Forest have just announced Kouyate as well. What is that, their 14/15th player this window? Sounds like they are close to signing 2 more players as well. They are either going to survive comfortably or this is going to be a train wreck season. They must have spent over £100mil now?

Forest are going to be utterly screwed if they come right back down.

At times last season he was a joy to watch and I genuinely thought we’d struck gold in terms of the calibre of player for that transfer fee.

Sadly he couldn’t maintain the form (to be fair I think most would have struggled in our insufferable side last term) and whilst he appeared to offer more than most of his fellow squad members to the very end, it’s clear he’s also capable of being totally anonymous per Hawthornes last Monday night.

Here for a good time, not a long time. All the best to him.

As for why Forest are announcing it at that time… it’s probably taken all day to cut that video together. Cringe.

Not if their owner can just afford to write these sums off and still plough more funds in.

Most of their signings do seem sensible in that their value shouldn't depreciate, so as long as there are suitors, they shouldn't have too much issue recouping most of what they have spent. However, they would need to rebuild a whole new team once again.

Interesting that Awoniyi (£17m) was announced as a club record signing and Dennis wasn't. So perhaps it wasn't £20m?

I'm pretty sure clubs arbitrarily use the term 'record signing' for PR purposes. Isaac Success was never referred to as a club record signing for us but all accounts would suggest he was.

Burnsy said it was £15m initially, with £5m in bonuses that could realistically be achieved this season, plus £2m for Brugges, and a sell-on fee, so it probably doesn't register as a record yet

    From the Mail:

Dennis the menace seals his exit
It would be fair to say not too many tears were shed at Vicarage Road when Emmanuel Dennis' move to Nottingham Forest was confirmed.

There is a distinct feeling at Watford that the dressing room will be a far more harmonious place without Dennis, with several of the players openly celebrating his departure.

Translation: There is a distinct feeling at Watford that the club hierarchy need to get yet another story into the Daily Mail about disharmony amongst the playing squad to spin something to make them look better.

I think what we got for him was about par and not too bad, he’s not homegrown and he’s inconsistent. I don’t think we needed to throw him under the bus in the Mail like we do with every manager before they’re sacked to try and make the deal look better.

Why would we need to make the deal look better? We all knew he was going, the price is about what we expected.

Not beyond the realms of possibility that he wasn’t the greatest influence around the side

Of course it’s possible that the Mail could’ve just made it up, but just before we’re about to sack a manager a piece normally appears in the Mail about the players being unhappy and thus laying the groundwork for it.

You have to ask yourself where this info came from, and why?

We always apparently have bad influences in the dressing room, season after season, yet we constantly still keep having them, apparently anyway.

    Oh dear.
Well given the number of players Forest have it'll take him approximately 27 years to upset all of them.
More if they keep splashing the cash.

More likely that they are speculating based on some of his previous behaviour, I reckon. The Mail is possibly the worst ****-rag in this country. That's no mean feat!

I'm intrigued to see how he gets on given he was occasionally a glimmer of excitement in a Watford squad who delivered the worst season in our history. He clearly has talent but he didn't turn up from January onwards, and his performance against WBA was woeful.

If they can get him performing consistently then it'll be a good signing. I have no doubt he will start well.

It's pretty obvious he was an obnoxious ****, the best players often are. But if you're a good manager, you can handle the situation

For example, in the twilight of my stellar football career I played for a team clearly beneath my ability and I was a right moody teat on and off the pitch, constantly moaning at team mates and hogging the ball, but what were they going to do about it? I was banging in the goals and bringing them previously unimaginable success.

Of course, as a shower of obese swines who always got picked last in the playground you people cannot relate to this, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

Agree, we did really well out of him, 10 PL goals and around 7 times profit on initial outlay, he is going to have to go some to achieve that at Forest!

Word gets round quick in football. We had been told he's a bit of a nob before signing him, then there were rumours he was a nob last season, then Moyes gets told he's a nob, then there's this bit in the press saying he's a bit of a nob.

    Possible he's a nob

From the training videos and pictures, as well as from the post match interviews and social media interactions, I didn't get the impression that he was disliked by his teammates. I know that doesn't have to mean anything and he may be extremely unpopular, but this is our only source material.

This sounds very much like seeing a player with a previous reputation has moved on within a year and putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5.

A player with a poor attitude, whose teammates didn’t like him, but somehow was picked every week by every manager, including the new one, and has increased his value by £17m in one season - and his new club haven’t found anything to detract from signing him either.

Yeah. I don’t buy that article.

Well it’s the Mail, so doubtless they have made some of it up.

However, it’s not hard to believe that the only player not taking the knee in a largely black team, a highly selfish one at that, wasn’t the most popular player within the squad. He clearly wanted to stand apart and that’s been the case at other times in his career.

Has he been a success at and for Watford though? Hell yes.
