Well he's not wrong! Unfortunately the Leeds fans might not be wrong either. Although he looks like he's in much better shape now.
Probably aside from his free kick the best performer on the pitch for us yesterday. Needs some more fitness but his level is starting to show. And unfortunately for others it's beyond theirs.
I haven't read close to all of the fifteen pages on this thread and the other one combined, so sorry if this has already been mentioned, but I completely forgot he played a few games for us when he was a teenager. His first start wasn't the best - an own goal in a 2-0 defeat at Norwich but I think we seemed pretty much safe already. Anyone remember anything else about his seven appearances?
It was a belter of an OG though. He was also guilty of one of the worst misses I've seen during that spell with us (don't recall which game). The ball was sent across the goal line to where Danny was standing. All he had to leave his foot where it was and the ball would've hit it & gone in. He lifted his foot up, the ball rolled underneath & away. Even at the time it was quite funny.
Found it: Yes, going by one of the few comments it does seem to be the Southampton game, when we drew 2-2 at the Vic (can't find that one though).
I don't want to be too harsh on him, he's been possibly our best player this season, and it was always going to be a tough game against Salah (let alone in an unfamiliar position!), but it was an absolute disasterclass
I don't blame Danny for any of that today, horribly exposed at centre back and was up against the best player in the league. Looked better at full back funnily enough.
Only thing I can blame him for is his inability to get into shape. It's been months now and he's still looking comically large for a PL footballer. Not many keep pace with Salah but doesn't help when you're carrying an extra 10KG. Despite all that, he's been decent so far.
Agree, a post match comment in The Guardian said he looked like a celebrity playing a Soccer Aid matched. Summed it up perfectly.
That's a good quote. I don't get it when professional footballers are overweight. How is it happening, considering the exercise they're getting through? Do they just eat total garbage?
He clearly isn't taking his football or the club seriously. I think he's been OK, but it's an complete joke that he's still so overweight. There is absolutely no excuse for it at this point. He doesn't look like he's lost anything since he signed, and on Saturday he looked like he'd put even more on, if anything. He might actually still be pretty good if he can get a grip and put the burgers and milkshakes down.
Don't understand some of the excuses offered to him here. Sorry but I can't forgive his pathetic effort with seconds to go. No, that wasn't Mo Salah who idly waltzed past ex-England international Danny's tackling effort to set up the 5th goal. It was 20 year old Neco Williams in his 13th game for Liverpool. Leaving aside the weight and fitness questions was that professional left back play in the circumstances? Hardly. The final nail in the "shocking afternoon" for our Danny.
That was what, the 91st minute? He'd had his pants pulled down all afternoon by Salah so I can forgive him a half-hearted attempt at a tackle when the game is basically over. And anyway the alternative is Masina who did the same thing and gave away a penalty when we were holding on against Villa!
****ing useless fat ****. All three goals (so far) he might as well not even be there. New left back required at 00:01 on 1st Jan.
If he puts in the same kind of performance vs Brentford then I would tell him to find a new club in January. Maybe even terminate his deal if necessary, he literally serves no purpose here. I'd much rather give Ngakia the minutes.
Sorry but Danny Rose is not the player he once was and will probably never get anywhere near the player he was ever again, in fact he is now a busted flush and needs to be replaced asap. Perhaps switch Kiko over to the left and play Ngakia on the right, as Kiko has done ok on the left in the past and Ngakia has always looked uncomfortable when he's played there.
I wrongly assumed that Danny would get himself into shape but if it hasn't happened by now under two head coaches then it isn't going to happen. It's really disappointing because I thought he'd be coming here motivated to play some football again and could solve our left back problem. He sounds like a good guy off the pitch but we're paying him to help us on the pitch, I don't see why we should be paying someone who can't be bothered to get into shape. Although the club did that for about five years with Troy...
He seriously shouldn't be given the chance to put in any kind of performance against Brentford, in my opinion - it's too important a game; it surely has to be some non-ideal combination of Ngakia and Femenia now.
I don’t want to be too harsh on him or Gino, because he’s our transfer policy in a nutshell and that transfer policy has also got us Dennis. It stands to reason that if you pretty much always sign players with a big question mark next to their name, some will pan out badly, or rather some will pan out as expected and that’s exactly what has happened with Rose. Welbeck was similar for different reasons, we were potentially signing a great player if he stayed fit, unfortunately that gamble didn’t really pay off. That’s the nature of Gino’s transfer policy, sometimes if it looks like a turd, and smells like a turd, it’s just a turd. Unfortunately every punt can’t end up not being a turd.
I still maintain Rose was a good signing at the time but he’s gone downhill under Ranieri for some reason. He can’t be in the side right now. He’s far too slow and easy to get past. Technically he’s excellent, but if he’s so unfit, it doesn’t really matter. Watford, under Ranieri, are high press and high energy. If you’re not up for that, it’s best you find another club. It’s a shame as I like Rose and I want him to work out, but I’m just not seeing enough from him.
It seems he's still good enough technically to get by against the lesser teams of this division, but against the better teams, he's toast. With Masina out long-term, it's a real worry, because I don't see him being fit enough to be able to get through all these games, and with the injury-prone Kiko being the most realistic LB alternative, we could be left with Morris playing for us soon enough...
I completely agree with this. Joined in July and looks less fit than he was back then. Incredibly slow, incredibly unfit and is basically taking the pi55 out of us. I would rather start Ngakia there against Brentford. Left back more of a priority than centre back in January currently
Ngakia did not look comfortable there at all either when coming on yesterday. If we had more CBs back fit then I'd actually rather shuffle Cathcart over to there for a few games, as even though he's also not very good he also hasn't entirely appeared a fish out of water on the few occasions when asked to play there recently.
Rose was as bad as Troost yesterday. Ngakia did OK, and should start against Brentford. Kabs has been on the bench recently - isn't it time he started?
