Good old Tottenham. Whacking Man City at the start of the season. Well now they've got to play us. Kane's back, Nuno's got them off to a flyer, Son's in great form and it's away. We don't stand a chance. Remember this? Similar situation at the start of the season. Both teams with the same number of points (9 after 3 games), Tottenham's best players in great form, off the back of a big win against a big club, and plucky Watford come from behind to make it 12 in 4. Well don't. Forget it. Try remembering this instead, from the lovely Walt season: Watford supposedly had an 'exciting' forward line with Success, Niang and (not so much) Okaka. We got tanked 4-0. Head to head: Games won: 8 Games drawn: 11 Games lost: 31 and in the prem: Games won: 1 Games drawn: 5 (robbed by VAR once) Games lost: 9 Dangerous players: Harry Kane If he doesn't run away to Dubai, then Harry Kane, like all 'world-class forwards' loves a good goal against the 'Orns. Heung-min Son Quick, clinical and generally dangerous. Cathcart is shaking. Pretty much everyone else 2 of Spurs' forwards added together are worth more than our entire squad! As are 5 of their defenders! And 3 of their midfield! Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 Watford Watford lineup desperate hope: Bachmann Kiko Sierralta Troost-Ekong Masina Kucka Tufan Etebo Sarr Dennis Cucho Watford lineup prediction: Bachmann Cathcart Kabasele Troost-Ekong Masina Kucka Cleverly Etebo Sarr Dennis Sema Opposition Forum: Spurs Community https://thefightingcock.co.uk/forum/
Need to be on our game 100%. No half-arsed Brighton performances otherwise it'll be a long season. If we put in a shift and lose, no disgrace.
Let’s hope we are only playing Spurs and not VAR too this time ! Think we might see King or Cucho start and got to be changes at the back . Hopefully Kucka is fit .
A bit premature given we have a game midweek, but I'll just add my brief thoughts. Not sure we can compare the current situation with the one in the 2016/17 season, even if the squads are similar in quality. During that 4-0 defeat we had a crap and injury-hit team that didn't want to play for Mazzarri, this was in the midst of a run of 19 points in 23 games and 4 points in 14 away games, including goalless defeats at relegation candidates Sunderland (who didn't win at home for almost a whole calendar year thereafter), Palace and Hull, and an average at best Stoke. Apart from that season, all our games against Spurs have been tightly contested, and in the last two fixtures at them we were leading until the last ten minutes. Hopefully we'll see the kind of response against them that we got at Norwich after Luton.
I predicted a win at Brighton, so I’ll predict a big loss of 9-0, given that Spurs are better than Man C*ty
Never forget that we would have beaten Spurs last time we played them in the league if Deeney hadn't missed a penalty...
Spurs really are not a good side. Take Kane and possibly Son away and they’re bang average. Spurs 0-2 Watford
No hope of a result in this game, but if Kucka is available, at least we'll be competitive. Without him the score could be a landslide. We got away with it at Brighton because they aren't too sharp going forward. No doubt this will be Kane's comeback game. He must be licking his lips having to duel with WTE, Kabs or Cathcart. Let's hope (if he plays) Tufan has a good debut. Nothing can be worse than Louza's. To come off at half time on your debut, when there is not one single midfielder on the bench to replace him with, takes some doing....so well done on Xisco for making that call. I actually enjoyed his FM approach to the second half at Brighton. Let's bring on another striker. We ended playing 3-2-5.....wonderful, but ultimately desperate stuff. With Kucka we looked like a good team, without him we look as weak as p1ss. That cannot be how we operate. So, at least we know what type of player we need to bring it all together. We need another "enforcer" in midfield.....and sign a f***ing CB.
I go out to work on Monday morning, Tuesday, I go off to honeymoon I'll be back again before it's time for sunny-down, I'll be finding a dodgy stream on a Sunday afternoon.
Very difficult game. Would take an improved performance in a narrow loss to give some building blocks for the crucial run after the international break were we must pick up a decent haul of points.
