You see the opinion that people would kick their dog to death in a trade-off to earn an Everton relegation a lot?
The only other time I remember wanting Watford to lose a game before it kicked off was during the dying embers of Boothroyd's reign when it was clear as day he had nothing left to give. This is the first time since then I genuinely want us to lose to give Burnley a better chance of staying up and help to relegate Everton.
There's a saying in Cricket when you're 12-4 after 15 of 50 overs chasing 290 and the team is feeling like you've lost. "Good game to win". Theres no reason we can't beat Everton and Burnley and be within a game of safety. Super unlikely we stay up, but it would be pretty good if we did from here.
Well played Sir! Your comedy and heartfelt sentiment have cured me of my serial lurking habit. I just had to register to record my profound amusement. Oh ... and 1984 still hurts.
If we lose tomorrow we go 12 points behind Burnley with 4 games to go with a significantly worse goal difference of 20. The nightmare is nearly over! Be interesting to see how the poddies and Shytebury spin it
Not entirely sure it's gone to the point of wanting to lose. Beat Burnley and Palace (not impossible) and we go into the Everton game maybe 3 points from safety. Not for a moment do I think this will happen but I dont understand going into the game wanting to lose. People were happy Brentford scored a late winner - more so than had Louza scored a minute earlier.
Can't speak for others and as I'm going to spend the best part of 4hrs on the road tomorrow driving to and from Watford I'd like to see us win. But the idea that we're only behind the par score and a couple of wins will somehow propel us back into borderline contention is pretty fanciful. We're completely kaput. At best tomorrow decides if we officially go down v Palace or limp on to potentially it being decided v Everton.
The good game to win was against Norwich. Or Burnley. Or Brighton. Or Palace. Or Leeds. Or Brentford. The team has failed to turn up for so many 'winnable' games, it's hilarious that people think we're suddenly going to turn up for the next three.
Fanciful but not impossible. I don't and I don't think any do. I think at the end of the season we'll look back and think how simple it would have been to survive.
I too have a longish trip, not so bad as you UEA, I come up from Hampshire. Sadly, you're right but I do hope there are a couple of changes on the teamsheet just to try something different.
Just look at Newcastle now. Since they were looking terrible halfway through the season they have only really signed two significantly upgraded players, one of whom has been injured most of the time since, and yet they are now mid-table. They showed it could be done but Watford just didn't do it.
Says a lot that a lot of us genuinely would not mind if Burnley win if it meant Everton went down. Never been so apathetic about this club. But I'll be desperate for us to win when the Toffees come to town.
Everton have got Chelsea next haven't they? That's almost a nailed on loss right there. I actually think we might draw tomorrow, which still relegates us regardless. Winning will just mean we have to endure another week of being a PL team in a season people just want to end.
Ray was doing the pre-match interviews, as Roy was ill. I really liked what he said and the way he said it. Worth watching if you get a chance.
