Does anyone else agree that yeates is one of the worst set piece takers we've had in recent years? He can't kick a farking ball, i dont care if every so often he goes close with a free kick, but it never fails to amaze me how many corners/free kicks he totally *****s up the wall.

Hahaha, I liked Forsyths headed attempt right in front of the goal that went flying over, even though it was offside, he didnt know that. I do feel sorry for the guy, he tries his hardest, I just dont think he's good enough.

JB I respect your right to say what you've said to me..and in fairness, maybe I should not have posted so soon after a disappointing performance. Better had I counted to ten first.

However, please don't label me as moronic. Look back through my posts on this site over the last few months and I hope you will notice I always try to be fair, balanced, constructive and articulate. I didn't call for Dyche's head on my last post. I just said I wasn't a great fan of his as manager. He was given licence in summer to make several signings and we ended up with Yeates, Forsyth (techinically I think he arrived just before SD so it may not be fair to add him to the list), Iwelumo, Garner, ****inson..none of whom have impressed me much. I'd far rather see some of our younger players given a chance. I accept though he also signed some quality or players with potential like Hogg, Buaben, Nosworthy etc so all in the garden is not unrosy.

When you say that I don't go to matches, I'm surprised because I don't think we know each other?

Let's not start the Dyche out brigade again. You can't legislate for players turning in performances like that, some of them looked non-league standard. Forsyth started ok and he does get his head up to look for a pass but there was a moment when we were approaching half time and he inexplicably kicked it out of play. Some players are confidence players and unfortunately that was his confidence shot for the evening.

And we couldn't con a 12 year old with those short corners they're 5hit.

Wasn't actually referring to you when I said that as like you say I don't know if you do go to games or don't so that comment was nothing to do with you, apoligies if it seemed that way.

Calling for Dyche's head is pretty moronic to be fair. I haven't noticed that sort of thing from you before and if I looked through your posts I'm sure I would see some decent, measured and interesting posts but that wasn't one of them I'm afraid.

I wasn't exactly calling for his head..I just said I didn't want him as manager in August and I don't want him now! And then, by way of mentioning 5 signings he's made that I don't think have been very good, I tried to justify my view! But it wasn't a hysterical, Watford Observer-type Dyche Out sort of post!!!!

Anyway, its no prob..we are all supporters here and if I wasn't, I'd not have got so worked up as to post my annoyance after a loss!!

It is disappointing because Dyche seemed to have steadied the ship and we seemed to be going forward.

Just for the record, I do go to matches as often as I can, which involves a 300 mile round journey. I've been a supporter for over 30 years now but as my nic hints at at, I am often overseas too and have to rely on Sky more than i'd like.

Keep up the good posts..yours are always among the most interesting here, even if we slightly disagree at times!

'Calling for his head' is coming on and ranting and raving and saying Dyche Out etc!

I just stated that I'm not a big fan of his.

Don't mistake me for some of those who write hysterically on the WO site..and misread what I write!

Don't have a season ticket anymore due to financial reasons because I live in Chelmsford so was (until 20 minutes in) looking forward to seeing us live. These are my thoughts:

