Was he right to get up and smack him? Probably not in such a public way, but then if someone had taken the pi** out of Mrs D while she was going through chemo, (women are HYPER sensitive about their hair), I'd 100% have smacked them. Just a shame it wasn't Ricky Gervais making the jokes.

James Corden would've been ideal. Such a slappable pr**k.

By the way I think it's alopecia not chemo.

Was it a girly slap or a proper manly punch? I don't think that Will Smith will ever be able to live down the shame if it was a slap.

More interesting was the BBC presenter referring to one of the other winners as a 'queer'. Is 'gay' no longer acceptable? Hard to keep up

    Setup?

Smith isn't a small dude and if meant with feeling should have leveled him.

The point was made that he wouldn't have openly sworn if it was a set up given his wide box-office appeal.

One of the gems from it:

Q "Is this a diverse group and why do you think that is?"
A "Perhaps memebers of the LGBTQ+ and BAME communities have far more sense to spend at least 7 years at university to enter an industry where they're subjected to compulasry cobblers such as this."

What does the G stand for then? Is there a difference between 'gay' and 'queer'?

I've heard older LGB people feeling very upset at the use of 'Queer' by younger people. It seems a generational thing.

To some gay people it's still very much a slur whilst to others, mostly younger, it's reclaimed.

The best for me is that sometimes it's LGBTQIA+ where the A stands for asexual. That being the case, I should have been part of the community for most of my 20s.

Not mine but had to share.

In... west Philadelphia born n raised, Chris Rock decied to diss my wife on one of these days,
I was chillin’ out, maxin out, relaxin’ all cool, ‘Til Chris Rock had me at the Oscar’s actin’ a fool,
This one little guy, who was up to no good, started making jokes I didn't think he should
I gave gave him one little slap and Chris Rock got scared, yelled “get my wife’s name out ya ****in mouth”, there was silence in the air.
I got back up to the stage about 7 or 8 said thanks for the award and to my career “see ya later”
I looked out at the crowd, and my wife with no hair, as I sit at my throne as the prince of dead air.

I believe ‘queer’ is used by people to state that the ‘norms’ of ‘gay’ or ‘straight’ don’t apply to them or even for that matter ‘bi’. So basically, not straight, but not pigeonholed either (no that’s not a euphemism).

    It's very simple really. When a cis male / cis female / transgender / bigender/ agender / gender fluid / intersex / pan gender / two-spirit loves another cis male / cis female / transgender / bigender/ agender / gender fluid / intersex / pan gender / two-spirit...

Does all this mean we can now start using queer again as it's original intent (something is odd or strange)?

Yeah, I think this sums it up. Smith's reaction was understandable but probably not the time or place. Rock was a prat for making the joke.

My wife just had to have retina surgery and her eye looks shocking right now. If someone made fun of her appearance I'd probably be inclined to lamp them, so I do understand the reaction.
