Yes so why did we spend money on a player if he's similar to Abdi? Take your time.

Exactly, QSF is the one saying we do not have any of the same players yet Jurado is basically Abdi but with a bigger price tag. I feel that if QSF is so set on playing 4-2-3-1 then he has signed the wrong players because the midfield 3 all have to be pacey and have an eye for goal like Chelsea, Hazard, Pedro and Willian. Which leads me onto the point that with our current squad we should look at alternative formations as we don't have the pace in midfield with the exception of Anya to be playing at 4-2-3-1.

No the point I was making is that Jurado is better than Abdi. Plus Quique trusts him as he's used him before.

I think a couple of major injuries have been the big problem. Im sure he could still produce the odd magic free kick and the odd slick pass but unlike QSF we dont get to see these players on the training pitch so can't compare him and the system within the newly built squad. I also don't think he has been much of a ball winner more of a flair player when he was in the Championship and when teams were getting the better of us in that league I hate to say it but they were getting by him too easily (injuries possibly the reason). If QSF has no room for him then we are just going to have to accept it.

Is he? He's far from proven that yet as a Watford player. Yes he looks very classy at times but his passing leaves something to be desired at the moment and until he scores the goals, registers the assists and puts in the sort of performances Abdi has in the past then he's not better than Abdi.

Yeah i get where you are coming from Abdi is not a great tackler but i also think he deserves the chance considering Layun is looking better in the Premiership and i thought he wasn't all that in the Championship. I would rather QSF had stuck to what Deeney had said and bought Premiership proven players as i think alot of our signings are struggling to adapt so far. However i do have faith in our manager as he wouldnt have won trophies if he didn't know what he was doing. In terms or Jurado i do not think he has done anything so far in any game that Abdi would not be able to do.

I think Abdi might go! Not because he is not good enough for the PL, but because he is injury prone!

If we can get decent money for him, then I think we should say thank you very much and goodbye; His fitness problems can possibly be carried at a lower level and he will make a great asset for a top Championship team, but unfortunately, as good as he is, because of his injury problems he is too much of a luxury for a PL team.

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand the sentiment or message behind this post. Would you care to clarify?

With respect bringing up names like Zidane who was one of the best midfielders of all time or Scholes, Xabi and Pirlo who were arguably their countries best midfielders of their generation doesn't really help when arguing that Abdi is a Premier League standard player.

If Abdi was as good as Cantona or Bergkamp, yes he should play just off the striker, but he aint is he. Maybe you should be bringing up players from our potential relegation rivals to compare him to rather than some of the best players ever.

Its like saying slow coach Belkalem should play as Bobby Moore had no pace.

There is obviously no comparison between Abdi and Zidane etc its an example that you do not need pace to be creative player, look at hoolahan a diving whatsoever but he has like 3 assists already and he isnt the quickest. The message should be simply this if he is not going to try Abdi in the formation we have and does not see a need for him then yes sell him. He was our stand out player from last season and we had no creativity when he wasn't playing, so give him the chance or let him go.

    Yes that's exactly it.:forehead:

No I'm just expressing an opinion and stating my concern that performances have not created as many goal scoring chances as I'd have liked. I've also suggested a possible reason and solution for this. Nothing more, nothing less and I'm not the only person with this opinion. I would think the vast majority of supporters offer advice to players or management at some point during a match, whilst tucking into their meat pie. It's part of being a supporter.

Why didn't he make the grade at Udinese?

  13. NathWFC

Perhaps because at the time Udinese were a team looking at European football with some top quality players, and because he likely wasn't quite the player back then that he has grown into during his time with us?

QSF has done very well in cup competitions in the past, with players such as Aguero and Forlan to strike when opportunities arose.

I certainly am not saying he should be sacked; how dare I question anything the manager/ Pozzos do bla bla bla.

But with Jokanovic, certainly in my experience, every substitution I wanted to make, he did. Even at the beginning of his reign, I barely had a negative thought tactically about him. He kept trying things out until he found a solution. The definition of insanity is trying the same thing again and expecting different results.

We were playing well in the first half because our two central midfielders are combative and push high up the pitch. On Sunday, as they dropped back in the second half, there was a huge disconnect between them and the striker. The hole was crying out for a player who could connect the midfield and attack and relieve pressure. There was no movement ahead of the midfield.

Ighalo was non existent. Keeping a player on when he is playing poorly as a gamble seemed foolish. Playing a poacher as an attacking midfielder makes him neither an attacker, nor a midfielder.

Deeney was isolated, and although he got on the end of a few headers, he was pressured enough that he barely got enough on the end of it that it went straight to a Southampton player. He is an all rounder, but to be great on your own up front, you often need to be especially good in one area: whether that is aerial ability, pace or touch. I don't think Deeney had a bad game on Sunday, just that he was given breadcrumbs by a formation that doesn't play to his strengths.

And Diamante wasn't match sharp, nor did he offer us the pace that was pushing Southampton back in the first half, and that destroyed them a week before. Playing with two inside forwards in the premiership was the folly of another ex-Europa League winning manager, Villas-Boas, who never learned that always cutting in makes a team too pedestrian and predictable.

Again, we got a decent draw on paper. But alarm bells started to ring when he didn't use his substitutions to exploit what went well in the first half, nor what was clearly failing in the second.

I think we have seen more of Abdi and what he can do than QSF has, so yes, in this particular case. Abdi was lost against WBA on the right wing. He needs to play central.

What Abdi can do in the Championship and what he does for Quique in training and in the Premier League are different things.

Just playing devils advocate of course but there's a slim chance he could be a Peter Whittingham (first name to pop in my head)-type player, too good for the Championship, not quite good enough for the top level. Hasn't been in form in quite a while, looked out of sorts towards the end of last season.

Perhaps we've all been whooshed by QSF when he played abdi as a right winger. Good to see he's picking up the English humour.

My heart would be broken if Abdi, Angella and FF go.

Not fussed so much about Vydra as he jumped ship as soon as he possibly could in 2013

While I think what you're saying is slightly cliché, I don't think it's totally unreasonable. If there is a key distinction between Abdi and who I believe is largely competing for his role (Jurado), it is that the latter has the pace/skill to beat a man one-on-one. When teams are so well organised this is crucial for opening space between the midfield and defense imo.

In Abdi's defense he has not been given a decent a run-out in a position that works to his strengths, on the wing against WBA was totally unreasonable. If we don't bring in another midfielder I would be concerned if we let him leave; my worry is that Doucouré is coming in and may well take his spot.

He didn't even look good on the wing against St Albans City.

Call me paranoid if you will - and you might be right to do so - but I have a nasty feeling at the back of my mind that we're going through a re-run of Dave Bassett's scorched-earth policy - getting rid of all our heroes so the new regime and the new generation of signings move forward together without anyone to say or do what went on before (I know it's not just Florrie this time, but also the ex-Leeds guy and Pozzo). Either Vydra and Abdi were set up to fail, or they were being tried out in positions which anyone who'd seen them play before would know weren't right for them.

Vydra has played as the main striker, off the striker and out wide, in other words all the positions he could possibly play in this system. The system that the head coach has pretty much always used which Gino would have known when they went for him. He hasn't impressed Quique in any of those positions I think it's safe to assume so who's fault is that?
