Just don't buy any sandwiches or other food handled by workers as the government has decreed that the risk of salmonella is now low enough for gloves and hygiene measures to be at the discretion of the individual, including post-bog hand washing.

Loads of kids were off 'ill' these last few days at my school. Families not wanting the virus impacting their summer holiday plans. Fair play to them!

I had a look yesterday and the two most central areas of Leicester had something like 20% and 15%. Absolutely ******* crackers. I’m not going into the city until i’ve had my second jab and I’ll be wearing a mask at the football.

It radiates out from the city centre to the boroughs on the edge of the county getting higher and higher to where I am, on the border with Notts and it’s about 85 & 70.

Does anyone live in central Leicester? Thought it was all grim cotton mills.

The vaccine take up among the pit ponies and the grubby faced orphans is clearly very low.

In fairness, the 8 weeks between jabs must be stretching the average life expectancy around there.

Don't forget that the age demographic for central city locations will skew the vaccination results to a certain degree although I agree that the figures look shocking. Central locations have a generally younger population, a higher percentage of people who may not have had the opportunity/time for a 2nd jab yet.

True and that may explain low numbers of 2nd jabs, but 1st jabs have been available to all over 18s for about 4 weeks now.

You close the bloody politics section only to have it spill over into the Covid 19 thread where it manifests as a argument about ******* contact lenses.

The App’s proved a bargain then. Billions of pounds spent to deliver empty shelves. Still no recalibration from the Government.

May as well really. Without any mandated rules to restrict the spread of the virus it’s clear we are all going to get it, though the vaccine may mean this is often mild.

So I would say that you may want to know if you’ve been in contact with it to protect your vulnerable friends and family, but you may as well presume it’s likely you will have.

I have a feeling this is just another bit of irresponsibility that the Government will simply ride out. Deaths up to, what 80 a day? Unless that rises much much higher it’ll be shrugged off as just old codgers and ‘the vulnerable’ like they had it coming.

More likely the papers will be praising Johnson’s genius as the third wave flattens out. A few died, sure, but what about the mental health of a lot of people I never cared about until they were useful to me in this argument?

Presumably you can get pinged every fortnight. Just find someone with the virus, keep your distance, but place your phones together and bingo!

Well that would be marvellous. November should be the time to tell.

But presumably we must be moving towards people getting Covid and the effects generally being mild enough not to prompt them to test for it or notice it especially. At that point it doesn’t matter how many unless for certain cohorts it’s leading to hospitalisations or a dose of the long Covids.

That’s the ‘let it run’ unknown and I doubt we’ll know the full effects for a while. Many people are still cautious and gatherings have only just started.

There were quite a few empty shelves in my local Waitrose today. The nosey ex journo in me couldn’t resist asking a member of staff whether it was due to Covid or Brexit and the answer was a mix of the two. Yes, the so-called pingdemic is having an effect but they are also now seeing the knock-on effects of a Brexit-inspired shortage of delivery drivers apparently.

Well it is a remarkable job the Government has done. I can’t remember any food shortages since the 1970s, indeed since then food has been in bountiful supply, but this Government has truly transformed the Country.

Pretty obvious that supermarket workers were going to get pinged alot but I think they knew that all along. What makes this whole thing worse is having absolutely zero trust in the Government and probably the weakest opposition in 20 years. Add to that having zero trust in the mainstream or alternative media as it is pretty obvious we are lied to about so many subjects all the time what do we do? Most social media is full of bots trying to steer views in one direction or another too. I refuse to have blind faith in science and we dont even know the true origin of this virus either. There is no God or if there is one they are a cvnt. All we are is 7 billion inbred space monkeys destroying the only home we have and trying to kill each other or make us destroy ourselves from within, the planet would be so much better off without the parasitic human race on it. I am just waiting for the inevitable breakdown of society, law and order will be first then just watch.

Stuff like that is less prone to disruption because it tends to rely on day drivers: they do a shift, transport stuff to another depot, then go home. Someone else drives the next leg, lather rinse repeat.

Long haul drivers who spend days or weeks at a time away from home, especially those who travel across borders, are a different matter. That's the shortage that's causing supply concerns.
