He's a slightly better Scott Loach, he will go and warm someone else's bench. Never Premier League standard.
I think the likeliest scenario is that an upper tier club with an injured GK comes in for Foster during the next window and Bachmann is no 1 again - until the summer when all bets are off. If he gest half a PL season as #1 and still loses the jib, then it is what it is.
I want to like Bachmann but it’s always been apparent to me he’s just not good enough, I didn’t even feel completely comfortable with him in the championship. He oozes nerves and indecision every time he plays.
Exactly this. It was obvious on his debut, flapping around against ******* Tranmere that he was never going to be good enough. Frankly, his ascent to being a starter was down to circumstance, rather than his earning of the spot. He’s competent, but nothing more and nowhere near being the sort of keeper we need at this level. He should have been sold in the summer when his stock was high.
We're judging him on a one off game playing with actual children rather than the run of games where he commanded a defence to a Championship clean sheet record and looked solid doing so?
Bit of an exaggeration to say he commanded our defense. He may have orchestrated some defending, from the goal line to which he is almost permanently stuck. He’s certainly not been commanding.
I think Bachmann just looked better than he actually is because we were on the crest of a promotion wave last season when he got into the team as a result of Bens injury. He then got carried along with that promotion wave by what was an excellent defence at the time, and as a result of that promotion run he kept his place in the team ahead of Ben. However, it soon became apparent this season that he was not as good as he had looked during that promotion wave and is just not up to the job of being a Premier League goal keeper. He may not be perfect but Big Ben has rightfully got his No1 slot back because he is the best keeper we have at the club at present and he also has vast experience of the Premier League. We will probably look to have a new No1 for next season and hopefully this new guy we have signed will be up to that job. However if he is not up to it and if push came to shove I personally think that Ben would not let us down if we still had to rely on him again, plus he would be a great mentor for the new guy as well.
Maybe it was due to the lack of crowds but thought he was loud and commanding personally, organising the defence. Just don't think it's possible to get the run of defensive performances and clean sheets with a clown in goal.
I’d agree that he was loud, but I’m not sure that equates to commanding. When I think of a commanding keeper, I’m seeing somebody dominating his box, and for me, that’s not Bachmann. He’s certainly not a clown, but I don’t think he’s good enough to be a long-term option between the sticks. Keeper is a real area of weakness for us this year, as neither of our options have provided the solid base we need.
He wouldn't start for any other premier league club. Although, he is a good choice in the Championship. Interestingly sources identify that Okoley's most prominent attribute is coming for crosses.
No, I don't think we should be putting all our eggs in our basket long-term with Bachmann, and I'm glad we've identified the issue with a young promising signing. Still think he's good enough to have a decent enough career at the top level, considering his record whenever he's played for us (and Killie) is impressive. Plus the fact he's still relatively young and he's a few years behind on his development as he foolishly chose to be a 3rd choice keeper for a while.
He's rubbish. If you can't dominate your box, you're not a good keeper. Whether you're in the Premier league or Sunday league, the chit keepers are the ones terrified to come off their line. Anyone who's ever played football knows what a nightmare it is to have a keeper like this. It's baffling to me that a keeper at this level has this problem, but it's undeniable.
Indeed it is undeniable. Great shot stopper but so was Richard Lee. A keeper has got to dominate his box and give confidence to his back 4. Bachmann sucks confidence from the back 4 and we ain't seen nothin' yet to suggest that will ever change.
There is a sizeable possibility that West Brom will be a league above us next season. This could have been a possibility at the start of the season. But, I would imagine the fee would have been significant even with Baachman included.
Johnstone is out of contract in the summer. I doubt West Brom would sell in January, it sounds like they're willing to risk losing him for free.
If people think Bachmann doesn’t command his box - that’s one thing Sam Johnstone doesn’t do either. Bachmann comes off his line 1.4 times per 90, Johnstone 1.14
Keepers don’t have to dominate their box, they have to make the right decisions in key parts of the game. Ederson and De Gea are glued to their line - so is Fabianski, Jose Sa and Kasper Schmeichel. Difference between them keepers (not including De Gea), is they aren’t hesitant in what they do, Bachmann and Foster are unsure of themselves at times
Used to be pretty scary seeing Peter Schmeichel charging out. He was a fantastic keeper in his day. Does anyone remember Kevin Pressman from Sheffield Weds? Not the most agile, but he was a big guy to beat.
Dropped by Austria now. Meaningless game tonight so they could just be giving one of the other keepers a game. Dan will be wanting to play with the World Cup next year, I don't think it'll be at Watford though.
At least Bachmann is at an age where he’s interested in ironing out faults in his game. Could the same be said of Foster?
With the new guy coming in and expecting to be number one he’ll be gone next summer unless Dahlberg is going out on loan again .
I doubt it — I think Foster will be #1 for the rest of the season (wrongly in my opinion) but it’s a problematic area for sure. The data doesn’t reflect well on either keeper, but like you say; with Bachmann there’s a chance to improve
Drawn away to Rob Page's Wales in the World Cup play-off semi-final with the winners at home to Scotland or Ukraine. Whether Bachmann plays in any of those games is anyone's guess at this rate
'I'll show you lot I'm not rooted to my line. Oh look, here's Vardy running out of space on his left foot. Chaaaaaaarrrge!'
The more worrying thing is very visible lack of trust between him and his defenders. There were plenty of signs of it before he was dropped for Norwich and it front and centre again today within minutes of the kick off.
Bachman's decision making is f**king amateur. Need a loan keeper in for January to replace bell-end Ben & desperate Dan.
