Well it was one window of absolutely appalling recruitment. Fletcher a L1 player. Why ? And that's just one example.

And another window of panicking about the defence. This despite any fan with half a brain being able to see what needed doing.

It could be done if the scouting work was done properly. There are bargains to be had and players with the right mentality. However the plan seems to be to ask Uncle Mogi what he has on his books and leave it at that. Not forgetting the scout in South America who does wonders by himself.

Is it not alarming that Leventhal's article suggests that it's only with hindsight that our owner feels that he should have invested in defence.

That's despite every ******* fan on here and probably everywhere else seeing that an defence of Cathcart, WTE, Kiko and Rose wasn't Prem quality.

Is the lad touched? He never speaks so I've no idea what he is like but from the decisions made, time and time again, it's hard to credit it to a normal level of intelligence, even with the generous allowance of all the bad luck in the world.

Seriously. Just how thick is Gino Pozzo?

Feels a long time ago that we were allegedly on the verge of signing Lyanco. Of course we were not even interested in signing central defenders. I dread to think what we were paying Danny Rose each week.

To be fair, he’s done nothing at Southampton. But the point about not signing CB’s very much stands.

It still smarts very much that we sat back and watched Kim-Min Jae sign for Fenerbahce for less than €3m.

I think it’s more that he’s incredibly stubborn, and he had a blueprint that has worked in Serie A for decades but that doesn’t translate to the Premier League in the same way. I’d almost be willing to forgive him for the first relegation, as long as he learned his moneyball type approach of just sticking glorified training cones in defence and spending all the budget on attacking midfielders doesn’t cut it in the PL. Unfortunately he doubled down even more and gave us an even worse defence then when we were relegated, so maybe mixed in with that incredible stubbornness is a whole lot of stupidity.

It really would be nice if someone like Leventhal could try and find out what’s happened with Sierralta this season. Gone from breakout CB performed to non-entity in quick fashion…

Banished by club for club/country row?
    Long Covid issues?
    Regression in talent?

Just seems very, very odd that successive managers, whatever their varying levels of incompetence, have overlooked him on a consistent basis and favoured CB’s who have looked awful and continually made mistakes. Initially it was WTE deemed a better option this season, then Cathcart and Kabasele.

But it’s gone largely without mention from reporters and the club.

If worse players are outperforming themselves then you can understand it - but when we have been as bad defensively as we have, why hasn’t he been tried out?

Also - where the f*ck has Nkoulou been these last few weeks? We were told he was available.

    Shambles.

You know what the answer to this will be, if he’s not playing he must be crap, see also Zinc. Gino doesn’t get things wrong and neither do our managers.

Yep, he was arguably the best CB in the Champ last season along with Guehi.

Guehi has been doing very well playing regularly for Palace this season, in theory Sierralta should have been the same.

Sierralta played in three league games under Munoz and two under Ranieri, the last of which, at home to Spurs, was probably the best team defensive performance he was involved in. He did score an own goal in one game and have a period out injured, but I suspect the last two managers have opted to put the most experienced players in the team rather than seeing if anyone else might do better. Hodgson in particular seems wedded to that approach.
