Pretty sure it is a loan because there wouldn't be enough time to process a permanent transfer at the 11th hour. The loan fee could well be large and akin to a transfer fee.

A loan deal with an option to buy even though his deal is up in a year - I don’t get it.

I assume it means an option to buy in January…but surely Fulham would just tell him they will sign him in the summer and give him a nice signing bonus then. Can’t see how we make any kind of fee beyond a small loan fee. He’s worth around £5m at least I’d say - Chelsea are paying €5m for Saul and PSG €4m for Nuno Mendes - so can’t see how we are getting anything like his worth at all.

If it transpires as such, essentially giving Chalobah a free is a poor poor deal.

As part of the loan will be an option to buy built in.

They done this with Quina and he will cost Fulham £5m after the loan if they go up.

It’s quite a clever way to get a fee for an out of contract player. Fulham will be locked in to the terms of the loan contract they have signed.

Will these guys get games at Fulham - particularly Quina?

I don't know their midfield but guess it's pretty strong and they have started well.

Can't say I've come away from the past 18 months with a particularly favourable impression of Natty Chals as a character, if I'm honest.

I'm sure he's devastated, but I have no choice other than to speak my truth.

What seems odd in this regard to me is that they already have Josh Onomah starting for them, who seems to my mind almost a carbon-copy of Chalobah in terms of the type of player he is. Maybe they are just that rich and spaff-hungry.

I don't think they are the same type of player but Harrison Reed is there too just coming back to fitness and he is quite a popular player too.

Maybe just looking for squad depth.

Permanent deal according to AL. Good, get some kind of fee and get him out of here.

Yeah, I feel the same. Even after we got promoted, he came across as having a massive chip on his shoulder because people had dared to criticise him and the team for their substandard performances pre-mid-season turnaround. Not to mention his lockdown shenanigans last year.

To be honest, I was more disappointed when Hughes left. Don't think Chalobah is PL standard, really. Been here 4 years, and has only shown a decent half season, and that was in the Championship.

Having said that, I sincerely hope that this loan has a massive fee attached, because if not that is some cret1nous negotiation on our end.

EDIT - Just seen its permanent. Thank goodness for that.

Two year deal with the option of a third. Something is seriously wrong at the club when Chalobah and Hughes are turning down five year deals to sign shorter deals elsewhere, even dropping a division in Chalobah's case! It can't all be down to the wage cut.

I completely agree. The criticism of that particular group of players was justified. The relegation wasn't bad luck, it was a lack of application.

And Watford clearly agree as they've got rid of the lot of them.

More than I was expecting. Not bad for a guy with one year left on his deal and who has only played well for 4 months of the last 4 years.

They more or less down tools in the first half a West Ham, in the relegation season, plus as other posters have mentioned numerous chances to claim more points than they ended up with.

Most if not all of the “ problems are away now “ we go with what we have now and look forward to it!

Some extremely nonsensical quotes here from Chalobah's entry interview with Fulham's media team:

Well he did work with Silva for a bit - about 6 weeks before getting injured.

Quite a lot of Fulham fans don't think he will start many games if all their midfielders are fit.

Yeah, but even more so it's about the suggestion that he 'always got a good vibe from him'; a statement both incredibly milquetoast, wishy-washy, and insipid, and also extremely difficult to believe given the whole Slither debacle.

Troy and Cleverley have said the same thing in fairness, as well as saying he’s the best coach they’ve worked under at Watford

Marco Silva is in the bottom 10 for win percentage throughout Watford history.

Keeping company with Colin Lee, Dave Bassett, Walter Mazzari and QSF 2.0.

That said, I think the watch-flashing snake will get Fulham promoted and we'll get a nice bonus from these sales. Just make sure Bournemouth stay down, eh.

Yes, but then again it's not a particularly stacked field.

Deeney's also subsequently named Shakespeare as the best coach he's worked under, and look how that turned out.

Gives some additional context to when Silva yanks him off at half-time.

Meh. Disappointed it ended like this, honestly. In those first couple of games after he signed, it looked like he was going to be one of the driving forces behind an excellent season. As it happened, everything fell apart, and so did his form here.

Despite some fleeting glimpses of the players we hoped he’d become, he wasn’t able to regularly produce the consistent performances required.

Superb during our run-in last season, where he seemed to revel in the captaincy, and he gets credit for that, but there’s a definite sense of what might have been around his career here.

I think there will be for his career in general, he was an absolute monster as a teenager and may well have gone on to become one of England's most accomplished midfielders if he'd lived up to that early promise. But in the end a combination of that injury and perhaps a loss of confidence and consistent starting opportunities has meant he's never going to fulfill that potential, and it's too late now to have the career he might have had.

Never the same since injury, yet for some reason our fans spent years thinking he was going to magically recover his bottle.

A player who's psyche was destroyed by injury. A mental midget.

He won't be missed by me. Also that singing with the fans at the end of last season was the most insincere thing I've ever seen. Of course our idiotic fans lapped it up and called for him to be made captain LOL.

I loved watching Chalobah when we had him on loan. Signing permanently seemed great but he had seemingly lost some of his youthful enthusiasm and wasn’t quite the same. Then since his knee injury he’s only ever performed in brief spells. When he’s good I think he’s very good, but it just doesn’t happen very often. The lockdown stupidity also didn’t help him internally. A shame it didn’t work out better but Fulham could be a good move for him.

Yep, that little rant he did on the footage when we clinched promotion and went out to see fans, plus the keyboard warrior comment I found very odd and as you say, like he has a chip on his shoulder.

I find it extremely odd when players have clearly read fan criticism and then respond to it. As a professional athlete it’s absolutely par for the course whether your performances are good or bad. As it was though, their criticism was actually deserved, but to actually take note of it and respond to it either way shows a real lack of mental fortitude to me.

Look at the grief the England players who missed penalties have got (I’m not talking about the racist stuff, but the chants about letting their country down etc). If you’re going to make it at the very top, you need to accept criticism from fans is inevitable but also see it as a complete irrelevance. It doesn’t matter if you’re Ronaldo or Messi, you’ll get criticism, but as a pro athlete, to let it bother you to the point you actually respond to it shows a real lack of mental strength, and the ability to ever make it at a very elite level, where you live and die by your mistakes in front of the world, not just a few Watford fans.

Chalobah leaving is probably my biggest disappointment of this window and I'm not too pleased about Quina either, The Snake has ****ed us again IMO

I saw Chalobah as our new club captain going forward and I had high hopes he was well on his way to being the player he looked like he was going to be when he first came to us a s a 17 year old loanee.

This whole saga reminds me of the Welbeck situation, both him and Chalobah were nursed back to what finally looked like full fitness then they both ****ed off and left us in the lurch :(

It’s all a bit disappointing. When he returned, the games he played before injury were immense. Against Bournemouth under Silva he was like the big kid set loose on the little ones. There was no doubt he was PL standard.

Since the injury it was a struggle. Hope he does well and I always enjoyed his positivity about the club.