Loach - 6: No chance for either goals, no shaky moments, did what he had to do comfortably, but wasn't really tested.
Hodson - 6: Showing what potential he has. Unlucky for their first goal very nearly stopped the move. Decent going forward could even be moulded into a winger imo. Decent defensively and didn't really get a chance to show what he can do going forward. If we could get a left-footed right winger that's better than what we've got that'd be perfect so he can overlap more effectively.
Nosworthy - 6: Solid enough but had a few shaky moments and punted it too readily imo, we look very uncomfortable in possession and this is partly down to getting panicky, giving it to Loach and then hoofing it down the pitch.
Mariappa - 6: Similar to Nosworthy, a bit tidier than him today though. Could be seen to be partly at fault for their first as he looks round, sees Kebe, has no marker but doesn't adjust, but that's harsh as it was too late by then and a great ball in.
****inson - 4: Poor game. Got beaten by Kebe too many times, it must have been drilled into him pre-match but he still dived in a couple of times. We didn't double up enough however and Kebe is rapid. I think he's decent but definitely had a bad day, sloppy marking for their second, why was no-one on the post though?
Yeates - 5: Never really got a chance to get at his FB. Too narrow as a result of our disjointed passing. Still wasteful in possession, set-pieces average and could have done better defensively.
Eustace - 7: Got exposed on his own a couple of times on the break, a flaw of our current formation and why we probably missed Hogg. However, was a leader on the pitch, broke up play well and was one of few who tried to get a foot on the ball and play, but our system simply didn't allow for passing football tonight, which is a shame because we looked dangerous when we got it into our STs' feet.
Buaben - 7 (MOTM for us): Didn't get a great deal of the ball but gets MOTM because he was a victim of our terrible play in possession. When he did get it he looked tidy, creative and definitely showed vision, very impressed with him tonight.
Forsyth - 5: Same as Yeates in that never got the chance to get at his FB, and was never wide enough. Still sloppy and needs to show more in terms of running at people, as Yeates does, although as aforementioned that wasn't entirely their fault, but they definitely need to get wider.
Deeney - 7: Finishing wasn't great but did well in various areas, especially impressed with his movement.
Sordell - 6: Service wasn't there, I'd love to see him popping up everywhere but the service was mainly lumped down the channel rather than into feet giving him a chance to get at defenders. Thought him and Troy had the better of the 2 CBs all game, won most flick-ons, dropped off them well and looked dangerous every time, simply didn't get enough of the ball.

Overall - Terrible in possession, looked vulnerable on the counter. Needed to do much better defensively on both flanks and failed to get on the front-foot for large periods, severely lacking urgency and invention, as if we're happy to stay in the game. Need much more fluidity and to be miles better in possession. We gave it away too easily hence why they always seemed so dangerous on the counter, because they weren't actively defending, we GAVE the ball away. Desperately need a Kightly, and a ST. Not too worried but need signings, survival the only objective. This is a transitional period and a preparation season for next season, when we'll have more money and our youngsters will definitely be ready, although I think we need Whichelow, Murray and more now. Even Assombalonga, defensively can be coached easily and will be full of confidence, has pace and RW and LW are positions where you can experiment.

    Haha cheers.

I get what you're trying to say even though I do think that Dyche is doing a decent job at the moment.

I think it's just a case of two people being frustrated and disappointed after tonight's 'performance'!

I cant see the logic in playing Forsyth ahead of Assombalonga, Murray, Wichelow or even Gavin Massey

Criminal to not even have one of those on the bench at least

Yup! I'll try and be more balanced...

    FOR DYCHE..

Took over at a difficult time

Bought Hogg, Buaben, Nosworthy..loaned Kightly and Weimann

    Cares passionately for the club

    Articulate and fair in interviews

Steadied the ship after a bad start and took us on a decent run

    ANTI DYCHE..

Was given a relatively decent amount of cash to spend and an opportunity to re-build the side, then signed Yeates, ****inson, Iwelumo, Mirfin Garner etc..none of whom have yet consistently impressed or made the 16 man squad much lately

Hasn't given youth much of a chance

Despite the good run, we still dropped too many points from winning positions when playing well and I fear this could still come back to haunt us

Lets hope tonight was just a blip and we can bounce back next week..after all, it was against Bham we first showed our fighting spirit this season!

Not too sure what to say, and certainly not to gloat. I only saw from TV to be honest. Not that much between the sides really, just that Reading probably needed it more mentally because they somehow expect themselves to be up there in the mix being play-off finalists last year, and less than 6th this term would be a disappointment.

I'm agreed that our time-wasting in the last minutes of the game was very ugly by our parts, especially because I am so quick to criticize other teams for it. Don't like it but ... if anything take it as a compliment, because McDermott's teams normally play forward to the death - some 27 2nd half goals compared to only 7 1st half goals this season prove that - and the fact we didn't go for it is because we were obviously worried about the danger you could present us if we weren't careful. Le Fondre badly needed that goal, he'd gone a dozen or more without scoring, but really we couldn't have complained about a 1-1 draw either, Reading didn't show that much flair today.

Finally, I just would like to say it's been a pleasure talking to you all this week, one of the best forums around, and you're all welcome on 'Royals Rendezvous' when you like. It would be easy to lynch another forum - as a couple have done - but THIS is what football is all about :sign15::sign15::sign15:

Poor performance, but after the recent run we've had at home it is tough to grumble. One of the key highlights for me was Loach. He didn't have a lot to do but what he did do was done with conviction and belief.

