Have to say I think Livramento looks fantastic. Unfortunately he's yet another excellent English right back. Seriously what are they feeding them at Chelsea? Reece James is phenomenal and they can afford to let go of Livramento and Lamptey.
Can anyone explain to me why our players shake hands with each other at the end of the game, it seems they were happy to only lose by one goal! Man of the match Ross Jenkins for me!, didn’t put a foot wrong!
He did catch the ball a couple of times and while they were all pretty routine, if Cucho’s ironically applauded shot against Liverpool which was easily saved by Kelleher counted as one on target, then surely at least one of Foster’s saves should have counted? Maybe it’s because he was preventing goal-scoring opportunities rather than actual goals or one or more of them deflected off a Watford player?
Probably scramble a draw at some point so 1 for me. The problem is I can see a few thumpings with our dreadful defenders.
I’d extend that to Brentford and Burnley away too. So on a good day we might nick a point at Burnley or Brentford but that’s our lot. Southampton was our banker and we blew it. No more than 1 point from the next 7 games I’d say.
The lowlights on MOTD weren't pleasant viewing. Jug ears made a sarky comment about Ranieri having already lasted 2 matches which was a long time for Watford. Thought Fletcher was unlucky with his chance, nice turn and shot with a smart save from the keeper.
Yet I bet they spent a lot of the time debating Nuno future at Spurs.. he hasn’t been there long. Yes was a good effort although think Sema felt he should have left it for him! Fletcher should have been on earlier as an extra striker - basically we just had King as an attacker 2nd half on his own! Funny thing is we were outplayed 1st half but were a clearance via a thigh away from being 1-1. Might have changed things ..
Yes, even though we were utter Gash we almost scraped a crack papering point. At least Ranieri is under no illusions about the task in hand.
Yes, the defence does look shaky; and I have always been nervous when they apparently surrender the wing positions to the opposition. But "Lower Championship standard defence"? Last season, when they were in the Championship, they conceded fewer goals than any other side in the top 4 divisions. Maybe they are missing a player or two at the moment. Maybe this is an indicator that the gap between Prem and Championship is getting wider still. I think both are relevant factors. And I also think that newly promoted sides have to spend most of the first season (and probably more than that) hanging on and trying to finish above 3 teams. Like Crystal Palace and Brighton, for instance. Only after a while do they acquire a well-rounded Premiership squad (like Palace and Brighton, who are now top-half teams), and many don't achieve this and go straight back down. Southampton looked a much more 'well-rounded Premier team' today and Watford looked ragged and definitely relegation material. But, when you analyse it, we were very close to getting something out of this match. The difference was a deflected shot. This was a '6-pointer' and the next several fixtures are highly likely to yield no points. We will most likely be relegated, but it is not certain yet. We must hope that Ranieri organizes them better and ignites a fighting ethos, that we do not suffer too many injuries to first teamers and that the owner can do some good business in January. There is a long way to go.
Maybe it’s me but we have been mostly garbage for as long as I can remember. Even last season we weren’t exactly fantastic. Either we have quality players but the atmosphere is toxic or, like now, we are woefully ill equipped for a premiership season. tbh I find watching Watford, aside from 10 minutes last week, really really boring
Do you mean boring or disappointing? Imagine supporting Sheffield Wednesday, Rochdale or Gillingham where pretty much nothing happens. Maybe there is just too much football in general and it is too easy to view top-level football from anywhere in the World.
I work in a shop in the town. I resist looking at how we are getting on when working a Saturday which is almost every week. I see a glum face wearing a scarfe I know we lost. Actually feels worse than watching a loss. Worst was when Bournemouth stuffed us a couple of years ago and fans were in shop at half 4
When your day starts with a big old Watford sized shyte sandwich, it’s nice to finish the sporting day like this. https://twitter.com/UHCougarFB/status/1454639742960685057 I think we all need this thread going back off topic.
The way I look at it the next 5 games is an opportunity to focus training almost entirely on defence and set plays, not that we don’t already need it already. If we can improve enough not to have our pants pulled down by City as usual we have a run of 10 games that are winnable to varying degrees bar Spurs. One would hope, if going into this period better defensively, we should get more from these games than we are now or would have had we not had to play 5 games in a row parking the bus. Talking 18pts from those games takes us to a minimum of 28pts with 13 games left to pick up a further 12 if 40 is the target.
That one was on Ranieri imo It looked to me like 442, and we know that always leaves us short and over run in the centre of midfield We continually kicked it long in hope, and we know where that gets us When we finally have a 9 capable of playing in a 451/433/4231 it makes no sense to me If his plan is to plan 1990s football then we may as well have kept Deeney and QSF
Ranieri hoping Sierralta, Kabasele and NN do the trick I think! Like us all.... https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/watfordfc/watfordfcnews/
Yes, QSF did well last time and we could really do with Deeney’s goals. Ranieri isn’t called the Tinkerman for nothing is he, he is trying different things with our awful squad but it won’t always work. Unfortunately what he does get right will often get undermined by our tragic defence. He doesn’t know all the players yet but what he’s shown is the ability to form an opinion on them fairly quickly once he’s seen them play.
That’s highly optimistic. Hard to see past zero. The only positive is the opportunity to improve our play before the games where we can get something.
0 and a -10 hit to the goal difference if we're very lucky. I'm expecting 0 points and -20 goal difference effectively sealing our relegation.
Lol. So he's already figured out that Cathcart and WTE aren't up to it. Shame he wasn't around in the summer to tell Gino the same thing.
He went past him plenty of times and he was caught out of position on quite a few occasions. Ngakia may be young but he was a liability yesterday he was torn apart in the first half.
