According to his twitter account: 'Glad to be on loan at Wycombe Wanderers FC for a month, hopefully get some games and wins under the belt #WWFC' Good luck to him
I can see his loan getting extended if he is doing well there as I can't see where he is going to fit into our side.
Hugely disappointing to see we've let him go out on loan to a league 2 side. He was playing in League 1 last season, and was comfortable at that level for *****s sake. Why has Zola farmed him out to Wycombe? What's the point in sending him there? Zola - are you telling me that there are NO clubs in L1 that will take him?
Maybe Thompson chose to go there? Who is to say that there weren't clubs from a higher division in for him, but he's gone to Wycombe through choice? Further to that, he wasn't playing every week for Brentford, maybe Wycombe has guaranteed he'll be starting games for the month he is there.
Hmm. I find it very hard to believe that given his solid displays for Brentford last season, it wasn't at all possible for him to go back to League 1 again.
It would have been preferable for him to be back at League One level. He has ability and is one for the future. Perhaps this is down to have some gentlemans agreement with Wycombe over any promising youngsters they may unearth. After all they have produced several recently. I recommended Williamson and Phillips was missed.
Smudger, out of interest, on what capacity do you recommend? I've seen you mention it before, do you work in that field/for the club?
Not in any capacity. I just recommended that the club take a serious look at signing him on the basis of his performances for Wycombe. A couple of mates are Wycombe fans had been mentioning him for a couple of years as a top class player. I went to some games with them and was suitably impressed with his confidence on the ball, aerial prowess and all round defending and thought yes he could quite easily make the step up. Sent off a letter to the club. Might and probably is simply coincidence but we then signed him in the winter window of 2009. However one didn't realize he was a mercenary at the time...... If you watch plenty of football and have done for a long time you can tell if a player has it or not by what they do not just on the ball but off it and their technical level. John Barnes arrived via the recommendation of a Hornet who watched him playing parks football and saw he had qualities that would see him as a professional rather than playing at Sudbury Court.
Doesn't mean all the fishes end up in the net though does it ? We've seen Vardy recently appear at Leicester and there are several others. Should Wycombe happen upon someone we may get preferential treatment if we send a few of our kids their way.