Nos looked solid defensively but strangely seemed a bit panicked when he had the ball - resulting in a lot of punts forward. ****o struggled, he looked edgy all night. Three times he went to put a cross into their box, all three were poor and the third one allowed them to break and equalise which lead to Yeates doing his nut at him.

Hogg was a big miss tonight, Eustace is a good 'stopper' but he doesn't have the legs to break up the counter attacks. We looked vulnerable of being caught on the break all night. Yeates is frustrating as there is definitely a good player in there but he isn't doing it enough. Forsyth is struggling but I still think he is in the wrong position. I would like to see him in the Buaben position and hopefully Dyche can get a winger in to allow that to happen. A centrally placed Forsyth will be effective, in my opinion.

Deeney and Sordell had very little to feed off. Deeney was dropping deeper trying to get on the ball but it just didn't happen for them tonight.

A neutral I brought along with me tonight commented that Deeney and Sordell both looked good individually but didn't seem to be working as much of a partnership - something I fully agree with.

Onwards and upwards, bring on the Brum.

Utter garbage today and had the stamp of our poor run all over it. It coincides with the re-introduction of Forsyth and I'm sure it has some sort of mental impact on the side. Just as a quality player, like Kightly, lifts team morale, someone like Forsyth seems to depress it. Sorry to lay the blame on this guy, and of course it's not all his fault, but he is symptomatic of a poor team performance. Yeates was extremely bad and Deeney's performance was a total non-event, showing, yet again, why he is only a League One striker. We nearly got a lucky draw, but you can always rely on Watford conceeding a late goal at home, it's what they do best. Why did Dyche take 8 minutes deliberating with the men in red, before taking off Forsyth, it just made him look clueless. Sordell was just lost out there, with so much crap around him, and he's not yet able to lead the line on his own. ****o was below par and was probably at fault for the second goal. All in all a very depressing game, and apart from Hogg, we were at full strength. Without Kightly, there is ZERO quality and too many players that shouldn't even be plying their trade in the Championship, as they are not consistantly good enough. My god, Bassini it's time to get the cheque book out sign a Championship standard striker and a Championship standard winger, then get rid of the the dead wood.

That did cross my mind second half. He had some shaky moments and distribution was poor. Hopefully that was just down to the lack of confidence in the whole team today. He's a good organiser though and I think Loach will become better having Nyron in front of him.

Forsyth just can't get the ball out of his feet! And Yeates deliveries were shocking and went missing for most the second half absolute rubbish today.

However Loach did what he needed to do well.

Also missed Hogg lots today, he sprays balls out well and breaks up play.

Definetley need a pacy winger who can beat a man! Can't have 2 ineffectual wingers.

Shoot me down if yuou want but i think Forsyth would be better off playing behind the front two as he does not seem to lose much in the air and could knock the ball down to forwards as apposoed to knocking the ball down to a left back

He'd be alright for winning headers as the pace isn't there from him to play out wide.

A poor performance and a couple of sloppy goals given away again at the far post (****inson at fault?)

****o has form for leaving his man free at the back post when the ball comes in from the opposite flank

To be fair its not just him, Doyley did it at left back all the time as well

  32. Evasive

    Evasive Requiescat in pace

I thought Loach showed a bit more commitment to getting to the ball early in the game and I was certainly more reassured to see this.

****o did have a bit of a shocker at LB, and I didn't think Hodson did too badly. Mariappa and Nosworthy looked the most troubled as they have in their time playing together.

In midfield, Forsyth and Yeates both struggled to have an impact on the game (apart from the former trying his hardest to get sent off) while Buaben looked reasonably energetic compared to Eustace's more pedestrian display.

Up front, Deeney worked hard but didn't really achieve much while Princess Marv tried too hard to impress on the TV.

Dyche, WTF? How long did he want to look at the clipboard before he realised that Forsyth was going t get himself sent off? Be decisive man and make the change!

That was awful and neither team deserved to get anything from it. We really need to bring in a creative player as quickly as possible as we are so easy to defend against, keep sordell off the ball and no one else has the ability to do anything.

Forsyth should have been sent off and when he got let off I can't believe it took dyche so long to sub him. It is not like he was playing well anyway.

Reading were disgraceful crowding the ref trying to get people booked.
