Personally I'd have gone for Jake Clarke-Salter, he seemed to tick all the boxes, but since he's off the menu, I'd settle for Clarke. Sure he's not perfect, but who is?
That is odd now you say it. However, on the flip side, they are more likely to be described as being one footed. It’s feetist, but it’s feetist both sides.
I'm fascinated by this Tom. Even at a very young age kids who kick with their left foot do seem to hit the ball more cleanly. I have no idea why this is? Put it another way, it's unusual to see a left footed player 'scuff' the ball as so many right footed players do...cue loads of examples to prove me wrong, haha!
It's the same in other sports too I think. Gower,Laver,JPM,Martina, Mickelson too so I'm told by golfers. An endless list of fluent lefties, disproportionate to the population 1/12. Mind you as Andrew63 suggests, many were made to be right handed due to the witchcraft association. Rosewall and Mo Connolly most notably. Neither served well.
You're mum is a good judge! I've been fortunate to play with two excellent lefties. It's the serve that is usually so fluid. Ball up,knee bend, smack it. Nothing unnecessary. Simple mechanics. The most irritating thing is... I'm left-handed,left footed .... I have no idea why my Dad didn't make me play that way. Bit late now!
Sounds like we made a bid but was rejected as being too low basically and by quite a way . https://theathletic.com/3512627/2022/08/19/brighton-transfers-clarke-andone/
They signed him for £3m, wanted a decent chunk of that back and we still fell well short of their valuation? F*cking pathetic. Glad Gino managed to pull £5m out of his arse for Bayo though.
They’re looking to recoup most of the £3m that they paid, surely we’ve got to make another bid that matches it… a left footed English CB is worth at least £2m even if they’re bang average, and if he’s fantastic then he could be worth 10 times that in a couple of seasons. The reluctance to invest a penny in defenders is ridiculous when you think of the fees that some could be sold on for- £85m for Maguire, £50m for Ben White, £50m+ for Cucurella..the idea that there isn’t any return on defenders is laughable
Maybe we're just really poor with numbers. £300k for Clarke... Decimal point in the wrong place again? If Giaretta thought we'd offered £500k for Bayo it would explain a lot.
No, seriously, is it actually going to end up the case that Poxbury refuses to pay less than £3m for a centre back probably considered one of the best in the division and capable of playing at a higher level, who's still only 25 years old, and who fits the profile pretty damn well of a role we desperately need to fill?
I’ve said this before but it’s outdated to view defenders the way we still do. Years ago number 9s went for way more then any position but now players in all positions can go for similar amounts and things have equalised somewhat. A keeper can cost as much as anyone three days.
Must me the only Italians involved in football who don’t seem to have a liking for investing in defenders !? Sure a couple of million would do it ..
As long as we get the Hause deal over the line, I don't think there's much reason to give a **** that we didn't sign Clarke, I don't think there's too much between the two of them
Refusing to pay decent money for decent CBs is the reason we're in the situation we're in today. Please learn, and just bite the bullet! I got that strategy 6/7 years ago but there's value in defenders now. Especially HG.
