But if he's broken the law he'd have failed to uphold the standards laid down in the ministerial code, so he can wriggle all he likes, but he'd still be toast. I think. If that is the case, I just don't get why someone doesn't put an arm around his shoulder and tell him quietly that the games up
The think you underestimate the ability of the "******s" at the MET to fudge this and protect their political masters. I wouldn't be surprised if there is an "insufficient evidence" that the laws in place at the time were breached outcome. Also, the MET do not make the details of fixed penalties public. He may be fined but we may never know. You are right, if he is found to be in breach of the law he should, if he has any integrity or decency, resign. But I think you can see the problem with that statement.
So rather than be seen to go of his own accord and rescue a little dignity for himself and his party, he's going to have to be dragged off by the rozzers?! Ha ha! I agree that, on the face of it, there isn't much in the way of talent waiting to take his place but, even so...
Oh no, there is another way, which is some highly enjoyable bloodletting within the Party when the struggle commences to get him out.
I can't help thinking back to the site of Plod patrolling parks to make sure people hadn't been sitting on a park bench for more than 20 minutes - or whatever the stupid rules were. Boris and his pals turned the country into a police state so I've no sympathy at all for the mess he now finds himself in
Well, he could go of his own accord now if he wanted to do so, even without anyone putting a hand on his shoulder. His choice.
Well yes, but not really. It’s an awful way to govern, to have terrible standards and then, when pressed on that deficiency shout what about Jimmy Savile as if that’s some kind of answer. From the Iraq War, through the expenses scandal onwards, people have been desperate for politics to clean up its act, yet each iteration just gets worse. So, like WFC coaches, PMs are expendable and we may as well enjoy the farce.
You do realise that when De Pfeffel goes, 'it' all goes: the entire cabinet, De Pfeffel's ability to fund all of the alleged super-injunctions, the levelling-up cobblers, the 'only' 150K covid deaths, the funny money, the media enablers, the Brexit omnishambles, the economic cobblers... That's without the Nacht der langen Messer as the Tories do what they do best: farking each other over.
I think Johnson has a vision of the future in which Vlad decides to invade the Ukraine in the coming weeks, kicking off a major European conflict, which leads to Johnson, rising Churchillesque, to become leader (king?) of the free world and “Partygate” is a mere footnote in history. Jeez.....I have just thought of something, Johnson has ultimate control of our nuclear deterrent. If there are any grown-ups left, I hope they have provided him with a dummy button!
It looks as though the recent first visit of Liz Truss to Northern Ireland, as Foreign Secretary, has totally destabilised the province.
He'll never resign. He thinks he can weather the storm and see it out. It'll be up to his own lot to boot him out.
Another one out the door... https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/...m_campaign=breaking-news-ticker&itm_content=6
And another... And another... And another... https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/...e-dan-rosenfield-martin-reynolds-b980608.html
Totally. Johnson has been lying and throwing shyte around like the Savile accusation for years. While he was on the up the likes of Murza had no concerns about staying with him.
1084/12792*100~8.5 That 8.5% spoilt ballots...More spoilt ballots than the total votes cast for the 2nd and 3rd place candidates combined...
Sad, the number of far right nationalist candidates. There’s a cohort of people in this Country who won’t give it up.
Far right? Which ones were they? The Psychadelic party are clearly libertarian, and other candidates were also declaring libertarian ideals, around anti authoritarian issues regarding the vaccine etc.. Such parties may have been considered left leaning in the past, before the left ceased to be the people's wing, and instead sided with the establishment. The spoilt ballot papers appear to be anti Boris types in the absence of the main stream parties. It is a legitimate protest, but one exaggerated by the fact that people were, due to the main parties respecting the fact that the previous MP had been murdered, not presented with a serious alternative.
Interesting that all the media focus is on Munira Mirza while the really surprising resignation is De Pfeffel's practitioner of the dark arts Jack Doyle...
There are two obvious flaws with this spin. First and foremost, they resigned. Secondly, if they were pushed, why isn't Johnson waiting for the results of the Met inquiry like he promised? Only the most dedicated useful idiots can believe this bull now, surely?
The Darius Guppy phone call tape has been around for years and should have been enough to stop him standing for public office but the general public aren't interested in boring facts like this.
