It does raise a question mark over just how much Dyche is paid if his son has that in his piggy bank...
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/tra...tml?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed I know its only the Mirror and you can't trust any papers these days but it would appear that we're trying to get Aidy on a longer contract. Presumably so we can demand more money for him even if he doesn't go this window?
Wow, the Mirror don't like us do they ? typical lazy cheap shot space filling journolisum. All they have done is copied something off ceefax and added something to it. £750 plus £1.2 million in add on's over 3 years was never ever going to be enough and Newcstle knew that. The press love to make something like this sound like a bitter fued between the clubs. No doubt the real racts are that Dyche has already spoken to Pardew personally, but thats not good press though is it !
Unfortunately this is what happens. Mapps looks like he's now had his head turned, and will run down the contract, unless Watford sell beforehand. Watford have to either sell now or in the summer.
I hope that by refusing this contract, Watford build on it and hopefully offer him more money. £800 is only a small amount compared to the £200,000+ earned by big names in football so Mariappa wouldn't be human if he wanted to earn the best possible money in his career. I know I want to earn the best wage possible in my career. However, I hope that Watford don't get scared off by this rejection and sell quickly because they think they will get more money now then in the summer when his contract is low.
Looks likes Marriappa wants to go to Newcastle. It's being reported by Sky Sports that he has said he wants another crack at the Premiership. Add that to turning down the latest contract offer and it looks as though Watford have to try and get the best deal they possibly can. Pardew's unsettling tactics have worked it seems.
I love it when Watford play hardball over transfers. I've not had a stiffy like this since the Ashley Young fee rose from £3.5m, past £5m and then £8.5. If we got £7m combined for Sordell and Mapps or even more, and were able to invest even half of it in new players, I think we'd genuinely have a budget to build a very decent team if Wilson/Dyche used it wisely. Maybe they've got all the lemons out of their system, like Aidy did with his first half dozen signings.
Yup, completely agree. You could build a decent Champ team from that kind of money - the biggest issue is hoping the we've learnt from the not very good signings we have made already. If so, then this could turn out to be a very decent bit of business from the club.
I think as well that when Dyche bought in some of the players in the summer they were to fill holes for positions rather then to replace the departing player. I have complete faith that the next player(s) we bring in will not be duds and will be great additions to the squad
Well I can see why he would want to join Newcastle but I hope he doesn't ruin the good vibes he has with the fans by demanding a transfer etc.
I can see why anyone would go for the pay rise he's gonna get. He's got a young family and footballers don't have long careers. It's a shame he'll be stuck on their bench though. Their fans have even been talking about him being backup for Williamson! Even Pardew has said they'll be signing their main targets in the Summer which will push him further down the pecking order. Hopefully he'll do well though, top bloke and great servant to the club.
This used to be the case but no longer holds any water. Lets say he plays for 10 years at 10k a week he's not going to have to do much when he hangs up his boots is he, and even if he wants to, continue to work there is always coaching, management, punditry etc. or heaven forbid get a real job like the rest of us mortals.
What if he got an injury that cut short his career? You can see why a footballer would want to make as much money as possible in the game while they can.
You could build a good team....unless either Dyche wastes the money or we get forced to pay well over the odds for their replacements! Lets face it, the January transfer window tends to go hand in hand with ridiculous transfer fees (especially with only 5 days left). If we lose Mapps or Sordell I am very sceptical about whether they will be adequately replaced and whether we can stay up this season. Relegation would be much more costly than any profit made by selling this month!
If he broke his leg tomorrow the insurance wouldnt take into account the fact that he was close to moving and trebling his wages
**** happens, though, if he broke his leg he'd get top treatment, and loads of time to recover, you or I would get a plaster cast, and crutches, and go back to work with a limp. Also as I said just because a footballer can no longer play doesn't mean they can no longer work.
Just because he turns down one offer, apparently, doesn't mean he won't sign a new contract. He probably wants top money which after his performances this season he deserves.
Another 50 years to live with no qualifications outside of football, presumably a big house, big mortgage, nice cars to run, young family to support? I think most players at our club would struggle if they received a career ending injury tomorrow
If he has been sensible he will have been earning - what £500 a week 18-19 : £50k £1500 a week 20-21 - £150k £3000 a week 22-23 - £300k £4000 a week 24-25 - £400k If he manages another 3 years even with Watford he'll earn another £800k- He would still have earnt more than most will earn in a lifetime.
