The Lookman thing will have very little to do with Sarr, and more to do with Success/Sema/Zinckernagel and Lookman’s ability to potentially play across AM positions.

The Armstrong thing I think is absolute media nonsense.

I'd be delighted to sign Lookman, as I think he's decent, but I really cannot see why we would if we're retaining Sarr. Lookman, Cucho, Dennis, Pedro, Sema, Baah, Hungbo. It's a lot of players supporting the left sided attack. Lookman will not be cheap, even on loan, so if he did come he would be a first choice starter taking the place of Cucho or Dennis. I just don't see the logic in that. For me, the only thing that would fit is if Sarr went and we switched Dennis or Cucho over to the right.

I agree, the Armstrong link is probably just click bait, however, it's being seriously reported from the Blackburn side of things, so it does have the appearance of being genuine.

Can’t see us selling Sarr. We might have sold him for £50m+ earlier in the window to bankroll our rebuild but it’s too late for that now and Liverpool almost certainly won’t pay the fee we’re looking for. I’d have given this report more weight a month ago.

But you could look at it another way - Cucho/Dennis could be used as central options if/when King flops. Joao Pedro is probably seen as a striker. Sema could be sold/loaned and I doubt Baah or Hungbo will be really seen as genuine options for any regular game time, or even bench places. I don't think the Lookman link is that strange really looking at our squad.

Again, that's way overloaded if we think of Dennis and Cucho as central options. That would be Dennis, Cucho, King, Deeney, Pedro and Fletcher. I would argue King, Cucho and Dennis are probably too strong to be considered backup options. Certainly 2 of the 3 (if not all 3) have to be regular starters.

Lookman plays more on the left. Armstrong is a striker that has occasionally also played on the left. Neither look like a Sarr replacement.

Anyway, weren't you just saying a minute ago that we should sell Sarr to sign a CB and CM? The two players you just mentioned aren't that.

Sarr is the only player we have capable of pretty much winning us a game on his own. We won't be able to sign any CBs or CMs capable of doing that, an extra 40mil or not. Lookman can't really do that so often either. Armstrong would also be a big risk if we sell Sarr and then expect him to be our only player able to provide a real spark in his first PL season.

I think Sarr has improved during his time with us and will be a major asset next season, the likes of which we'd currently struggle to sign from elsewhere.

Would Sarr even get a game at Liverpool?

That Salah guy is not going to get dropped in a hurry, he scores the occasional goal.

Where is the Lookman link? I thought I was up to date on the posts in the transfer section but haven’t seen that

Sympathetic to the owners wanting to cash in, but the market is so depressed right now it would probably be in both Sarr's and our interest to hang on unless someone's going to do Richarlison levels of overpayment.

Everton will make a good margin on what they paid, when they sell.

If he is even remotely interested in Liverpool, stick him in the reserves and let him rot for 3 years.

If we can get Lookman we should get him, irrespective of who else we have. He’s similar to Delefelou in that he’s got that bit of occasional magic which will give the opposition something to think about aside from Saar…. Assuming that story is rubbish of course.

Our first season up we brought god knows how many players in, then shipped a load out at the last minute. The question in a Covid depressed market is of course will that be as easy this time.

IF Liverpool or someone else came in with a bid of £50m+ I think we'd have to accept it!

Should do all we can to lure Harvey Elliott & Curtis Jones as part of a loan deal.

ONLY if they make a big bid for Sarr. If not prepared to stump up a minimum of £50m it's a dead deal.

There is no way in the world anybody could justify a £50m fee for Saar, he just hasn’t done anything of any real note to justify it. Not when you consider someone like Sancho cost Utd £73m.

Can’t see this being true. If it is, we might as well not bother playing Premier League football this season. No point reinvesting the £50mil either. Might as well save it for the championship to get promoted again.

  21. Sarr isn't a replacement for Grealish, they are obviously quite different players

However Buendía is, and they already signed him, probably as a replacement knowing Grealish would go

For that reason I'm calling this rubbish

    That’s my thinking as well.

They seem more interested in Bailey. That’s who I think they will sign. Sarr is just a name thrown in right now.

However if they don’t sign Bailey, can see them coming in for Sarr and playing him LW.

Once they get 100m for grealish then the price goes up for whoever they go for as everyone knows they have 100m to play with. Ie Hughes goes for 35m instead of 20m

Funny how the squad is awful and we’re definitely going down right up until someone might buy Sarr for £50m and suddenly to accept that would be to make a net loss of £50m vs that PL TV money we’d get if we kept him.

That’s my point. Take the money now if it’s being offered. We’d only get £20m next summer.

I’d 100% take £50m if offered, I can’t see it though, that would be crazy money for a player with half a semi decent PL season. If someone wants to pay it then great.

Not even a great profit on what we paid and small beer compared to the prize of staying in the Premiership.

The problem is that it would be very hard to replace him and we’d most likely fritter the money away.

Villa will have a lot of money to spend that will burning a whole in their pocket so wouldn’t be surprised to see them for Sarr and maybe Abraham’s.

I agree, but we’re in a different market now. £50m is probably the equivalent of at least £60m+ pre Covid so not a bad profit. The problem is if we turn £50m down and get relegated he’ll be our only saleable asset that could plug the financial gap, so we’ll be bent over a barrel and shafted because of our desperation and the fact he would’ve been relegated, again. Only way we get more than £50m is if we stay up and he absolutely rips the league up, a big and unlikely gamble.

Take the money and what? Buy four £8m players who a significant minority of supporters proclaim aren't good enough before they've even kicked a ball in a competitive game for the club and use the rest to service the external debt?

To supporters, surely the only thing that matters is the product on the pitch. If the network of companies behind Watford FC makes £10m, £20m £30m it's absolutely irrelevant.

I'd rather watch them have a stab at staying up with Sarr in the team than think: "Oh, I'm glad the business made a profit and at least Steve Kabba Mark 2 tries hard when he comes on." Sometimes I think as supporters we need to remind ourselves it's not our money and it makes absolutely no difference to us. What does make a difference to our experience is watching players who actually can make an impact in a difficult league.

It would give us financial security and a better chance of building back organically without being saddled with a ton of debt. Every player has their price for most clubs outside City, Chelsea and PSG.
