I see Hitzlsperger is released. Weren't we rumoured to be after him in January?

Indeed. Maybe he'll come here? What about Carlton Cole? Didn't he play under Zola?

Bentley, Pennant and Bramble jump out for me.

Is that Danny Simpson of Newcastle? He'd be a very good addition to compete for that right back slot.

  6. That seems a lot of players, how does it compare with last year? Smaller squads driven by FFP maybe?

Pennant was crap when on loan at Watford even when he was thought to be good. Bentley was a promising talent who lost it; Bramble is a disaster waiting to happen.

Hitzlsperger, Baird, di santo, Schwarzer and gera are five that stand out for me. Four experienced players and di santo, who on his day can be class!

Denilson would be an amazing signing, but it looks likely he will be going back to Brazil.

Pretty much every player mentioned above would want 10k plus. Can't see us paying that kind of money for older players when the pozzos have such a vast world wide scouting network. Players from South America/Scandinavia/eastern Europe would cost half that in wages and are far more driven than the likes of bramble who is a prime example of the "young millionaire" generation of a few years back. He'd only get arrested for more of his hotel room antics

Chris Baird, maybe Benayoun and Simeon Jackson, the rest are all underwhelming apart from Scholes of course. Could see Ferreira coming here on a year contract.

Thoughts on Danny Simpson? He would be a great signing for us for free in my opinion.

I've always thought of him highly. Sure he'd do very well at watford

This list isn't completely correct because although they've been 'released' they're not available to sign, Owen has retired, Carragher has retired, etc.

I think the same applies to the ones who'd already agreed to switch clubs in January for free are still listed, Kolo Toure to Liverpool for example.

It's hard to know who's actually available without a club. I imagine the very best on that list who you'd think "he'd be nice to have", already have deals elsewhere.

Saying that, I'm sure some of the old Arsenal/Chelsea/United/Spurs academy players, given the right knowledge, would be worth a punt. Particularly Arsenal, as they're just jumping a fence to get here.

Chris Baird definately, can play centre mid, centre back, left back or right back (not sure about wing back though)

Danny Simpson would be a great signing.

A lot of baggage off the pitch though I reckon.

Danny Simpson as long as he doesn't bring Tulisa with him.

Turnbull or Harper as keepers happily.

Denilson, Petric, Danny Wilson, Di Santo, Fortune, Bostock, Pennant would all be welcome as starter/squad players

  26. NathWFC

Bostock is crap, Fortune is old and crap and Denilson is crap but will probably still somehow get a bigger move than Watford.

He's broken up with Tulisa I believe.

Simpson is a no from me. People on here said Briggs had an "big I am attitude" well he's a novice compared to Simpson.
