Can anyone find or tell me what position we were in (in terms of place and points behind play-offs in the table) before we went on a 15 game unbeaten run or something simliar, in which we got into the play-offs and got promoted... Just a bit of optimism for the end of the season...anything can happen. Correct me if I'm wrong too.
I admire your optimism.. But it was only a 10 game unbeaten run and we were in seventh place when the run started, on level point with WBA who were in the final play off birth. At the corresponding time of year as now (23rd jan to be precise) we were also in seventh spot. Just one point from the play off positions. I believe our end of season unbeaten run was matched (or as near damn it) by several other clubs.
Cheers Stevohorn. For some reason I thought we were sitting mid table and we produced a great run to sneak into the play-offs.
Actualy.. so did i! (til i checked it) But i do seem to recall that the sides around us went on similar runs. Btw we won seven out the last ten games and drew the other three. We had lost three games on the trot leading up to that sequence. Here's a link.. http://www.watford-mad.co.uk/footydb/loadtmrs.asp?ssnno=128&teamno=544 Note you can get the rolling table by clicking on the right hand side there..
I was there Stuboy.... Im sure Mooney came off the bench.... that or GT made 3 subs with 20 to go, something like that. As you say, WHAT A GAME, WHAT A DAY! Looking at the table, after drawing the game prior to Tranmere we were 4 points off 6th place having played a game extra. After the tranmere game, Wolves had won their game in hand which meant we were 7 points off with just 7 games to go. That's why it was such a big feat.
Don't forget we were down to 9 men as well! The crowd was very pumped up I remember. Details here: http://www.bsad.org/9899/reports/tmereh.html and yes Mooney did come off the bench. The title 'Carnage' for the match report is quite apt!
Ah yeah.. that would explain it. I dident check the table after the start of the 10 game unbeaten run. The fact that we had drawn the first two of them meant we had lost ground.
I seem to remember the game at Port Vale in the run-in being particularly memorable. The suppport that night was fantastic and two goals from Mooney winning it, the second late on. Wasn't that the game Robbo crocked one of the Vale players and afterwards there were threats of him being sued?
