With the national U20s, with all due respect to both Watford and Stoke (ie, next to none), those games are a little bit more meaningful lol
Hopefully we're learning our lesson on this front that it helps not to piss your own players off by blocking them going on international duty...
Spot on . Playing in the Under 20s World Cup. Good luck to him . https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...colombian-midfielder-heads-off-u20-world-cup/
As usual the ESL clubs have decided not to release players. While the likes of us and Brighton have (Buonnaotte for them). Real Madrid are holding a Brazilian, Argentine and Uruguayan hostage. Disgraceful club.
Wonder if we'd have released him if he was in the starting XI and we had something to play for though ?
Exactly. I'm fine with us releasing him as we've nothing to play for and it fosters good relations with his international setup. But if we were heading for the play-offs I'd absolutely expect us to refuse his release.
The tournament has always been held around this time after most leagues have finished but because of the Qatar World Cup seasons have ended a month later which overlaps the u20 tournament. Young players should just go. Some of the players being held back it's ridiculous. Nicolas Paz (ARG), Vinicius Tobias (BRZ) and Alvaro Rodriguez (URU) should all get on a flight together and get themselves to Buenos Aires. Promotion to the second tier of Spanish football or a World Cup even if it's only u20. I'd know where I'd go. So many top class players have cut their teeth on this their first experience of tournament football.
I'd have let them go. That's my opinion. But more and more it's club over country. Anyway had we a decent competent owner we would have already be over the horizon planning for next season. This was after all supposed to be a stroll in a piddling division.
Let him showcase anywhere possible including the u20 World Cup. Hope he plays so much better than he did in (or ever will) in the Championship, and then somebody buys him for Gino to cash in. I suspect that’s the immediate plan anyway.
None of the European Leagues would have finished by now in any season. Just looks like poor planning and if clubs have something to play for and these players are part of that team they absolutely should stop them going. They pay their wages and it's not the clubs fault some idiot decides to hold this while the leagues are still going. If we were going for promotion and Asprilla was a major part in that I would have been pretty annoyed if he had gone
He is very talented and potentially has a bright future but this might be a step too far... https://twitter.com/VoicesOfTheVic/status/1660223986393915393
Well it's now being reported in the press in Columbia. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.el...ion-y-lo-ve-el-Real-Madrid-20230525-0007.html
The Twitter/Youtube/Socials Watford Grift Industrial Complex is just utterly out of control at this point. Reams and reams, aeons, googolplexes of meaningless nothings and clearly made up rubbish expended on an incredibly narrowly supported basket case of a club from south Hertfordshire/deep north west London. Account after account after account claiming to speak for the fanbase, and farting out any old shyte - some genuinely true, some genuinely moronic. I'm taking this opportunity to announce the launch of my new podcast: 'My other team's a Watford', in which myself and my presenting partners humorously explore the travails of supporting the 25-30th biggest team in the country, with a hearty dose of banter and a promise to provide up to the minute transfer expertise and interviews with every one of the u-22s squad thrown into the mix. Find us now on Spotify, Acast, or wherever you get your podcasts from.
Suspect that is where the Watford Twitter thing got that rumour from. A Colombian newspaper badly translated ? The original article probably meant they were looking at Colombian players generally.
Scored a good goal as Colombia U20 spanked Slovakia U20 5-1 to set up a meeting with Italy in the QFs on Saturday night - 10pm UK time. Highlights can be found here: https://zingnews.vn/video-highlights-u20-colombia-5-1-slovakia-post1436093.html
Looks like he's having a good tournament and can clearly finish (despite what we've seen form him this season). He could be the magic dust for us to be a force this coming season, but all depends on whether a) he can handle tge physicality ofnteh championship bit better b) we can play in a way that gets the best out of him. If we are going very direct then that won't be the case.
I genuinely don't think the physical side of it is that big a deal for him. He's already shown he's more than happy to make the kind of disruptive fouls that Will Hughes specialised in and there was one moment towards the end of the season when he went shoulder to shoulder with a bigger defender and knocked them off the ball. I think the bigger things hindering him last season was end product (he missed a lot of chances and started to snatch at them so hopefully he's got that monkey off his back) and his passing being hindered by those around him. In the bits I've seen of him at his previous club and for Colombia he looks the kind of player who gets the ball, gives it, gets it back again and so on. We didn't really play that way (and may not under Ismael either...).
Asprilla called up by the senior Colombian squad Good luck to him. https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...s-colombian-midfielder-asprilla-senior-squad/
No idea of the source’s reliability but Brighton are supposedly interested. https://medium.com/@NoahReedBHAFC/e...rrently-playing-the-championship-6347cf662496
I believe he’s just changed agent judging by his Instagram activity. It won’t be this year unless we’re really broke but if we don’t go up it’ll definitely be next year. Still think he has a higher ceiling (ability wise) than Joao but needs Joao’s determination to make it and the upper body strengthening this summer that would really see him make leaps.
We got a lot of things wrong over Covid, but one good thing that happened was that it allowed JP to bulk up in preparation for a season at Championship level
According to twitter, Brighton are sniffing around - https://twitter.com/NoahReedBHAFC/status/1668355116443787286 Full article - https://medium.com/@NoahReedBHAFC/e...rrently-playing-the-championship-6347cf662496 Have no idea how reliable this guy is or if theres any truth to it but its a transfer rumour so thought i would share as there isnt much else going on.
This suggestion has been mentioned in his Team Bus thread, but unsurprisingly appears to be bollox - No(ide)ah Reed, more like.
And of course our fan rumour mill picks up on it and acts as if the story must be true so others panic. Guess that is Twitter /social media for you . https://twitter.com/WeAreWatfordFC/status/1668358933176627203
