsoever had virtually no drawbacks. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Final score: USA 2-1 El Salvador
    Worst officiated game ever...

Me at the close of the game at the Off Campus Pub.

This was both the worst and the best game watching experience ever.

It was like watching one of those community televisions in a small town in Africa, Asia, or South America.

Where did you see it, sonofben?

Only a douchebag or another Watford supporter would make fun of you for being a Watford fan.

Well yet to find an other Watford supporter.. Closest i have gotten is a Leeds fan at the Chelesa AC Milan game..

It's just been announced here that the US will come to Denmark to play on November 18th. Should be a good run-out for both sides, though I can't really see the point of Int. friendlies in November.

Hadn't heard that yet. In LA, we always get a Scandinavian team to play the USA in a friendly in January at the Home Depot Center. No explanation as to why other than someone wants to get out of the cold for a run in the sun...

    Update:

    Davies Accident Update
USA national team forward Charlie Davies suffered a lacerated bladder, fractures to the tibia and femur in his right leg, facial fractures and a left elbow fracture in the one-car accident that killed a female passenger early Tuesday morning.

He will be hospitalized at least a week and additional operations will be required.

"Injuries of this nature usually require a recovery period of six to 12 months and extensive rehabilitation," team doctor Dan Kalbac said. "Due to Charlie's fitness level, his prognosis for recovery and his ability to resume high-level competition is substantially improved."

    Automatic qualification is over.

    Today's games:
    USA 2 - 2 Costa Rica
    T&T 2 - 2 Mexico
    El Salvador 0 - 1 Honduras

The USA/Tico's game was dreadful for a long time. USA missed three clear chances in the first 10 minutes, and then Costa Rican Brian Ruiz scored two wonderful goals 3 minutes apart early in the 1st half to bring down a stunned home team already reeling from the accident Charlie Davies went through.

USA got a goal in the middle of the 2nd, but then Oguchi Onyewu went out after the last substitution had been made with some kind of knee problem...it looked like a blown ACL. Very bad news. The Costa Rican coach and then his assistant got red cards for no particular reason putting more time tacked onto the end for stoppage. Finally 10 man USA got the equalizer with about 20 seconds left to play, and then the whistle blew.

Mexico drew with T&T preventing them from leap frogging the USA, thank god. This was the supposedly 'easy' game for Mexico against a limp T&T, but they choked...terrible team.

The most dramatic result in the end is that the tie with the USA dropped Costa Rica out of third place and the last automatic berth in the World Cup finals and into fourth, as Honduras beat El Salvador.

Now Costa Rica must play the 5th place CONMEBOL team to see who goes to South Africa...bummer for them, because those S. American teams are tough...

Oguchi Onyewu is expected to miss about 3-4 months with a torn tendon in his knee. If Jay could learn how to put his contact in this would be his time to step up again..
