Trouble is 5 live is only for the UK, cannot get it overseas...... Would go for WW but from all the bad press it gets it does not seem worth it. Dont suppose anyone has a link that works abroad, tried some of the streams for live coverage but as I am on dial up it is no good. Will have to bung the village mukhtar a few euro to get him to speed up the installation of broadband!
For those who listned on this station 5live kind about us? Heard a report where the commentator said we deserved to win as we carried more threat and defended well etc which is what I saw!
They spent most of the match talking about how Swansea must be suffering from their match against Fulham, not that we had palyed Chelse at the weekend as well . Then Claridge proceeded to advise us that he could not figure out our formation and that Swans 5 in the middle would mean our full backs would end up one on one.... then bang ,Tamas scored. In the end he begrudgingly admited we deserved the win, but Swansea had an off daY !!!! Not a good commentry by them in my opinion.
More time was spent going round the grounds than talking about the match in front of them. First half (which is all i heard) i think they commented on the game for a total of 6 minutes. :rant: But as most have said they didn't want to talk about Watford just how the Swanns were having a day off. Come on we all should be used to that by now though. Well played Watford another 3 point on Saturday would be great.
Poor effort from 5Live. Great to have them there, but fark me they're negative sometimes... I listen to 5Live Sport religously on weekday evenings (err, and weekends) and it's all just a bit cozy with the big teams if you ask me. The interview with Frank Snr pre match wound me up too. Did they even discuss Watford?? "A draw would have been perfect" says Frank Snr regarding Saturdays Cup game with Chelsea... I dispair... In fairness, Mark Clemmitt is a leg-end and is a wonderful ambassador for non-PL football and I reckon he should do full-match commentary, but dear old Stevie Horse n' Carriage needs to get a reality check... I actually quite like him, but he needs a reality check none the less.... Something I'm surprised about given his lower league experience... I find he's often way too harsh. Lampard OUT > Blissett IN
Some time afterwards...as well and we were chasing Chelsea around the pitch using up energy more than Swansea were against Fulham I would have thought. I suspect they only choose our game because of how well Swansea looked on telly...so were disappointed to find us getting in their way and perform well unlike against Reading when 5live last covered us a bit. Ofcourse they like most of the media really only take great interest in the Premiership...for example tonight will be Man U v Fulham probably.
It was absolutely terrible 'commentary' As stated before, they only commentated for about 30 secs at a time and then went elsewhere for updates, and they both seemed genuinly dissapointed that Watford had spoiled the Swansea party. Excuse after excuse, and no praise at all for the Orns. 'the pitch won't help Swansea', 'they must be tired after playing Fulham' yad, yada, yada. Almost wish they hadn't bothered and that I just watched the updates on SSN.
I gave up on the 5live commentary last night after about 10 mins as they had hardly mentioned the game and were more interested in what was going on elsewhere. Swapped over to WW commentary which for once didn't drop out all game and seemed to be a fairer reflection of the game. At least they know who our players are. (As well as recommending the watfordlegends website)
Not having been able to listen to commentaries from the UK in a number of years I may have missed the advent of new Radio formats. Commentaries used to be by one person actually about the match i.e. Doyley to Smith on the wing, skips a tackle from Winterburn, high cross into centre of penalty area, headed clear by Adams etc etc…..then a discussion at half time . Has the world of broadcasting changed that much since I have been away ? Thinking about it I never listened that often in the UK as I was invariable at the match. Last night gave me no Idea of the game at all, well apart from Smith is too good for us and Swansea are tired from the weekend! That is all as my typewriter ribbon is fading and the Dinosaur needs feeding..
We aren't in the premiership and so it's pointless and boring, and therefore the commentators are best off talking about anything else but what is actually going on in the game. I think that's how the BBC see it anyway.
I think I am more disappointed because invariably they block transmission for overseas so it was a rare chance to listen to how we are playing. I am tempted to subscribe to WW but all I hear from the forum is how bad it is .... Perhaps generous person at the club could use skype and we could join a conference call. Well it is late here so had enough of work and going home before the Sun sets!
Word..... Apart from Mark Clemmitt, he's a star. But the whole "Big 4/5" thing on 909 (and 606) is depressing... :rant:
The mentioned it, gave the web address, said that it is updated every Wednesday with a new interview, and were generally quite positive about it (nothing negative). Can't remember the exact wording but the pair of them both said something, so it must have been a free 30 sec to 1 min advert for you . They had just been talking about getting ex-players into 3CR on matchdays to talk to them about the match so it slotted in quite well after that. (Sorry for late reply, haven't been around for a couple of days.)
Anyone know what station todays match is on? Couldn't be there due to dodgy chicken! (Edit: it gave me food poisening)
