Can't even be bothered to be angry about the club any more, so this picture sums my feelings up pretty well:
Jazz Odyssey. COGs can surely point to Tap’s subsequent Japanese renaissance following the charting of “Sex Farm”.
Cardiff haven't spent any money this summer so at least we've spent more than someone. You lot are so entitled, I'm giving this window a solid B.
Whilst I think we’re 2-3 players short and in real trouble if we get bad injuries, I am looking forward to seeing players who clearly have talent being given proper coaching and playing week in week out. I know people on here won’t agree but TBD, Kone, Andrew’s, Porteous, martins, Asprilla all have a lot of talent and it will nice to see how they improve over the season. It’s far better than signing short term solutions who won’t give a ****. edit - as a further thought, how many of Luton’s team from last year get in our first 11 on paper? Probably not many. For once seems like we’re prioritising the team over individuals.
I can't say I watched a whole lot of Luton last season so my knowledge may be lacking, but from what I do know and looking at their playoff final XI, I'd say Drameh, Nakamba, Morris, and Adebayo would likely walk in today.
So the majority of our first XI ("the worst we've seen in 10 years) is better than the XI of the 3rd best team last year? Think that rather supports @ForzaWatford's point that the Championship is as much about mentality and workrate as it is ability. I do agree that our mentality won't count for a lot against the likes of Southampton, especially if we get a few injuries, but I think it should see us steer clear of relegation, as long as everyone continues to buy into VI's thinking
Well, like I said, I really don't know about quite a few of their players, those were just the ones I do and stood out as clearly benefitting us in theoretical land. I don't doubt it's true that mentality and workrate are extremely important attributes in a Championship team; I'm not sure anyone would. I think they can still be rendered ineffective if the personnel are not correct, though, or indeed non-existent, and do not gel together in their system. I do also think the (potential) idea that we may have the same mentality and workrate as that Luton team is a tad premature based on the first four fixtures. It's hopeful at best, as it stands, and could go either way. Despite obviously being an improvement on the nadir of last season, of course.
I think you're mad if you're genuinely saying he wouldn't improve our centre forward ranks at this exact moment. That's not designed to be any great compliment.
I can only comment on the handful of games I've seen him play and in those he's done little to suggest he's any good. Then again all I've ever seen Morris do is fall over and appeal for freekicks (must be trying to catch sir eddies eye) so perhaps I've just seen the wrong games? They will both score tonight no doubt.
I don’t know how good they are technically but probably put themselves about and be very physical causing hassle and panic . Maybe like Darius Henderson was in our promotion season under Boothroyd.
Morris is a despicable creature, for sure, but sadly he was also the third topscorer in the league last season thanks to that fabled '20 goal' haul.
Agree with that but a winning mentality in the Championship isn't just being a good egg, turning up to training on time and following the coaches' instructions. You need a sprinkling of utter bastards throughout the squad who will grind out awkward 1-0 wins. We still have a squad full of nice guys or petulant losers. I think we'll regularly be bullied again this season, losing games we really shouldn't.
2/10. Good outgoings but really we're not in a better position to continue the rebuild as we don't have assets to get promoted or assets that will see us have a positive season to build on. Our best players are either on loan or likely to want better things. Hoedt won't do another season at this level, wouldn't surprise me if Porteous wanted out, Louza will want out, if Asprilla has a good season it won't be enough to take us up but enough to make him leave. Martins is on loan, Lewis is on loan. Kone is **** but will probably be off to Udinese anyway. We could start 24/25 with a core of Bayo, Kayembe, Bachmann, Andrews, Morris, Sierrelata, Sema, Ngakia, Ince, Livermore, Rajovic and Dele-Bashiru. Frightening prospect.
Yeah it does and I don’t really disagree with that. I’m not giving Gino credit, just pointing out that if we’re assessing the transfer window we probably have to zoom out a bit and consider other factors.
C- The outgoings were almost all positive and the ones that weren't were expected. The Incomings have been between whelming and underwhelming, with most being the latter.
Outgoings: B Incomings: D Finally the overhaul that has been 5 years+ coming, and for the first time in a decade, our squad isn't bloated with 'oh I forgot about him' or 'he'll be out on loan again' players. I don't think we got shafted in the transfer market and got decent fees for most of the players we got rid of. Keeping Louza/Asprilla shouldn't be taken for granted. However, a wasted opportunity with incomings. With the style of football the VI wants to play, I find it hard to believe we won't have an injury crisis at some point, and we don't have much (any?) proven quality to step in should that happen. CB and CDM in particular. Lewis was a good pickup, it's frustrating we weren't able to secure any other PL loans to bolster the squad. Georgi is the type of signing I want to see more of, low risk high potential, especially as a loan with a buy option. Healey and Rajovic it's too early to say. Livermore would have been fine as a backup and as a good character to help lead the squad, but as mentioned above, it's likely he'll be playing more than he should. Nothing wrong with picking up a player like Ince when available for next to nothing. Overall, a pretty meh window, but that's where we are now.
Managed to keep Kalu, Kayembe didn't end up at Udinese and we've added experience in Livermore. I might have to change my B to an A.
Well he wanted 2/3 of the players so cannot complain too much unless he thought we were going to get even more which I guess wasn't going to happen given he only wanted a certain sort of player to join.
A+ sensible signs of building something for the future. All incoming are quality and fit. This is the best squad I think I've seen at Watford under the Pozzos. Not in terms of quality or anything. Just the best in terms of unquantifiable and unqualitafiable non specific arbitrariness.
