Really? Seems pretty clear he's dodgy in some way or another. Just hope we've somehow managed to keep our hands relatively clean in our dealings with him. The image of him cosying up in the director's box with a Watford coat on won't help on that front...
I imagine lots of clubs do, where there is lots of money to be made people like Mogi appear. Only the truly greedy and dumbest get caught though. I imagine there are lots of ways to make lots of money in football and elsewhere without causing a stink big enough to get the authorities involved. Obviously a few investigators can be bought off if needed too. If it happens in politics you can bet your a$$ it happens everywhere.
Not Mogi though, we're the only English club to have used him as an agent since 2018. He may be a dodgy agent, but he's our dodgy agent! Kind of grown attached to the little scamp.
Well, from a purely footballing perspective, I'm glad we have. How else could we have signed the likes of Kalu, Bayo, Kayembe and pots Kamara?
Having watched another chaotic performance yesterday, particularly from Kamara, how desperate must we have been last year for something positive that we voted him Player of the Season?
Interestingly from the Legends vs Legends page in the wfc annual my kids picked up pregame, it transpires Luther never won player of the season. Kamara out ranks him ad a legend. Official.
Rosewall never won Wimbledon yet Stan Smith is still walking around in a bemused state due to Nastase handing him the '72 title.
Because he was the best of a tragic bunch of players who were hoplessly out of their depth at the top level managed by a circus of managers who all failed to motivate them. This season has been better though... Oh wait...
The guardian are on to Mogi now too - https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/apr/19/watford-mogi-bayat-football-agent
Nice to get an overview of the situation from a UK paper, without needing to translate and worry about mistranslations etc. From the look of it, it doesn't appear that we're likely to be in any serious trouble, or have technically done anything 'wrong'. But when you read "In June 2019 – a month after he was released on conditional bail in Belgium – a then director of the club’s holding company, Hornets Investment Ltd, helped Bayat to establish his business in the UK." it just makes you think why? Why continue to have such close dealings with such a clearly slimy (even by agent's standards) individual?
I think there are two angles to it: firstly, are we likely to get our collars felt by any authorities? Probably not (at least in the short term). But secondly, and a question more for the fans than the authorities - is this a responsible/decent way to run a football club?
Seems to be two categories of Bayat signings, the ones where he was actually the agent of the player (e.g. Kabasele, Oulare, Louza) and the ones where they already have an agent but for some mysterious reason we need to chuck a load of money at Mogi Bear to get the deal over the line whilst also paying their actual agent (Sarr, Sissoko etc). Best one I can remember was Samir from Udinese, who knows how we could've got him if we hadn't paid Mogi in addition as well as Samir's agent!
Which makes it even more unacceptable. Why is Mogi Bayat involved in transfers in which he is not representing the player? Is he representing the club? Does he have some other interest? What financial benefit is he receiving? I have no trust in the club to be ethical or transparent on this.
He is Gino's chum. He's akin to a used car salesman who get's a cut from a customer paying over the top for second rate car. Replace "car" with "player" and you get the idea. It just goes hand in hand with how we operate.
He also sells snake oil with Billy Graham's son. Pozzo must love this sort of stuff. Mogi often says give me £30000 or I am finished. Hell yeah and Satan has possessed my soul. Pozzo is the saviour and we poor COGs believe. Believe.
He'll be representing the club. And while the club doesn't have to be transparent about it, this is one of the few areas of football that has some degree of regulation and so there are published records about agents and the fees they get etc.
I mean I just did one quick search for 'Mogi' and this came up. I don't have the inclination to do more digging. That's your forte.
Ah so you just expect everyone else to accept the reality you've created for yourself where you haven't been consistently and arrogantly wrong about everything in every sense on here, whilst trying to act like some sort of smartypants. Guess we just will have to leave you to your own self discovery journey. Can lead a horse to water etc.
I mean, I've been pretty consistent that Mogi is clearly dodgy, while also saying the track record of his arrivals are a fairly similar hit rate to the non-Mogi signings we, or any other club make. Really not sure what you're trying to achieve with your 'gotcha' post, either. It's (currently) completely accurate. And as I've said, if we're guilty of wrongdoing, we deserve what we get.
Here you go. Onto the next made up/exaggerated thing to get annoyed at, I guess. For someone who spends so much precious time on a forum for a club he hates, surely you'd want to enjoy yourself more, rather than wind yourself up? Life is short.
Sure thing. You absolutely haven't spent the whole of this thread trying to act like some smug, supercilious know it all by down talking to everyone who called out our relationship with Mogo at the start of this chat. Not at all. Do you even know who you are?
Just an admission that no one has actually "vehemently and aggressively argued that Mogi has been good for us" would have done the job. Weird thing to lie about but like I say, if it makes you feel better, crack on. Guess not. Genuinely hope you get a sense of perspective at some point at how unhealthy this behaviour is, and where your priorities should be. Seize every moment, etc. All the best.
