..............Glory in Cardiff :jumping1: Yes it's 8 years since we trounced Leeds in the playoff final in Cardiff, and what a day it was :mengoal: Were you there? If so, please tell us about your memories!!!
Bumping into the same group of leeds supporters on the way back that we saw on the way down at Membury services - to say that their natural big club confidence bubble had been burst understates the degree of their post match depression
I remember the press were outraged that such a big club like Leeds had been denied the chance to earn their "rightful" place in the Premier league by little old Watford. Just a shame we never built on that glorious day in Cardiff..
Stayed in a big hotel on the outskirts of Cardiff which had a fair few Leeds fans in it as well. Got drunk before the game in a huge pub near the ground. Took the new girlfriend, who became Mrs Knight GT, to her first game. Watched us destroy Leeds. Got drunk after the game and ended up at the strippers. Got back to hotel which was still full of very disappointed Leeds fans. Great day and to be fair to Leeds fans, who in general are not the greatest, they all admitted that we were the better team and deserved to win. Know how they feel now!
In the Railway at Bushey at 8am, a whole group of us. They thought we were on the coach trip they had organised - and gave us a load of free bacon butties. Then our coach pulled up at the station and we all piled out! In a big Slug and something or other before game, left at 2:50, in seat at 2:58, knew we would win at 2:59 when all the fireworks went off and the Leeds players jumped out of their skins. Back in the pub after til 7, then sit on the M4 thinking, 'well we won't do as badly as the last time we were in the Prem!'
I was a young 14 year old, and went with my Dad and his best friend, who is a Leeds fan. He endured a lot of gloating that day.
Great day. Travelled over from Ireland with my brother and father. Thought the atmosphere in the stadium was fantastic. We stayed in Watford that night, expecting there to be parties everywhere, but it was very quiet. Was clearly not ITK as to where all the celebrations were taking place. Had a few enjoyable pints all the same. Had never experienced Watford lifting a trophy before, and whilst it is somewhat of a manufactured situation (a cup for winning a play-off), it was a great feeling. Sadly, my father's health would not allow him to travel anymore, but he certainly enjoyed that day.
I recall... Traffic McDonalds in a shopping centre Walking past the old ground to get to the new ground and thinking 'that looks a bit small' Sea of yellow Pitch consisting of mud with the odd bit of grass, why have a moving roof if you don't use it? Leeds losing Lots of beer More traffic More beer
Glorious day for us, but my lasting memory is how utterly hopeless Leeds were. It was the same against Palace last year, but in reverse. It's all a bit weird going to a big final where one team seemingly just wants it more. No final should ever be that straight forward!
Took my girl friend at the time to her first game that day. She's a valleys girl, so we stayed the night before at her best friends, caught a cab into Cardiff. Remember drinking that night in some sort of weatherspoons and the doormen wouldn't let some leeds in. As they looked decent types(which they were) we gave them Watford shirts and they got let in. Funnily enough said girlfriend is now Mrs Rochdale away.........must have been something about that day!
Let's just take a few minutes. Amazing day.
Means nothing as we were relegated, shall we have an anniversary for everything? Get over it etc. etc. ffs McGugan
A worthy anniversary as we were tipped to go down that season! Hendo, King, Demerit, Matty Spring, Young.... what a great team we had that year!
If Carlsberg did weekends that would be it ! Made a weekend of it, pulled a stunner (Compared to my usual Standards) on the Saturday, was with some Leeds friends as well (which made it better), Took a risk on the Travelodge and got it for £10 a night months in advance, Walked the game, (seems to be not as good when it was so one sided) Went straight out on the **** in Cardiff, met some people not seen for a while, met up the other Leeds fans, in nightclub in Leeds, Had a chat with some Soul Crew, could it get any better, half the players turn up in the Nightclub, Leeds friends had to call it a night then! The only bad thing was backed Leeds with £300.00 so if we lost I got a free weekend out of it. Could not care by then. Few weeks Later off to Germany for the World Cup!
