The advert also says they are expected to sell them at half-time. Make them wait in the street for 45 minutes?
The draw is at half time, and usually the first thing they do as soon as the plonker with the mic wanders on to the pitch after the players leave, so I think it's unlikely they'll be looking to sell more then.
I think mugged off is a rather extreme statement. I would interpret it as the trust are seeking motivated sellers, removing the potential for sellers to under deliver yet still be rewarded by way of a free ticket. I think giving younger supporters the opportunity to contribute or cover the cost of their ticket by working for a couple of hours beforehand is a great idea. Perhaps the raffle had been misunderstood to be a benefit/entitlement by incumbent sellers and it wasn't especially productive. There is nothing wrong with breathing a bit of life into things.
In all the years I've been going to the Vic and in every area of the ground, (except corporate), I've never been offered a ticket inside the ground. Perhaps they might sell a few more if they tried mooching around the bars?
If the 50/50 is to carry on it needs far better promotion. Oxford United with crowds of 4,500-6,000 usually manage a single 50/50 prize of around £1,000. If a L2 club with that size of attendance can sell 2k tickets a game it makes our sales look pretty paltry!
That's impressive-do they roll it over though? Our biggest sales last season was (unsurprisingly) the Sheffield Wednesday game. Around 400 sold in hospitality, and another 400 or so around the ground. Sales will be higher next season, I think, due to the regularly bigger crowds, but I also think it needs more promotion. The sales have essentially remained stagnant for the last four years I've been doing it, roughly, although it's noticeable that sales increased with improved performance - so whilst we were doing well under Malky, they were more than the rubbish period under Dyche, for example. My main sales tactic was the "bellowing" approach when massive crowds were about; I've tried the "speaking to people" and it never really seemed to work. Maybe people just don't like gingers?
