So the remaining fixtures are: (I've included Palace, because 6 points can still be made up) Hull Watford (H) Middlesbrough (H) Ipswich (A) Wolves (A) Bristol (H) - Friday Barnsley (A) Cardiff (H) Watford Hull (A) Cardiff (H) - 5.20 Peterborough (A) Millwall (A) Blackburn (H) Leicester (A) - Friday Leeds (H) Palace Blackpool (A) - Monday Barnsley (H) Don't play on 13th Ipswich (A) Leicester (H) Blackburn (A) Millwall (A) - played Tuesday 30th April Peterborough (H)
I'm probably overoptimistic, but I wouldn't give Cardiff's auto for granted yet. Yes, they have 8 points on the 3rd (us) and only need 14 points in their next 8 matches. But, just like us, they had 5 points in last 5 matches. If they become nervous anything may still happen with still 21 points possible.
Hull and Palace have to play a few teams scrappung for their lives which could work in our favour. I agree with Sherlock in regards to Cardiff as Hull are only four points off them with them still to play us and Hull.
Same goes for us. A win against hull and Cardiff and they draw on the last game of the season would mean we would only need to win 2/3 other games.
by the last game of the season we'll be 3 points behind cardiff and 2 behind Hull, meaning if we win we are guarenteed promotion ( if necessary by goal difference ) Hull will win, so will we and Cardiff will drop into the playoffs
If April is a month when we're back to our best, we can easily win every game after the Cardiff match
Part of me wants to go up auto and part of me wants to go to a 3rd play off final; Palarse, Brighton or Forest would make for an absolutely cracking match
I believe you because you were spot on about our chances of getting automatic being dead after we lost to them at home
Palace are rubbish away, Hull play really ugly away but it works (ALL 10 of their away wins have been by a single goal) and we used to be great home and away but last 5 games have put a check on our progress. I think it's the play offs for us even if we beat Hull Tuesday. Injuries, individual mistakes and awful refereeing have all struck at the same time and even one of these three ailments is usually damaging enough...
Injuries are gone, have to trust referees and that we'd have learnt from our errors. If we beat Hull the momentum and confidence would massively be in our favour.
A win for us tuesday night and the dynamics change again, certainly. We'd be within a point of Hull with a far better goal difference with added confidence. I must confess to not knowing Hull still had to go to Ipswich, Wolves and Barnsley all of whom have something to play for still. I can't see them winning all three of these, in fact, I could see them losing one or two of them. We HAVE to win Tuesday night, otherwise these outcomes are pointless, seven points is far too big a gap psychologically. Win six of our last seven, including Hull away and I think we'll just squeak it.
Without stating the obvious; it's all about Tuesday. If we beat Hull then I think we'll beat Cardiff and then it gets very interesting. For what it's worth I think we will win both.
Almunia, Nosworthy, Hoban, Neuton & Cassetti are all injured, you can never trust referees where Watford are concerned for some inexplicable reason and we are patently NOT learning from our errors; lapse at Wolves in injury time. Followed by another 2 games later. Amazingly followed by yet another two games later. We have won 1 in 5, if we beat Hull Tuesday there's a glimmer but tbh they're great at closing out games and boring the opposition into submission whilst we seem totally incapable of that.
You're including players who weren't playing anyway. Of those, Cassetti and Almunia have what now remain niggles. You can't say we can't go up because we'll get bad ref's!!! And our defence will settle, as it had done before yet more injuries.
I'll let you all know what I think once the final whistle goes after the Leeds game, because I have not got a clue where we are going to finish and whats gonna happen, but I sure am looking forward to the ride :jumping1:
Difficult to be over optimistic at the moment. Even if we beat Hull on Tuesday we will still be 1 pt behind Hull with prospect of Cardiff at home on Saturday. Makes 1 pt out of Barnsley, Blackpool and Burnley hard to swallow. Going onto other forums though no one at the top are confident about their chances.... even Cardiiff think they may still blow it so all is not lost . Playoffs remain a good bet and would rather be in our position than Middlesborough and Leicester. Crystal Palace forum cheered me up no end after their loss to Birmingham... fans not feeling the love for Holloway.
Lots of us are thinking we'll settle for playoffs, but I bet there the majority of Hull fans are still very nervous, especially when they look at our goal difference in comparison to theirs
7 games is still enough for Cardiff to fall. They have so many internal problems and they don't look great on the pitch either.
In theory come saturday evening we could be 2 points of Cardiff if they lose today and we beat them Saturday
Prediction for last 7 games:- L L L L L L W Of course, the W won't matter as we'll be out of the playoffs by then.
Hull Watford (H) draw Middlesbrough (H) win Ipswich (A) win Wolves (A) lose Bristol (H) - Friday win Barnsley (A) lose Cardiff (H) draw total 11 points? Watford Hull (A) draw Cardiff (H) - 5.20 win Peterborough (A) lose Millwall (A) win Blackburn (H) win Leicester (A) - Friday win Leeds (H) draw Total 14 points? Hull have to play us and we must not lose this game, a win would be great but a draw would not be a disaster, they also have to go to Barnsley, Bristol & Wolves who are all fighting for their Championship lives and all have had a recent run of good form, not forgetting they also have Cardiff on the last day, will MM make sure his team go for it even if they are already promoted? I think he might for old times sake? If it goes like I have shown we would miss out on automatic by one point; so it looks like we might have to beat Hull to do it? It's going to be close whatever happens :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:
Whether we win, lose or draw tomorrow (well, tonight...), I wouldn't be too down-hearted considering one more win from the final six (after tomorrow) would probably be enough to make the play offs. I can't see Leicester, Derby or Bolton creeping in (has anyone seen Leicester's run in?) to the top six, and with games running out fast, we're almost certainly there and guaranteed a play off spot. It takes a bit of working out, but I've spent about 5 hours doing it this evening and I think I'm almost there - my maths mostly based on Leicester who still have much of the top six above them still to play, thus meaning points will be dropped in some extremely crucial games. I want to say we'll get second, but if not, I predict the table not changing too much to how it currently stands. But first, let's beat 'ull...
It is a must win game at Hull..or it is all over regardless of the goal difference that some mention. As long as we stay 3rd then we have the advantage in the play off's.
