I thought that at first.. until i went and read up on the age spread of the vaccinated. If you look at the age categories that footballers would fall into, then i would say as a group they are similar to the rest of the population. Not enough of those age groups are vaccinated for my liking but footballers just seem to be average in that regard.

I've literally never read one of 'Troy's' columns before, and for the player who's supposed to stand apart from the others as he boldly tells it like it is and speaks openly in a way no other 'media-trained' footballer will, it's laughable how clearly it reads that he is barely responsible for a word in it.

I trained as a journalist, so I am very far from surprised that a footballer isn't actually writing the words ascribed to them, but you'd surely expect the journo they've assigned to that task to be making an attempt to ape his tone/style to some degree, at least?

It's hard to believe Troy was sedated, intubated and put on a ventilator in the ICU during a brief 4 day stay in hospital. More likely it was an oxygen mask or PAP. I agree with what Troy is saying on vaccines. So annoying to know I agree with the big man on issues of race AND vaccines.

Surely the virus is just as likely to mutate in a vaccinated person to evade the vaccine as it is in an unvaccinated person and arguably more likely.

In my view it's much more urgent to provide all HIV+ people in the world with anti-retrovirals as untreated HIV could lead to major mutations in HIV+ covid patients.

There's a potential risk that in the future the virus will evade vaccines by mutating to attach itself to human cells in a different way and the most likely source of that mutation would be an immuno compromised person.

Yes but a vaccinated person is far less likey to contract and pass on and also shifts the virus in a few days, an unvaccinated one suffers for longer, even without symptoms.

I would also suggest that the issues you raise about immuno compromised people are equally important. Focus on both should not me mutually exclusive or detrimental.

That’s interesting and I take the point. However the same dashboard currently states that 89.4% of those over 12 across the UK have had at least a first vaccine. This graph for England only has the 70+ age group at that level. I find it hard to believe that the rates in Scotland, Wales and NI, with their relatively small populations, bring the overall level up to 89.4%.

    I see what you mean.

You'd think someone who had been in ICU and so ill as claimed would really be making the point that everyone should take the vaccine or listen to the guidelines but he seems to be giving excuses as why footballers don't want to.

Kind of sitting on the fence and giving the view from both sides - trying not to upset his mates who haven't had the vaccine.

I remember Troy did give support to Grelish when he had that crash at the start of the COVID lockdown.

Dunno.. but is it maybe a reflection of the percentage of people in that age range? and the fluctuations in that particular age range? This..
    https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19...r-find-out-how-many-have-had-the-jab-12179220
suggests that 100% of the 75 to 79 years olds have had both doses (hard to believe)
I have also read from other sources that the number of people that have taken the first dose is nearer to 75% Who knows.. and i dont mean the World Health Organisation!

btw.. i had been wondering if the ethnicity of footballers had any reflection on the numbers taking up the vaccine. Apparently around 25% of pro footballers are black.. but just 3% of the UK population is. The vaccine uptake in the black community is said to be around 75%.. and 95% in the white community. This should give us a far higher vaccine hesitancy among footballers.
PS I was relieved to see that Troy had been thinking the same way!

Before vaccines or lock down I ran around and got a pneumonia jab from Boots (my gp had none) and that gave me a lot more confidence at the time and now.

Footballers clearly ARE having more heart problems than normal, we are seeing it with our own eyes. Even this one sided article/propaganda hedges its bets with its conclusion 'there is currently no evidence...' If you think a Reuters article with quotes from a bunch of quacks who are all making the same claim is evidence, good luck to you mate!

Why are we linking current players heart issues with the vaccine? Plenty of players had cardiac issues before Covid-19 was even a thing.

Ok. So if you don’t accept Reuters, or the experts it has sourced for its fact checking articles, may I ask what evidence you are basing your claims on? I would be interested to read it.

There’s a few members of this forum who should be ashamed at their comments about Deeney at the time he didn’t want to return to the club without protection now knowing that he had needed oxygen support to breathe.

Especially the one who called him thick amongst other things.

One theory i read was that we are seeing sportsmen suffering medical problems because they have previously had Covid and the long term effects it has. Makes just as much sense as the vaccine causing if you ask me.

