Oh, of course it's going to be a far worse deal than first reported. I forgot who our owners are for a second. £15m is poor.
Exactly and because there’s a sell-on with this deal, the true fee is bound to be published. I believe it’s likely to be £15m up front and basic add-ons bumping it up to £20m. Could even be a little bonus on top if Forest stay up.
Anyway, most places I can see on Twitter are saying £20m still. The Daily Mail usually pretty accurate when it comes to us and saying £20m as little as an hour ago.
The Forest end will report £15m, Watford end will report £20m+. It will be how you interpret it - instalments, which add-ons are activated and so on.
Look at comparable fees this summer - £15m for a player with as many PL goal contributions as him last season isn’t decent business. What he cost us is largely irrelevant in that equation. Forest won’t have come to us and said ‘his record last season was fantastic - but he only cost you £3m so you’re making tidy profit’. As a matter of purely finances then yes, it’s a £12m profit (less once you factor in wages etc) - but if City sold Foden for £20m…that’s £20m profit. But it would be a horrendous deal. £20m rising to £25m is about right in todays market for what he achieved last season. Any less than that is a poor deal. That said, I do wonder if Forest have used Keinan Davis as leverage somehow to get Dennis on preferable terms.
I get all that, however, you're looking at it purely from a footballing perspective whereas I am trying to look at the bigger picture of how finance and negotiations work. Different story if we have 2 or 3 other clubs in for him with offers, but we don't, so we are where we are with it. My point was the club have to make a decision to stick or twist. Anyway, i've seen far more articles saying £20m than £15m.
Okay, but finance doesn’t work very well if you sell things for cheaper than their worth. I do take your points - I accept you’re trying to look at mitigating circumstances - but a lot of them are hypotheticals. We don’t know if there’s been other interest - there’s been plenty of clubs linked who could have been biding their time. Chat about him downing tools or kicking off seems to be wide of the mark too. Personally I think it’s best to just view it as it is - is the player worth more than £15m? Because considering anything else is largely guesswork.
Good luck to him. Was decent for us and without him we'd have stood no chance last year. Can't complain about the profit we have made on him. We still need another CM, RB and CB in my opinion so hope that money goes there. Maybe another striker too.
Supposedly reports coming out of Nigeria that Dennis is being forced to join Forest. Apparently he doesn’t want to leave but we’re making him. Doubt this is true.
Not bothered about Dennis leaving one bit. In the 2 games he started I couldn’t help feel he was being Billy big ******** and under estimating the opposition. Trying tricks, flicks and just general ******* about. I would be more than happy for Hungbo to come in hopefully kick on from his successful loan up north. Alternatively, Pedro to move out wide and new forward recruit to feature. I just can’t fathom why we have brought in 2 (soon to be 3) strikers?
Fair to say that, WHU & Everton, that were allegedly in talks with him back in May didn't fancy him because they wouldn't be leaving it so late in the day (mid August) to make an offer (plus they've signed other players to cover his position). We've been told it's the only offer we've received for Dennis. I would be amazed if this isn't true. I don't understand this £15m nonsense. Lord Leventhal has just confirmed it's £20m (€24m) and he's having the medical today. As for 'downing tools', yes, that's all hypothetical, hence I was saying the club has a decision to make if they received a bid that didn't meet their valuation. However, it seems the offer has met our valuation hence he's going. No one can deny he has a chequered past. I don't hold that against him by the way, everyone is entitled to a fresh start, but if you're Duxbury or Gino (who, by the way, I don't like) it's a choice you'd have to make, do you want £10m+ profit on a player that doesn't want to stay in the Championship or do you accept the deal and move on!? It's not as easy as everyone makes out. This isn't football Manager lol.
This is it. Brugges let him go cheaply for a reason. Clearly very talented, but watching him on the pitch and, particularly, reading about him, he isn't nuts - but he's halfway there. He's so full of himself it is painful to watch. A loose cannon. Shame, because in terms of absolute ability he is an exciting watch.
I don't get how they aren't playing Cafu, I know he's pushing on a bit but he is one of the greatest right backs of all time.
I don't know why I seem to be the only one who thinks Manaj will come good! Sent from my AUM-L29 using Tapatalk
You've never heard of Dennis before we signed him? You gotta be kidding me! Sent from my AUM-L29 using Tapatalk
Seconded. If he wants to see knife crime and fat mouthbreathers with tattooed calf’s he can pop down the road to Luton.
