Duxbury’s interview a with those FTRE blokes is getting more laughable by the day. I’ve yet to see any discernible difference in our strategy compared to any other season, other than the overall quality just being worse than ever. And we still haven’t got rid of any of the dead wood.
But the attitude thing comes from fans and managers of his previous clubs . You can have loads of talent but doesn’t lead to much of your mindset is poor .
Seems entirely consistent with that interview. Buy Cheap young players with potential. Develop them and sell them on to the top tier. Some will be hits some won’t. We won’t be buying expensive proven stars.
And they have to all have the same dodgy agent. Duxbury left that bit out. If the FTRE brown-nosers, sorry…’podcasters’ could see their way to interviewing Mogi Bayat over some frites and moules, we’ll get a far bigger insight into our transfer plans.
Backup for Sarr? He's not a striker, he's a winger. Very quick but not the most gifted. There was a lot of talk about him a couple of years ago but Krepin Diatta was always considered the far better player and has since moved to Monaco. In fact, I recall that their former coach said "Dennis isn't a player I'd recommend and definitely won't play at the top level, whereas Diatta certainly will" or something to that effect in World Soccer magazine. Honestly wouldn't get your hopes up.
Apologies. Bayat is one of two intermediaries/agents (along with some Ukranian dude) involved with Dennis' new contract. Still, I don't think this should be viewed as Gino doing his mate a favour. We have longstanding interest in him. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...suitors-Club-Brugge-star-Emmanuel-Dennis.html Here is an opportunity to buy a clearly talented player at the bottom of the market. Who knows whether it will work out but this transfer appears more in the Niang/Deulofeu mould (buying a talented player whose valuation has plummeted) than the Oulare one (overpaying for a ***** player to butter up Bayat).
He seems to be a bit of both. Clearly versatile but has the most minutes as a CF. Diatta obviously more talented. More consistent too. But he's not available/affordable/willing to come.
People that know of him and seen him play seem to think it’s a really good signing, went a bit wrong this season as he fell out with the manager and he didn’t really want to go to Germany - was forced there essentially. But for around £3m it’s worth the gamble + fits what SD said regarding recruitment. We’re not going to sign these great players, we’re going down the analytics route of young players and bargains on contracts nowhere near as big
We've signed so many backup bench-warmer strikers, when we already have so much dead wood. Just sell Trondre Greeney and Isaac Failure, then get a FIRST CHOICE striker, and a left-winger. All we need to do. We have enough backup.
Niang had played over 60 games for AC Milan by the time we signed him. And Deulofeu had PL pedigree as well as a number of big clubs on his CV. This lad doesn’t have the same resumé whatsoever short of a couple of goals against Madrid. A talented player yes - but one with warning signs all over him. We have taken a punt and that’s fine - but let’s not dress it up as anything but that. And agent or not, there’s a clear link to Bayat from the player in the recent past so it’s a fairly safe assumption he’s been part of this given our shared history. I’m not saying he’s gonna be awful. Or the opposite. But let’s not make false equivalences with better players just because he’s potentially cheap.
Yeah I'm totally on board with the move. Much easier to see the logic here than with Fletcher in my view.
That confused me for a sec - I think the term 'prolific' should only really be used in a football context for goals, not "goal contributions". On just goals it's 1 per 231 minutes. Also decent, though many strikers have left Belgian clubs with better records and then flopped in a tougher league.
One thing to note - if the player has desires on playing for the national team, he will need to behave with his national Team captain in our squad…
I recognise the analogy isn't perfect. Niang/Deulofeu clearly more established when we brought them in. But here is an attacking player who due largely to off-pitch issues has seen his transfer value nose-dive in the last year and we've taken a punt on him. His price will probably enable us to go big on another attacking player - and his versatility means we'll be able to play the market and see if that player will be a LW or a CF.
Of course he is rubbish. He has been signed by us. If we signed Kane that would show a lack of ambition because of his Euro performance. What people don't realise is that WFC will never be successful until we are owned by some misogynist country that believes that Emma Saunders must be a prostitute because she doesn't stay at home and produce babies for some 50 year old bigot, or by some corrupt Russian who needs a football team to better enable money laundering and pay bribes to Putin. This guy may be a failure. He may be a success. I have no idea about the thinking behind his signing and neither does anyone else on this board but lets put him down before he has even turns up. That is the proper welcome he should expect from the fans.
If he kicked off when someone sat in his seat on the team bus, he is going to love it when a non-scoring, underperforming Deeney keeps him out of the team for months on end.
As other said, well worth a punt for £3m. Still need to shift some of the crap in our squad and ideally sign a striker good enough to get 8+ goals
Yes because a guy with a 1 in 4 record in the Belgian league is comparable to the best goalscorer and creator in England. You reference these despicable individuals and countries but choose to ignore that one of the individuals involved in this transfer (and who seems to also be heavily involved in directing Watford's transfer activity) has been the subject of numerous investigations by the Belgian Police in connection with money laundering, fraud, match fixing, conspiracy and other lovely offences...
Thanks Chumlax. That post was a culmination of a number of things. I feel better for it now. Sorry I had to use the board for my therapy. I still get frustrated with some of the negativity on here though.
You just know he is the only striker we're signing. Have our owners learnt nothing? Sent from my CLT-L09 using Tapatalk
