Plus he kept to his word and bought the players a pizza after every clean sheet.

I was talking to my next door neighbour earlier and I told him I was glad I’d caught because I noticed a fence at the far end of the garden was damaged and we’ve got a bloke coming to look at it, might need to get in his garden. Also checked with him that nothing had bled through when I’d sprayed the fence too.

He said; ‘When you’re 82 you stop giving a **** about these things, crack on mate’

Made me think of Roy propped up in the dugout with his shades on the other week. He doesn’t give a ****, just glad to be out of the house with the sun on his face.

A shame. You started off by making some fair points, in a fairly measured way. As people here have challenged you about the comments, in an equally reasonable way, you’ve become increasingly tetchy and unpersuasive.

Yes great, but he gives a very strong impression that he doesn't give a **** about Watford.

Let’s be honest if Palace or any other team had the run we have had the manager(s) wouldn’t be very popular .

Of course there are no excuses for personal comments on people but don’t think there has been on here compared to Twitter for example but he will get criticised for his record here .

And certainly Hodgson isn’t singled out as the only one to blame at .

He didn’t help himself yesterday by basically admitting he couldn’t see the away fans so didn’t acknowledge them.
Don’t think anyone is saying he should have sprinted on arms up in the air..

I mean being a Palace fan and long term manager Roy should know where the visiting fans are !

Thanks for taking the time to write this. You clearly know and understand Hodgson a lot better than any Watford fan.

But why is that?? How many of the plethora of clubs he's managed in his incredibly long career did he not give a **** about? His experience of working in the Pozzbury structure was so bad that in just a few short months he already hated being here. He's proved himself highly skilled at turning small PL clubs into mid table sides on a tight budget. Yet at Watford he quickly became completely useless. Do u seriously believe it was Hodgson's fault and not the club hierarchy, after everything u know about how they operate and how the club is run????? What has happened to Roy Hodgson at Watford makes an incredibly strong case for the prosecution.

Why the **** would any Watford fan care about Roy Hodgson now, let alone want to 'understand' him? He's an ar$ehole, end of.

Because the fact our club turned a great manager of small PL clubs into a total car crash in the space of a few months tells us everything we need to know about how our club is run.

It also tell us he's a geriatric old fart who's long since past his best and who hasn't given a single **** since the second he arrived.

It's not one or the other. The club is a shambles from top to bottom and Hodgson is a dinosaur who's done an appalling job, in part because he clearly doesn't care whatsoever, resents our fans and came here purely to make his final few hundred thousand before disappearing back into retirement and pretending it never happened.

    Both are true.

Roy Hodgson gave Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Tyrick Mitchell & Brandon Pierrick their Premier League debuts. As I said, that averages to an academy player per (full) season at Palace. That is a good ratio by anyones standards. Let alone a team whose first priority is survival. So, as per usual with Roy, the lazy cliches don't actually hold up to facts.

We’re talking about this season and Watford though.

No one cares what he did at Palace or anywhere else atm.

Good for you that those 2/3 have come through (Man U fans probably wondering how AWB cost 50 million hough!?)

Maybe in time people will asses his career fully .

We've just got relegated so comments about anyone at the club are hardly going to be positive.

Much like they wouldn't be at Palace if you had 22 points, lost 11 in a row at home and lost 25 games.

Prehaps he will give a young player a run out in the next few games.

Problem is we don’t have any youngsters of that quality to blood. Our promising youngsters are littering the benches of champ and league 1. They will never be good enough to play for our first XI let alone Man U in a few seasons.

We're all acutely aware that the problems at the club are far bigger than Hodgson.

But he has been an utter failure. He's been a cowardly manager, never rolling the dice even in must win games. He's publicly undermined the squad from very early on in his reign, he's been condescending towards journalists who politely asked him perfectly reasonable questions, he's been disrespectful to the fans on multiple occasions and he quite openly just gave up even when we could've stayed up.

He's had a long career so of course he will have had some successes earlier on it but that doesn't mean he's a good manager now. He's not, he's a cantankerous old git who came here for a final payday and quickly sucked any modicum of hope out of the club. His tactics and behaviour from the off were exactly what you would've done if you wanted to guarantee relegation.

There are huge problems at the club, and no one thing is to blame for our malaise.