You are assuming Troy isn't exaggerating or lying. At Watford Troy was constantly trying to justify himself, big himself up and manipulate other people's perception of him. The things he said about his attack on a prostrate injured man prove that beyond any doubt. It's extremely unusual for someone to be admitted to hospital, put in the ICU, intubated, put on a ventilator and then discharged all within 4 days. It doesn't really add up. Maybe our crack investigative journalist AL can check out the facts LoL.

Yes, that's a very good point and one that it would be both reckless and foolish to dismiss out of hand just like with the potential vaccine link. It's been stated that Aguero previously had covid. Equally, I havent seen any proof he wasn't vaccinated. His cardiologist has claimed his heart issue isn't connected to the vaccine but he might have been the person who advised Aguero to take the vaccine and is just covering his back. I'm not saying vaccines are causing footballers to have heart problems. I'm saying it MIGHT be the case. I haven't seen any evidence that proves the vaccine isn't behind the increase in heart problems we are seeing in footballers.

Yeah, back in February 50% of patients hospitalised with severe illness through covid showed signs of heart damage, for a start:

Just got to hope there's enough research being done on it as its an extremely scary proposition if either thing is causing it.

Few footballers have had severe illness. But yes, it could be that the combination of covid weakening the heart to some extent and excessive exercise is causing these incidents.

Ive seen people posting long lists on social of sports people who were supposedly healthy and had encountered troubles playing sport. Most of them were not known athletes... and a few of them were. But without knowing their medical history it doesnt really tell us anything. Had they preciously contracted Covid? If they had how seriously? Did they have other underlying medical issues whether known or unknown? Were they even vaccinated?

I guess they would always check for unknown health issues in young people that pass away unexpectedly. But do they always do that for non fatalities? Perhaps they should in the current climate.

This 20-year study, that had nothing to do with covid and was published in 2018, found that the incidence of heart defects in football players was higher than generally perceived, and the majority of sudden cardiac deaths that did occur were due to cardiomyopathies that had not been detected on screening:

It seems the inflammation story emanated from from an abstract (not a full paper) published by the American Heart Association that was heavily picked-up by antivaxxers ('Abstract 10712'). This made the claim that mRNA vaccines caused increased inflammation of the endothelium and increased T-cell penetration of cardiac muscle, which 'may account for the....... increased thrombosis and cardiomyopathy and other vascular events following vaccination.'
Subsequently, this abstract was quite heavily criticised for being non-peer-reviewed, poorly written and failing to fully provide process. The American Heart Association itself subsequently put out an "Expression of Concern": Quote:

Soon after publication of the above abstract in Circulation, it was brought to the American Heart Association Committee on Scientific Sessions Program’s attention that there are potential errors in the abstract.

Specifically, there are several typographical errors, there is no data in the abstract regarding myocardial T-cell infiltration, there are no statistical analyses for significance provided, and the author is not clear that only anecdotal data was used.

We are publishing this Expression of Concern until a suitable correction is published to indicate that the abstract in its current version may not be reliable.

    Unquote.

My feeling is that the AHA were very irresponsible for publishing the original abstract in such a careless way.
It strikes me that neither position leaves the layman in a comfortable state of understanding.

"Abstract" (what strange terminology!*): here's the original:

    https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/circ.144.suppl_1.10712

If any 'lay' reader could get past the third line (not sentence) of that I would be surprised...

FYI it was something 'like' (a short letter/communication) this that 'caused' the MMR = autism 'debate'.

EDIT: *Abstract for a poster at a conference/meeting.

EDIT2: Dr Gundry appears to be a bit of a snake-oil salesman:

    https://drgundry.com/

    https://gundrymd.com/

EDIT3: His focus on the gut has a remarkable similarity to the MMR = Autsim 'work' as ISTR that focussed on analysis of residue in the same organ (any clinician want to step in?).

I mean, the real cause of that 'debate' was a concerted and purposeful fraudulent effort by Andrew Wakefield to discredit the joint Measles, Mumps and Rubella single vaccine delivery in order to profit from patents on individual vaccines for each of those viruses that he, himself, had taken out.