Have to have Kucka, Etebo and Tufan in midfield. Louza needs to be eased in somehow and learn to get to speed. Ligue Une is a differing speed and intensity. And get Cucho on from the start for Ken. If we can get service to the front three C-D-S we can hope to hurt them on the counter. Romero is a gem of a defender but still not hundred per cent and neither is Gio Lo Celso who is a fabulous player. The defence needs Sierralta back but the fullback berths are real causes of concern. Masina looked iffy, Rose still needs to shed weight. Kiko is AWOL and Ngakia is not trusted. You cannot have Cathcart at RB or try and force Sarr to play as a wingback or RB. Not to mention Sarr is double up on there is no outlet for him outside he is forced into the middle of the pitch. And there can be no excuse for not having the energy, aggression and bite that was so much in evidence against Villa but had disappeared into the ether for much of the match against Brighton.
Good first preview @GarbeliaHornet. To be fair we play with the guile and energy of the first half vs Villa we nick a point. No hiding from it, we were awful yesterday and Xisco got the side wrong and looked clueless in response. For me, King needs to start. Drop Sema for Cucho, Carthorse for Seraltria. Kiko for WTE. Kucka should be back which is promising. Play the kids midweek to avoid any unwanted injuries for Saturday. Don't care if we lose again as long as the commitment returns. Lard arse can be an impact sub. Spuds 2 Horns 0
Spurs and away. Don’t hold out much hope. Son always plays well against us. I think the Brighton result more about tactical astuteness from them, they’d done their homework against us.They stifled us and played their corner game well. It’s why they have stayed up the only hope is Spurs feel they don’t need to counter us at all tactically and our fast forwards play a blinder with no errors at the back
While we don't often pick up results at Tottenham, we generally keep it tight at least. Any points would be a bonus, but above all I want to see an improved performance against a team who are more than capable of battering most teams in the Prem
Is Kane's transfer to City definitely not happening? If he's still there hopefully Spurs fans will get on his back I fancy us for a draw or possibly even a win.
They seemed to cheer him on today apparently. Spurs have a European tie next week where they are 1-0 down so might have to field a strong team . Or face going out in typical Spurs manner .
If you look at the team they put out against Pacos de Ferreira, they absolutely without doubt intend to go out of the competition at the first possible opportunity. This is the final playoff round for the groups, too, in the ludicrously convoluted Europa Conference system, so they can manage to extricate themselves before the third gameweek of the season and be home resting instead of flying off to Bulgaria midweek for the next few months. No way whatsoever do they play a strong team in that match.
I dunno, if I were Tottenham, I'd want to win a trophy, it's not like they're doing anything in the league any time soon. Even if they don't want to win the tie, I don't think they'll want to be so explicit about it, they'll probably play at least some of their first-teamers!
Mmm, they won't be thinking about it like that though, they'll see this as a very pivotal year to maintain momentum as a club that is a challenger for Champions League qualification. Whether that's true or not is an entirely different matter, but I imagine they're casting a glance over the other side of North London and thinking how much they would like to avoid what's happened to them, if at all possible.
Sure, but the top 4 all look stronger than they did last season (Liverpool cannot possibly have such bad luck with injuries again), and Leicester aren't going away, it's very unlikely they get top 4 which is what I suppose is the target. 'The Game Is About Glory' as they like to say, is there much glory in trying and failing to come 4th?
Whether you believe that sentiment or not (The royal you, that is), the answer to that in the eyes/minds of upper echelon Prem clubs has been proven beyond any reasonable doubt countless times in the past few years/decades. They will go for the theoretical possibility of European qualification over a trophy every time. I'm honestly not sure exactly how much glory there is in winning a newly constituted third-tier European competition, either, to be totally honest. Certainly not in the minds of Spurs supporters.
After Villa I thought there may be hope for our away performances as the Xisco Kid may have learnt from last season. After the Brighton debacle I don’t think there is any hope away from the Vic, especially against the likes of Spurs. Lots of Sunday afternoon alcohol to deaden the pain of watching an inevitable bad defeat. Unless.... Over to you Xisco
Unless we sack the beaming buffoon then it's a 4 or 5 nil hammering I'm afraid. The man is hopelessly out of his depth.
