Time will tell how good he is but Roger Johnson to Birmingham for £5 mill backs my argument and he is older. Its a matter of opinion just like reducing season ticket prices etc.

Taking the issue of our individual valuations of the player out of it for one moment, how was the club supposed to negotiate up to this fee? There was barely an hour and a half to spare yesterday when the deal was done. If we held out for 3 million up front, we risked the deal collapsing (a near certainty I would say) and us being stuck with an unwilling player until January.

In Jan, it would have been widely known that Willo was unsettled and bids would reflect this (if there were any).

I can't see that we had any option but to take the 2 mill from Pompey and be very careful not to bite their hands off.

Exactly. William$on's actions and the culture of player power has dictated that we were always gonna be on the back foot with this one...

but brum didn't come in for him, portsmouth did. A player goes for the price a club is willing to pay - unless its Reading:]].

we would have been happy to sell Hammer B to swindon for £200k, instead a year or so later we rob Foolham of millions becasue thats the price they were willing to pay.

Is it only a %age of the profit? I thought it would be some of whatever future fee has was sold on for.

Well this is the big unknown. As has been discovered the prevailing situation in football now (Ashley Young and Mike Williamson to name but two) is for sell-on clauses only to cover profit. Football Manager has always portrayed them as a percentage of the whole fee but to be honest profit makes more business sense for the buying club.

    Fair enough UEA - thanks.

The main problem the club had was the timing of all this. Williamson spitting his dummy out and demanding a move, aswell as declaring himself unfit and refusing to train with his team mates with only 3-4 days left of the transfer window, really screwed us over!

If a bid had come in with a couple of weeks to go, and Williamson hadn't acted the way he had, I seriously think we'd have got nearer £4,000,000 for him.

The club HAD to sell him. There's no going back for a player once they've stuck their fingers up at the chairman, the manager, his team mates and the fans! Ala the Marlon King transfer. Morale is important, especially with such a young and inexperienced squad. We can't carry 'bad eggs'. Williamson was a bad egg.

    Good business by the Russo's.

Actually, Football Manager gives you the option of either, as like in real life.

what if the russos had said to willo - " we have had a bid, our initial reaction is to turn it down as it is way under our estimates. Do you want to talk to them or go there, if so if they match our valuation then you are free to leave - in the meantime you remain a wfc player, we need your commitment on Saturday at Swansea and lets see what transpires" - all wfc parties may have been more dignified in this - having the tough stance is not always the best way to get the best result - i can see clearly why Willo spat his dummy.

Still the £2m is a good fee for an untried lower league player - will be interesting to see how he and TS do down portsouth.

Well we don't know how it transpired. They may have spoken to him and tried to assuage him and make him feel wanted, but his head had been turned and he wanted out.

I don't really care what happened, all I know is he is a very fortunate position and I completely question his attitude, commitment and professionalism. I personally believe he thinks he's Joleon Lescott.