However, the facts remain that in the midst of all this chaos (and closed stadia too), an unknown manager with less than a dozen games experience behind him managed to get us promoted. Got everybody pulling together. And generally with smiles on their faces too.

The facts also remain that our latest incumbent, despite all his many years of experience and occasional successes too along the way, has had exactly the opposite effect.

It’s quite right to blame lots of other factors, but to exonerate Hodgson implies nobody could succeed at our club, whereas recent history suggests the opposite.

Knowing when to leave is an art.
Hodgson was shown the door at Palace and was apparently not overly happy about it.
He couldn't resist the extra cash, didn't comprehend the gravity of the situation ( thanks Godley and Creme) and has gradually become more unpleasant, rude and hapless.
I am considering changing my username to "I Still Blame Bassett But Dislike Hodgson More".
    Snappy eh?!

I agree with much of this but I don't think it's correct to say he"came here for a final payday", even though it might look like that now. He will have thought he had a shot at keeping us up but his method depended on our forward players performing well to take advantage of a more solid defence. Unfortunately their form, or will to succeed, fell off a cliff.
The only positive of his time is that he did mostly improve the away form. The display at Villa was what he was looking for and some others, like West Ham could easily have followed with a similar result on another day. However the home games killed us because he was unable to encourage a more positive approach to those games except for very short periods.

There’s plenty of comments out there from Palace players that suggest he doesn’t even coach the forward players - and he just sends them out hoping for the best. He doesn’t coach attacking patterns of play.

I don’t think he initially came for a payday. But I think it’s increasingly turned into exactly that because there’s been a complete lack of care or attention to his job for a number of weeks now.

Been told this morning that Roy Hodgson was "surprised" by the attitude of the #WatfordFC squad during his tenure. He felt, in that respect, it was the worst squad he's ever dealt with during his career.

What more does he have to do or say to get sacked? Seriously, what is the point in keeping him in his position?

The more we learn, the more rancid our club appears.

I mean, many of us speculated as much for years and were shouted down by COGs, but evidence is mounting about the absolute state of our squad, hierarchy and the club as a whole. But still there are clapping seals on twitter and Facebook enjoying their big days out and looking forward to an English manager next season who will somehow, with both hands tied behind their back, winkle a decent team out of whatever **** they are left with.

    COYH!

I agree with the Palace fan that we should be showing Roy more respect. To this end, can I ask that from now on contributors at least address this likeable old gentleman in the correct manner when posting comments about him?

For example, 'F**k off out of our club Roy Hodgson CBE, you senile old c**t'.

    Many thanks

I think he’ll see out the remaining games, because rather pathetically, as we have nothing to gain now by sacking him, they’ll see it as a chance to avoid further damage to their reputation.

Playing devils advocate somewhat, I suppose it could be argued that by not getting rid of RH until the end of his agreed period could be seen as the first step towards us no longer being the hiring and firing club that many of us want us to avoid being.

I think it’s more likely the reason is he’ll be a shield Scott and Gino can hide behind. Everyone will vent against Hodgson on Weds, giving Duxbury an easier ride.

It's not black and white though is it? He may be correct, but he's a professional, paid to deliver results. The way Roy has carried himself it seems very much as though he saw how **** our squad was and thought '**** it, I'll just piss about for a few weeks.'

He's offered nothing to try and counter the issues himself as if he has no role at all in proceedings.

And also presumably means no compensation (however minimal) has to be paid.

I can't see the value to Gino and SD of doing it, really. I suppose it might get the fans onside - but when have they ever cared about that?

Did it not occur to u that he's telling tbe truth? As fans we need to know this. Roy is shining a light on the train wreck Duxbury has created at this club. Don't shoot the messenger.

I believe Roy and I appreciate his honesty and frankness, its not something I experience often from the club or its clapping seal supporter committee.

Just stop and think about it, a manager with one of the longest managerial careers in football history, who's managed all over the world, says our players have the worst attitude of any club he's ever managed!!!

Instead of bashing Roy u should be asking yourself why this is the case, who is to blame and how we can resolve this terrible situation.

Do u seriously believe Hodgson is in any way responsible for the horrendous stewardship of our club, the toxic management structure and the unmanageable dressing room !??!?
