Not sure if it's been posted before but I have just seen the extended highlights of the match against Chelsea on YouTube. Don't know how to post those linky things!!!! It was posted on YouTube by FootballGaffesGalore under 69/70 The Big Match 14/03/1970. Brought back some memories, despite the defeat, as I was sat with my Dad in the seats above 'The Shelf' towards the Park Lane end. The pitch was as bad as I remembered, resembling a beach there was that much sand on it. Today's players don't know how lucky they are. Terry Garbett, my favourite as a kid scored a great goal and until Duncan Welbourne got crocked we well in the match. Well worth a look for nostalgic reasons if not the result!

The pitch for the QF wasnt all that great either. Here's a short colour clip.. PS Just think those ball boys celebrating there are well into thier 50's by now!
Yourve got a few years on me.. not many.. but a few Crazy though isnt it.. even some of the stuff that feels pretty recent really isnt. Its been 14 years since we made our debut in the Premier league!
It certainly is. I'm going to City on Saturday and was just thinking the first time I went there (Maine Road) to see Watford was 30 years ago - Corrigan got injured and Bobby McDonald went in goal and we didn't bother testing him out once!
I (aged 12) also went with my dad-we were late in the ground and not having been to White Hart lane before, we rushed in and walked up the steps to get a good view of Watford attacking the far end through a gangway separating the fans-just then Garbett shot and scored-my dad shouted at the top of his voice-Yesss. We both saw most of the other end erupt and loads of faces turning round in front of us looking very unhappy. The police came over and walked us round to the right end ! We watched most of the rest of the game on the terracing in front of the shelf. 55,000-what an experience for little old Watford then. Much to my surprise i was allowed a month later to go to Highbury with my 17 year old neighbour to watch the 3rd/4th play off between the losing semi finalists-Man U- on a Friday night-only 15,000 -a lot of Man U-(cockney reds) and Watford in the Northbank-with loads of Arsenal "fans " alongside us to even the numbers up
So glad you posted that. I'd seen Endeans goal before but not the rest - it's an excellent watch. Some of the tackles towards the end were strong to say the least!
Ahhhhh 1-1 at halftime. Hopes were so high of another miracle win. Then to lose 5-1. I'll be honest, I cried my eyes out. I was 8.
Me too Clive. My dad didn't take me to WH lane (think he was on the ****) cue tears. Listened on radio cue more tears.
I'm on this at 9.20 minutes as the camera scans round. I was standing by the fence next to the fella jumping over. I was wandering whether to jump over despite my dad standing a few feet behind me telling me not to! I can't believe I look so glum, I was on cloud nine - but worrying how I was going to save up for the semi final.
I thought the record gate was the united replay a couple of years earlier, 34099? Stood in the vic rd end with my Dad,uncle and big bros, all I can remember is seeing the floodlights and being very squashed! That was the start of my love affair with WFC and what a cruel mistress she's been at times!
Yes, the Man Ure game the season before was the record attendance: http://www.watfordfcarchive.com/downloads/lists/Largesthomeattendanceeachseason.pdf
It was the first time.. but not the only. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FA_Cup_Third-fourth_place_matches Looking at some of the attendences there its no surprise it was dropped.
