http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/localsport/4580038.Watford_want_three_new_signings/ Watford are aiming to make at least another three signings in the coming weeks and manager Malky Mackay hopes to bring in a new player before their next league game against Barnsley. Mackay refused to discuss any individuals but the Watford Observer understands Hornets legend Heidar Helguson is one possible recruit after being made aware of his availability by Queens Park Rangers. Norwich City midfielder Wes Hoolahan has also been linked with a move to Hertfordshire, as has his team-mate Gary Doherty. “We want to bring in players who want to better their careers and not just a journeyman who is looking to fill the last part of his career here. I do not advocate that at all. “We didn’t want to buy someone and then regret it for the next three years. “When we sign someone we want to get it right and if that means waiting until December and using the loan market for the next few months then so be it.”
It could also be read that MM is not keen on HH. "We want to bring in players who want to better their careers and not just a journeyman who is looking to fill the last part of his career here. I do not advocate that at all."
To be honest though if he didn't want a "journeyman...looking to fill the last part of his career here" why bid for Cresswell on deadline day?
Not really related to the article, but I saw Heidar play against Norway today. He looked really strong and was a handful even for Hangeland. But, he missed two unbelievable sitters that really should have won the game for Iceland. I think he's still a valuable player. A season long loan would be nice.
wes hoolahan didn't even make the norwich squad today,so perhaps he is set to join the golden boys on loan, when the loan window re-opens on tuesday
Gary Doherty fits the bill of what we don't want - a panic buy if ever there was one. I'm worried Malky might be signing another 'mate' who is past it...
NEW NEWS: You're still trying to sign Welbeck on loan as Macheda's injury is not as bad as first feared.
Someone on a Norwich forum has heard that Doherty was supposed to come to us last Tuesday, but the deal fell through because he wanted compensation! (for moving up a division?). Apparently Hoolahan was due to join Swansea but that fell through at 4.55, poster didn't know why. They've heard that both are going out on loan on Tuesday, no details as to where.
The scary thing is that now we know Cresswell won't be coming and Healey is being linked, it looks like we only have 1 player in HH lined up but are still searching for the other two. The players we are being linked with are bog standard championship players rather than better quality players, to replace quality thats gone, who could make a difference
