That's actually really interesting - we've hardly signed any of his players at all in the grand scheme of things. How many other clubs use agents, I wonder? In any legal deal, for example, the fact that other side has a lawyer representing their interests doesn't mean you don't need your own lawyer too, so there's definitely a logical basis for it (specialized knowledge from someone representing your interests). Are we particularly unique in that regard, though? And if so, is it a pointless exercise or are we just ahead of the game, like clubs who started employing set piece coaches/analysts?
No, it's very common for clubs to use their own agent to represent them/their interests in transfer negotiations.
Yeah seems like it's standard practice in the world of football for the agents to wear multiple hats. It seems more unusual for Mogi Bayat to only act for the club and not the player as well. Edit. Didn't read your post properly! But having looked at some of the raw data through one of those hyperlinks in the blog, there aren't that many examples where an agent is working just for the club. It's not unique but also not the norm. Granted I only looked at one year and got bored of scrolling so maybe some clubs do it more than others.
I suspect if the club were asked at the fan committee, then they will use the reasoning of many clubs using third party agents on deals etc. I do not begrudge them that reasoning. The bigger, and indeed simpler, questions are: 1. Why is MB being almost exclusively used? 2. Why are the costs so high in WFC’s case when compared with everyone else outside of the Top 6? 3. Why are the club so comfortable having this guy so close to the club/owner/inner workings? They must be aware of the stories, allegations and charges that have followed him. 4. Has due-diligence been done on the man himself?
As much as I think everyone of those is fair to be asked, do you really think any of the committee would be allowed to ask them? Even if they did, they would probably get brushed off with some well disguised fob off. Still, valid questions as I said, and they deserve to be answered.
Well, Ucko said in his YouTube thing he’d ask. And I’ve had a fair bit of chat with someone else involved and they have assured me it’s top of their priorities to ask and not be fobbed off. But let’s see. I don’t think we are wrong to be sceptical either.
How wonderful that given the season we have just had, the garbage players shipped in who don’t contribute, the agent fees paid and given Bayat’s legal issues we have fans who stroke their chins and wonder if we are “ahead of the game”.
Think the other point that's raised is pertinent too. Why does he only work for us? Is it an exclusivity thing, does he have an undisclosed formal position at the club or are we the only people prepared to touch him with a bargepole?
No doubt the next committee meetings will see the club represented by the medical team, then the catering team, then the ground staff.....none of whom will be competent to comment on such matters.
Late to the party , but that was a very weird documentary (in case anybody not seen Netflix - don’t f*** with cats)
I look forward to the bemused looks of 75% of those in the SGT as they wonder "what the hell is Mogi Bayat?"
The 1881 wouldn’t ever do that, they wouldn’t want to harm their place on the Committee or any of the perks they get from being gladhanded shills.
Then we're just stupid to use him rather than accessories to any subsequently proven claims of wrongdoing. Great.
Well that depends on if you think his hit rate is worse, better or similar to players we sign without him. I'd personally wager they're pretty similar, hence why I'm not massively arsed, as long as it's not proven he's doing anything illegal that we're implicated in.
The issue isn’t just the players (at least not for me). Often he’s not really providing his clients but brokering deals for us (who may be club targets). We could sign the same players and pay half as much in agent fees. Does Bayat really create millions of pounds of value to justify his agent fees. Do we need to pay him say £500,000 to help broker Samir’s move from Udinese? Why? I do think as well that structurally relying on one external agent to broker deals is a bad idea that almost always ends badly.
But we don't have the inside track on that? Could we sign the same players, with no fee, or do these players trust Bayat (for whatever reason), and he uses his influence to get them here? Maybe, I don't know. We paid him £500k for the Samir deal?
If your company hired a freelancer who then got arrested for something connected the same line as work as they do what would your company do about the relationship with the freelancer? Would they continue as normal, suspend it until after the investigation has run its course or would they just cut all ties with them?
No but we paid £12m in agent fees through 2021 -the seventh highest amount in English football and by far the highest as a proportion of transfer fees. And the schedule of deals showed that Bayat was involved in the vast majority of deals. So surely fairly safe to say he’s pulling in the majority of that cash which is a vast amount. Also, why would we need Bayat to sell the Watford move to Samir and why would Samir trust Bayat over his DoF, manager or owner? Bayat had no prior relationship with Samir and does not operate either in his country of birth or in Italy, where he was playing. I recognise that Bayat clients or players playing in his markets or for his clubs or in countries he operates in (Dennis, Louza, Bayo, Kayembe) would certainly value his opinion yes. Samir, less so.
I'd saying he's making decent money, yeah. And I don't think we got massively good value out of him, although selling Dennis for over £20m would probably justify his contribution in an overall poor year. I don't know, how much are we paying him to do so? Has he taken the role of the bloke who would usually have those discussions?
Where the hell is Giaretta in all this if Bayat is front and centre? Just spying on the manager for Pozzo. Utter waste of resource.
Again, how could you reach that view unless you were just bloody mindedly trying to argue for the sake of it. Sent from my SM-S908B using Tapatalk
