Pretty comical that Hamer spectacularly dived and 'saved' a ball heading out for a gk in the first half, then stood there and watched that first goal of theirs sail in. I was sure Cov would get a winner. They were denied an absolute stonewall penalty.
Massive improvement. Glad to see Wilder making some good subs. Give him the armband. 5 more cup finals! COYH!
My fault as once I came in from work we were rubbish and lucky not to lose . Usual story of once we let one in all confidence and composure disappears . Coventry will feel aggrieved they didn’t get a penalty.
Cowards gonna coward. Coventry should have had two stonewall penalties as well. We're going down next season.
If we’d somehow undeservedly clung on we’d amazingly only have been 2 points from the playoffs as well.
Was fun when we were under a lot of pressure at 2-1 and he ran to the edge of the box and rolled it straight to their player. What a hoot that was!
The sun was out, the game had the feel of what was practically an end of season friendly - and for a while it seemed that was all that was needed for our bunch of fair-weather flair players to give us a brief reminder of what they're capable of. But as soon as the going started to get tough again this lot wilted as always. That was also a bit of a reminder to those calling to get rid of Bachmann, and saying that shot-stopping doesn't really matter, that things could be much worse. Not saying Bachmann's been great this season mind, but that was 10 minutes of the worst goalkeeping I've seen in a long time (from someone who's probably as bang average a Championship goalkeeper as you'll find). First his acting as if the ball's going wide for the goal, then him rolling it out to them for what should have been an equaliser a few minutes later. Porteous had a second half to forget. He's been worryingly error prone these last few games. Still has lots of potential mind, but now we need to add "not heading the ball straight to the opposition" to "not get easily sucked away from the man you're supposed to be marking in your over-eagerness to reach a ball you'll never get" to things he really needs to work on for next season. Andrews did fine for an 18 year-old making his league debut, but didn't really show what he could be capable of when he had the ball at his feet and kept on standing still once he'd received it then passing the ball backwards. Not saying that we shouldn't have played him mind, and with the season over we might as well give him a few more appearances before the end of the season in the hope he tries to be a bit braver in his play. Louza had some good moments going forward, but was non-existent when we had to defend. On the chance we decide to keep him for next season I do wonder if we shouldn't use him as a #10 instead, because he's just so easily bypassed. JP started well but faded. Sarr with his typical not being involved enough. Kamara brainless as always. Thank god we've already sold him for a sizeable fee! Araujo? I'll leave that for elsewhere.
Just don't know what to say anymore. Looked like Brazil for 10 minutes in that second half. Then just another disaster moment, what is Hamer doing? Then they stop playing any football and just collapse till the inevitable equaliser. Only after the equaliser did we start playing again, do we have a team of sadists? Just don't get it.
As soon as they started showboating at 2-0 up but with 35 minutes left to play we all knew what was going to happen. Very lucky to get a point in the end, no idea how that wasnt a pen against Kamara. In other news Foster pulled off an injury time pen save to secure a massive win for Wrexham against Notts County.
Well that has to be one of most Watfordy game I have seen all season. First half, total control - two good goals, deserved lead, Hamer domiant, Coventry hardly had a chance. Really good passion shown. Wilder told them to bottle it seond half. We obliged. Awful error from Hamer for the first and their second goal was not laughable defending. Assombolonga injured within ten minutes just sums us up in the fitness department. Why did Andrew's go off? Was he on a yellow card? Cathcart comes on and moments later it's 2-2. Poor second half, Coventry dominated after we started getting the "ollay's" from the show boating from Pedro and Co. Porteous was alright, but was pretty bad in parts. Sarr... what to say? Awful most of the game, stood away from a ball that was at a snail pace going past him, dreadful awareness from him all game, despite one or two good passes he checked out for most of the game as per usual. Coventry should of had a penalty maybe, hard to tell but yeah had they got it and scored it would it really of surprised us? We are so fragile on holding leads. We only beat Luton and Brum because we scored more than two goals. Kamara was dreadful as well. Pedro had a much better game, brilliant goal and if he does get a move away I wish him all the best for his future. Aruja was very poor today - which was disapointing. Andrews was very good. Him and Morris in place of Kamra is a definiate option next season. Wilder ballsed up that second half, either that or the players' just gave up as soon as Hamer's error let them back into the game. Six games left now. Cannot end quickly enough. Good point? Not really, should/could of lost second half. We still cannot hold onto a lead and that is part of the reason we are a midtable side, going nowhere.
Araujo was poor. Little flicks and runs etc all look nice but he’s a square peg in a round hole given our situation. I am convinced he’d look very good in a free-flowing side - and I also think he’s been incredibly unlucky to have been thrown in most of the time solo against teams that have 3 physical CB’s against him. But he’s just ridiculously unsuited to what we required in January. I find myself thinking that he could have been another Vydra type had we signed him in the summer and had a Deeney-level player alongside him. But we signed him in January and have Keinan Davis/Assombalonga. But the parameters for his lack of doing anything for us don’t just fall at ‘he’s crap’ - as that seems to be the route one poster will want to go down.
Hamer isn’t meant to actually ever have to play, Bachmann is garbage, a reserve keeper being even more garbage doesn’t change that. You realise it doesn’t have to be a straight choice between the two?
Porteous is costing us a lot of goals... in complete control of that game until he did that for the first goal.
4 points. We can add maths to the many other ways you demonstrate your... err... intellectual acumen.
Yup. No idea what he was trying to do. Booming header back up the pitch all day long and he tries to be clever with a cute cushioned header inside instead. Left the whole defence scrambled, not that that excuses Hamer's misjudgement either of course.
I don’t disagree with any of that but today he really was crap. Seemed to be utterly brain dead out there, decision making was awful and he didn’t apply himself correctly. Felt like playing with ten men for most of the second half, I’d have taken Ray Manaj over him today. Heck, I’d have taken Nicky Minaj at No.9 instead.
Yes Lowerous, sorry I was looking at the BBC live table while we were winning and hadn’t refreshed it. You win the title of internet points scorer today, your shiny medal is in the post.
Yeah, my point was more an overall assessment. As I said at the start of my post, he was poor today. And I was being kind with my wording!
Not excusing Hamer as I’m a believer in a GK getting the ball if he can regardless of where he thinks it’s going…. But the bloke who scored it was interviewed after and seemed to heavily suggest the wind properly got hold of the ball after he’d hit it and he was shocked it went in. Maybe the camera angles didn’t do it justice? But either way, he could have just dived.
