C’mon, that’s unfair. At the coaching level it’s a conveyor belt of young talent.

It's a deal until the end of the season according to Leventhal, which is at least one right decision by Gino.

It might turn out to be a genius move from the club, I guess in our situation it could help to have someone who has been in this position before. Plus Lewington is a fantastic coach. Getting a guy out of retirement seems bizarre on the face of it though, especially as he had Palace playing terribly by the end of his time there.

The problem I see is that Palace would’ve undoubtedly had much better quality defenders than we do, Cahill was getting on a bit but nobody could argue he was head and shoulders above anything we’ve got now. His MO is keeping it tight and nicking a win, something we’ve shown to be completely incapable of doing.

Looking at his last 10 or so results in charge at Palace they were also pretty terrible, including a 0-3 home loss against Burnley in February. Great stuff.

He must really hate his wife

I like it though. Obviously mega short term but at the same point how many other multi lingual English options are there?

Quite a fiery character so you'd expect him to put a rocket under them.

Is this officially confirmed? All the media seems to state "in talks" at the moment. I really not sure what to think about all this, but Ray Lewington back in the dugout even as a #2? That is a big positive - one of my fave ex-coaches.

Roy spotted at the training ground, looking sprightly.

There were two other Italian managers considered, but they chose Hodgson.

Watford are working to appoint Roy Hodgson as new head coach in the coming hours. Final details to be discussed in the morning - Hodgson's waiting for his Premier League comeback. #WatfordFC Two Italian managers were also in the list but Pozzo wants to go for Hodgson

To me it’s just a re-run of 19/20. Ranieri was QSF, let’s get an old mate in to help us out, Hodgson is Pearson but just even more bizarre considering he’s retired. Just following the same old formulas.

I don't think people like Roy ever retire.
They're so immersed in their sport, they will die on the training pitch or stadium like poor Jock Stein.

Good luck to him, he'll need it.

Up the John Ruskin Croydon boys!

I had the same feeling as well..

We're in a very similar position to where we were after a similar number games in the Person season as well, albeit Pearson had already had 5 games with the squad up to this point and had already improved our form a lot.

"strong" is exaggerating. We're still going down, though will probably muster a few more points/the odd win than we would have got.

And that is the key point of the whole saga. Hodgson you could say is a better appointment than Ranieri. Based on recent record in the Premier League, knows the division, understands how to wring the most out of a squad. He has the stature and seniority that a young manager does not. Especially one new to English football.

But none of those reasons did not apply last Autumn. If the club think he can get a minimum of twenty points from the remaining games, they rationally must think he would have got more than a point a game from our last 14.

Why Hodgson wants to do it as another question. But my goodness where will they go after this appointment?

If he get Dennis back into form, get us defending better from the front to the back and make sure we take at least 50% of our chances in games we stay up simple as that. It's not the manager I worry for in a sense it's the players' initial reaction.

I can actually imagine them taking secret bets. "OK lads, how long with this clogger last?"

It’s actually pretty smart on the surface, could make a lot of arguments for it.

    But it’s just very uninspiring.

I think you can trace it back to the same thing, Gino’s arrogance and stubbornness. In his mind the squad was more than good enough and after 7 games we didn’t need another ‘smash glass in case of emergency scenario’. We could just appoint his mate and everything would be ok.

Good luck Woy you're going to need it with some of those heartless players we have. It will be good to see Lewington though, always liked the fella and was never really backed in the market.
Anyways how was setting up Palace before he left? Formation wise.

To have someone of Hodgson's experience in the building is a very good thing. I'd like to maybe even have him as an advisor/director of football, if/when he decides to call it a day from day-to-day management. A real football man and is of massive benefit to Watford in their hour of need.

It was only 2017 when he went to Palace, who were bottom with no points and no goals after 7 games and he turned them around. They finished 11th that season. He's still relevant. Did the same for Fulham, although that was a while ago.

I'm going to call it now......we're staying up. Why not :D
