I'm not going to pretend to know much about Manning or Edwards.....and it does look like we're heading towards Edwards right now. I have seen Forest Green live this season, when they lost 3-2 to St Albans and of course, just on that game, I didn't think much of them. So, for me, getting a manager/head coach like this would represent a huge gamble, but probably no greater than the gamble they took when they hired Munoz.

But, if they are going to have a bit of a clear out in terms of talent in the squad, which is likely to be the case, then the squad he'll inherit will not be as strong as the one Munoz had.

However, I'm hoping they will add a few other things such as bringing Jackett back maybe in a director of football role. He's a good football guy and knows the traditions of the club. In a senior position, he could really set the tone of the club and be some type of figurehead who is trusted. Also, maybe get Eustace as Edwards' assistant. If he's not going to get the big job at QPR, and it looks like that could be the case, then why not switch to Watford as a number 2, being groomed as a number one. As things stand, Watford are probably a little higher up the food chain than QPR, so I think it would be a sensible switch for him.

If those things happened, I could certainly get behind something like that.

That would be a great set up - exciting new young British manager, a clear succession plan and Jackett to bring some decency and knowledge to the boardroom.

However, I suspect we still won't have appointed anyone by July and end up with Luigi Parmesan from a mid table Serie C club.

A dodgy start to next season and the pressure will be on straight away !

    Talks with Eustace have ended.

Rob Edwards now clear favourite and in advanced talks.

(Can someone put this article in the safe if possible? - and the other one about how we should all respect Hodgson?)

Now back him Gino. Pointless if we bring him and then don't get the necessary players to suit his style. Those who are more clued up on FGR, which of our current players fit his style and what positions would we need to focus on bringing in?

Good decision from the club, now they need to back him. I'll believe it when I see it.

The club will blame the Royal Mail for not delivering their letter of intent to speak to Rob Edwards in good time.

Seem to be going from unknown overseas guy with experience (Ivic ) , one without experience (Munoz ) , well known experienced coaches either from overseas and here to young British manager .

One will work out long term one day ..

As good as we can hope for. Hope that the club give him time - but expecting a rinse and repeat

You saying he’s not easy on the eye? I think he’s quite a dish, by the looks of the headshot above

Mind you, that would be quite believable actually ;)

I have a close friend who knows Edwards and has met and interviewed him several times. He is very impressed by him. I've been watching a few media interviews he's done and he's a world away from Hodgson. Engaging, friendly, eloquent. While the jury will remain out for now as to whether it's a good footballing appointment (tbc) , I like what I see of him as a person and communicator. A breath of fresh air for sure.

Maybe I'm just naive but I can't imagine he'd leave FGR to join us unless he was fairly sure he'd been given certain assurances by our owner. Otherwise the move would make little sense.

Good to know we turned to him after we were unable to secure our target of *checks notes* an assistant at QPR who has no football league experience as a manager who also has strong historic ties to our club :)

I just realised that Edwards worked with Jackett at Wolves, and values him highly. I think Jackett coming back could certainly be something that might actually happen.

Some of that could well have been because Forest Green just eased up towards the end of the season after they'd basically already secured promotion, they were miles ahead of the rest for a long time.

Also, although FGR were "on the up" looking at their forum at the start of the season most still weren't expecting them to go up automatically. Edwards seems to have slightly exceeded the FGR fans' pre-season expectations to a similar degree to how Manning performed relative to MK Dons fans' pre-season expectations.

I don’t really see the point though. These young coaches don’t seem to rely on ‘older’ hands helping them these days. Plus Jackett’s recent body of work is poor to say the least.

Probably sacrilege to say round here - but I wouldn’t go near him.

I don't think there's too much between Eustace, Manning and Edwards, but from the small amount I can make out I'm pleased that we're getting Edwards out of the three. He seems to have his team playing the most positive and energetic football of the three and I think that will help endear him to the fans a bit more than the others.

I don’t have an issue with this, we’ve done well with the likes of Aidy, Dyche, Rodgers and Malky before who had never managed, this guy has actually managed and done well.

But we can’t just appoint this guy and carry on doing the same things elsewhere. The recruitment needs to change and he needs to be able to have a bad patch and survive it.

I think he'll bring Ritchie Kyle with him as his number two. I'm thinking Jackett in a more senior role as a Director of Football.

Do you think it will though ?

Or slow start and he’ll be gone if the Pozzos expect a promotion push .

    Exactly.

And what kind of bizarre name is ‘Rob Edwards’? Why isn’t he called Xavier, Fabio or Bartholemy like any normal person involved with soccerball?
