Just trying to work out what I'm looking at in the main picture that goes with this article (can't/won't embed the image as it's from ***** so it might cause "problems"). Is that us versus Man Utd in '86? Didn't we win one of these tournaments with MoJo ('85?).
Yes we won the 1993 Evening Standard 5-a-side at Wembley.. I can't find any details of other years but i'll keep looking.
Here's the highlights, if anyone wants a nostalgia trip http://www.whoateallthepies.tv/vide...-cup-played-with-first-team-players-1993.html
anyone remember that Isle of Man cup we played in? The summer after we got promoted to the prem for the first time. For some unknown reason we went to that, saw us get battered by some ****e like oldham (I think), then came home with "premier league, you're having a laugh" ringing in our ears. Baffling stuff all round.
No no I won't have that! We actually lost on pens to Oldham in the.. and to give it it's full title.. Isle of Man Steam Packet Festival international football tournament! We then beat the might of a Isle of Man X1 (note not the full side) one nothing before securing 3rd place in another penalty shoot out with Tranmere Rovers.. in front of a whooping 500 spectators.
Chamberlain broke his finger I remember (and in typical WFC injury fashion it took him ages to get fit) I think that 5-a-side tournament was quite a big deal in those days. Top scorers with Lee Nogan up front eh?
did you go? all I remember was one dreadful nightclub, a casino and locals that looked like they stepped straight out of Deliverance. And that everyone knew everyone. good times
No didnt make that trip.. was a poor student at the time. I had a couple of mates that went though and i remember one saying when he got back that he felt he'd been in that film 'The Wicker Man' and that he was glad to get back to the mainland :]]
