Webb Simpson has had a brilliant year after a few years in the wilderness and could be worth a punt on top points scorer if he plays enough. I'm going to this but I have a feeling the US might win it. How come you choose the US to support?

[QUOTE="Wife is away so I'll be watching golf and football in my underpants all weekend![/QUOTE]

Your underpants must be very large (!) if you can get football and golf in them.

I'd love to be going, got tickets for the Open in Portrush in 2019 (nice and handy for me) plus went to the Open in 2010 at St Andrews and I've been to the last two Irish Opens. Have you been to watch golf live before? Its a perfect sport for TV viewing but I still prefer being there even if you do end up missing a lot!

Golf is a sport where there are very few players I dislike. Over the years though, the players I dislike tend to end up playing for the European ryder cup team, so I usually end up supporting the US as I find their players much more likeable. This year, the European team isn't as bad but I'm not a fan of Poulter, Garcia and Hatton. I would not be gutted to see the Europeans win though as McIlroy, Rahm, Rose and Fleetwood are among my favourite players.

Went to a Senior tour event at The Buckinghamshire a few years and went to Gleneagles 4 years ago but got a stomach bug and spent the day in the bushes at the back of the third hole being sick so hopefully I will get to see more golf this time. Can't say I dislike any golfers to be honest but I love the passion of Garcia and Poulter. At Gleneagles the only American who was like that was Patrick Reed and I think they need more of that in a team game especially when playing away. I think it's difficult to call with both teams having some weak players but also some at the top of their game. I'm just hoping it's a really tight match with it coming down to the singles with just a point or two in it. I do think they are just stronger than us but it is a team game and not about individuals. I do worry about Hatton and Oleson though as although USA have their weaker players as well they are the likes of Mickleson who on his day is still amongst the best.
    Can't wait

Yea he is widely disliked among golf fans, just as much so in the US. Quite entertaining to watch though so I don't mind him.

Wow, what a great performance from the European team this afternoon, winning every foursome match easily.

It would not be good if you'd jumped through hoops to get a grandstand seat on the 18th green, and then not see any golf!

Woods and Mickelson don't really enjoy the Ryder Cup do they ?

Never seem to do that well..

Fleetwood and Molinari seem to be a pretty good paring.

Totally with you on that one. The way Poulter treated the steward at the Scottish Open shows you what's behind the facade.
I have some close friends who are ridiculously into golf and they appear to hate Tiger Woods with a passion. I've asked them if it's because he cheated on his wife but no, it's because he spits on the course. Apparently that's a huge no no.

Never saw that afternoon coming. When I looked at the pairings it looked a lot stronger than the morning but 4-0 and easily 4-0 is astonishing. I would have taken 2-2 to keep us in it but I feared the tournament might be over after day 1. USA were awful though and can’t see them being that bad again. 4-4 tomorrow would do me so we have a lead going in to the singles

It takes some doing to be a more repulsive tic than Tom Daley Alli, so hats off to Patrick Reed!
    What an utter wonker.

Fitting Molinari got the winning point .

Little scare at the start but very convincing in the end .

I don’t really follow golf much. Is Patrick Reed just a Superbrat typical irritating American, or something worse?

Nor do I but I believe he cheated at his US college and had to find another one and seems to be the worst of a deeply unpleasant bunch.

I think he just has a big ego/mouth and likes to wind everyone up whereas most American golfers are pretty dull safe and show no emotion.

Amazing. Such a great sporting weekend. Loved the new angles that Sky showed of the play with wide angles and high up swoops of drives.

    Fair play Europe, completely deserved!

Majority of the US team were pretty awful and Furyk needs to take a large portion of the blame too. The decision to have Phil anywhere near this team, ahead of Xander Schauffele was a joke (probably was under pressure to pick Phil because of his reputation though).

    Not great.

The physical exertion entailed with golf is similar to mahjong.

Think Tiger Woods enjoyed that one showing lots of emotion at the end - very impressive against many of the top players in the world today.

The only black face I spotted at Augusta was that of Tiger Woods himself.

The US Open, normally the toughest major to win which is probably why the winner is normally one of the top players. Good start for Rory and Fleetwood. Had a few bets on this but my outsider was Kisner. -1 coming down the 9th, 3rd shot to five feet so has a short putt for a birdie 4. Takes bl00dy 7! 4 putts from 5 feet!!

    Not a surprise.

The locals have stopped wearing black face as it’s racially insensitive.

First major in the last 5 that I haven't bet on Xander Schauffele... Some start by him.

Didn't bet on anyone mind, had backed Woodland, Matsuyama and Xander in the PGA and all doing well this time round.
