Don't really think it affects this deal too much, if Laird needs games, he needs games (plus Wan-Bissaka is definitely not the same kind of flying full-back)
Yeah I think Laird and Wan Bissaka will leave and they'll bring in someone as competition for Dalot. No doubt overpaying for some bang average todd.
Norton-Cuffy has signed his new deal at Arsenal and could be heading out on loan to the Championship. Wouldn't be a bad replacement if this has fallen through.
Is this people speculating as Preston have said they're close to bringing in a right wing back on loan or is there something more concrete?
Mogi found out that Scott was cheating on him with Manchester United and has demanded an explanation. Scott now needs to make a grand romantic gesture. 35 year old Belgian journeyman incoming.
If you look at how Edwards used his wing backs last season then I fail to see how Gaspar is the right profile, despite him being a very good player. Edwards also made a point of saying he wasn't a 'flyer' in his press conference when talking about Gaspar. It seems pretty obvious to me that he wants serious pace in the wide areas which Laird would give us. That's why you're probably right that he'll get Gaspar and have to make do.
If Sarr stays, it’s unlikely Laird would be preferred over Gaspar anyway I suspect. That may be playing into the thinking here. United will likely be making demands about how much football their kids get of sent out on loan - if we can’t make those assurances, stands to reason they would send them to a club that will.
Maybe a prem club is showing interest ? Maybe he's stalling over signing his new deal (not sure if he's signed it yet ?). Might be seeking assurances that he isn't sent to us
Wouldn’t take too much notice of what this guy says - he’s as miserable as Uncle Ron and Nath rolled into one. Tried claiming Gaspar isn’t a RWB the other day despite that being where he literally plays. The thing about the LCB is nonsense. And Laird could end up at Preston. But its far more likely that United would rather send him there knowing he will play every game. Our recruitment team is woeful - we know this. But not EVERYTHING is as black and white as some of these twitter guys like to think.
Was that the guy who had it on good authority that Edwards was fuming that Samir was being sold without his permission?
I believe that tbf. Edwards played him in the friendlies, where (against Panathinaikos at least) he was the only defender who could pass forwards, then decides ‘actually I’d rather play Cathcart there’? Doesn’t add up.
Do you know differently? Why would Edwards have wanted our best centre back and our only left footed one gone? Oh yeah rule of 11/he wood of down tools
I'm hearing this was a done deal but Edwards met him in a Cafe Nero and didn't like the cut of his jib.
Apparently it wasn't wantaway Samir being sold that upset Rob, although I can understand his frustration that no replacement seems to be forthcoming
Oh look, called it last Friday. Was bleedin obvious the deal was dead. Only part I predicted wrong was him staying at United. I really don’t know what Giaretta does. He is completely and utterly useless. Worse, way worse than Giraldi. We will go nowhere with him around.
Where’s this been confirmed? Disappointing if so, not sure what other options there are. We need dynamic wing backs - I believe we have a left sided one (just need to see him played there now)
Called what? Nothing is confirmed? Any reports are coming from the Preston manager saying he wants a RWB and Watford fans are getting carried away so far.
He ain’t coming mate. Deal is dead. We clearly fecked him and his agent about and they said feck this. I can just imagine Giaretta telling him, yes we want you, however you need to understand something, even though you’re exactly what Rob wants, we may be signing a Superstar RWB from the Belgium league for £8mil, so your place is basically on the bench. So here’s the contract, go ahead sign on the line if you want to.
Let's wait and see eh? There could be any number of reasons why it's not done yet. United clearly have business to do and we could well be waiting on them completing that before they release him to make a move. If he goes elsewhere, then by all means, criticise. But there's no suggestion at all that a deal is dead, or that we messed him and his agent around. Pure supposition. Likewise, if United or the player are demanding a guarantee of first team games, then stands to reason why we would back away - we simply shouldn't be making such promises. United could also be using Laird to drive us down on a deal for Sarr as that interest has been mooted again today. There are any number of reasons why a move hasn't happened yet so lets just chill out for a week or so and see what happens!
We are just utterly useless in every way, aren't we? Even if this does go through, we've still managed to drag it out for WEEKS and somehow effectively left ourselves missing a key component of the system for the start of the season.
